Music video by Thin Lizzy performing Do Anything You Want To. (C) 1977 Mercury Records Limited
This is the song for freedom of spirit, speech and life. The one and only Phil Lynott. He will never be forgotten. Never!!!
Harry Pfeffer I remember when I was about to go abroad alone for the first time long term and everybody kept telling me down. I was listening to this song, Think for your self by The Beatles, Can I play with madness by Iron Maiden, and If you want to sing out sing out by Cat Stevens.
Who?
Only the good die young, r.ip phil
Never to be forgotten
@@J1O2C3K4E5S thé same feeling in the south of France mon ami !
With Orwell on my side....
I love this video. Phil’s lyrics are just phenomenal. I wish he was still with us.
The lyrics are particularly clever in this aren't they? The way they roll together; despise, analyse, criticise, scandalise, apologise, be wise and investigate, insinuate, complicate, intimidate. He was a true wordsmith. A real anti- authority song that leaves you smiling every time. They just don't make music like this anymore.
I always think they look as if they were having fun when they made this video, the smiles look genuine. The man had a smile that was addictive. I often wish he'd never gotten into the H and drink, just couldn't give it up at the end. 😖
The entire Black Rose album is so fucking good. It has fighting spirit, virtuose licks, and brilliant melodies all the way thru. For me its in top 3 along with Fighting and Bad Reputation. What a band!
I totally agree Sir !!!!!!
totally agree. i've discovered thin lizzy somewhere about 1.5 years ago, while i was kinda depressed, but the music of this guys helped me in some way to keep my guitar playing. black rose album is a masterpiece!
These lyrics should be the anthem of todays youth.
Freedom of speech and expression. Don't lose it!
Philip's Anarchist statement.
What a brilliant larger than life figure Phil Lynott was.
This is where Phil's love of classic Irish verse comes into play, not many '70s hard rock bands come up with a set of lyrics like those!
For me Phil was always a poet.
Phil Lynnott and Bon Scott are The street poets of the 70s and really there's been nobody to take over since their early sad passing in the 80s.
Those rhymes are forced, it's silly. Not that it matters for this great song, it's meant to be.

RIP to Phil and Gary they will never be forgotten.
It's a shame we lost Phil, A fantastic musician and singer. Thin Lizzy were a great band.
What a fantastic song full of attitude, great lyrics and rhythmic drive. What a huge presence Phil Lynott was and what great guitar players he had - miss you Gary. Love the kettle drums or whatever they are. I don't think that Thin Lizzy ever get the credit that they deserve.
Rip dad my late dad's favourite band, rocking in heaven now.
May he rest in peace 🙏
Rip your late father, He had some taste in music then 😉
16, AND I LOVE THIS BAND!!! It might even have to top Queen for me ffs 😭 thanks to my dad for first showing me their performance of ‘whiskey in the jar.’ I’ve literally just been hooked onto their songs and history +looking at each individual past members history… AWESOMENESS!!
same man!
Also discovered Thin Lizzy at 16. Changed my outlook on music forever. What a journey.
My dad also loved Queen and Thin Lizzy. He introduced me to good music. I remember my dad pinching my Stiff Little Fingers and The Stranglers vinyl records out of my bedroom and putting them with his LPs. My mam would pinch them back off my dad and put them back with my reocords until the next time my dad decided to 'borrow' my records ❤😂 Great memories. I just lost my dad on December 14th 2023 but I'll always have these great bands to remember him by. RIP dad and Phil Linnet and Bon Scott another great talented musician, artist and singer sadly lost too soon.
Sometimes we just need a song like this to get our Mojo back! RIP Phil 🙏💖🌈
Thin Lizzy are magnificent - everything you could want from a band. Do what you want.
This is a really cool video, with Brian Downey "Playing" guitar in some scenes, whit Phil and Gary full of life and passion, this is Gold, Cheers from a big fan in Mexico!
Scott and Gary together, the best twin lead guitar couple. We will never forget Thin Lizzy and Phil. Greetings from Southern Italy!!!🇮🇹
@@ghoulcat6352 🖐🏻🖐🏻🖐🏻😁
Everyone praises the other guitarists of TL, but Scott is too overlooked and underrated!
I can remember owning Black Rose as a kid and playing it in my room, I had forgotten about it until recently when I rediscovered Thin Lizzy and I’ve never been more in love with rock n roll 🖤🇮🇪
Love the Tipani opening. But then it's soon overtaken by the superb harmony guitars, lyrics, vocals, melody and overall greatness. Phil truly was awesome. RIP legend
Phil and the boys from Thin Lizzy lead my brothers and me astray, over the hills and far away, they keep us out late in the summer and cold winter nights, they made us travel all over the lands in a beat-up old Ford van, traveling to gigs and to watch the very greatest rocking band that ever stood on stage and rip the place apart with their brilliant music, When we did not have enough money to get every one of in to those gigs, wee would tell lies and say were were delivering very special guitar strings to the band, it all ways works and now I ask God for forgiveness from the sins I told but I refuse to take any apologise from the Lizzy boys for leading us astray, we enjoyed every single moment and we would not have wanted it any other way, Thanks a Billion Phil and all the Lizzy boys, you did a great job
Лучшая группа для меня
its ok about the sins you told,,, phil and gary had a word with the big guy up there and all is forgiven.
@@inspectorcal Thank you for the important message, It a major relief, it has taken a heavy load off my shoulder.
@@АндрейСвердлин I full agree with you, the Best band for you and the very band for me
😍😎😍😎
It is from the album Black Rose: A Rock Legend, released in 1979. The album is not called Do anything you wanna do, that is the title of the song. And man, what a great song it is
absolute class...remember it as a kid, nothing better to this day, word's are so true.
brilliant inspirational lyrics to a fantastic song. phil lynott - musician and gaelic poet.
AND REAL TONGUE IN CHEEEECK....
I saw thin Lizzy , in Stafford ,UK in 1980 .The venue ,bingley hall ,was 'PACKED ' One 'hell' of a brilliant concert.
Had a wonderful Alan Partridge moment listening to Radio Devon a few years back, DJ went 'that was Thin Lizzy with Do Anything You Want To. Do you agree with that? email in or call us on...'
Don't let these people compromise you, be wise to
Phil & the boys having a blast in this video. Too cool for skool.
Scott is an awesome accomplished musician in his own right...just think of the guitarists he got to play with!!!
What a great fun video! Gary nicking beats from Scott and Brian; Phil dragging out Brian in front of the class (Brian's laughing his bollocks off); Scott wearing shades and looking cool on the phone; Brian playing guitar! Scott planting a head butt on Phil, haha; Phil the most bad ass convict ever! All to a killer track!
Superb. Couldn't agree more.
Yeah, simple yet effective layout. Reminds me of Lyndsey buckinghams legendary Trouble video
This is such an uplifting and motivating song, I like to hear ir whenever I'm feeling sad❤️
Great song from a great album!
Let's wish health, well-being and long life to the great Scott Gorham and Brian Dawney!
Best Rock band ever
It's not wrong what I say, it's true, another great song from Thin Lizzy!
Remember seeing them around 1980......still one of my favourite concerts
This randomly came on the radio today while I was at work and the lyrics really hit me.
I've been in a rut for so long, feeling worthless, full of guilt and shame, a coward, untapped potential.
Just being a dreamer who drifts through this life with not much to show for it.
But for these three minutes today Phil helped me to feel pretty damn good.
It felt like he sang only for me.
Phil Lynott - Surely one of the best to ever write songs right?
Absolutely.
RIGHT!!
What a joyous video! Thin Lizzy and Phil was really something..!*
Even a guy from jail is giving you advice hahaha!!
saw Lizzy play this live black rose tour at the Glasgow Apollo awesome RiP Phil and Gary Lizzy rock's
Doesn't get played on the radio as much as it should, make it something important in your music mind ! XXX
The most legendary Rock band who are responsible for bringing revolution into the world of Heavy metal and Hard Rock
And it's sad that they are so underrated even today they are criminally underrated inspite of being talented and iconic
Rock & Roll Hall of Fame have not inducted them yet it's a total shame to the world dog rock & roll
One of my fav thin lizzy songs...class
Phil lynott is the coolest man to have graced this planet.
Nice to see a video for this very catchy track, I had never seen Thin Lizzy clips in the late 70's/early 80's, I think. But this can't date back to 1977... the album Black Rose was released in 1979.... Black Rose is probably my favourite Lizzy album, after Renegade (yes, the one that didn't fare too well).
Yes in your heart you can do what you want xx
hello, how are you doing it is nice meeting you here.

There's something wrong with u if u don't let your children listen to whatever they want
@@mullusk5 just on the contrary, they have to listen waht you want..because You can do anything you want to do dude!
It's a solid message, in the "you can do anything you set your mind to" sense.

Great writing... As for playing second to none... CLASSIC
Never gets old.
that bassline with the tympani always makes me think of sharks swimming for some reason
IF THAT DOES IT FOR YOU..NO PROBLEM..
Yeah it does. Cheers.
Reminds me of ELP cover of Fanfarre for the common man
First time I've heard the references to Elvis here. It helped they showed his image.
Phil was a massive Elvis fan.
Damn, fun times on this shoot
One Of my favorites !
IRON MAIDEN : Running Free + Boys Are Back In Town

Do Anything You Want To
Thin Lizzy
There are people that will investigate you
They'll insinuate, intimidate and complicate you
Don't ever wait or hesitate to state the fate that awaits those who
Try to shake or take you
Don't let them break you
You can do anything you want to do
It's not wrong what I sing it's true
You can do anything you want to do
Do what you want to
People that despise you will analyze then criticize you
They'll scandalize and tell lies until they realize
You are someone they should have apologized to
Don't let these people compromise you
Be wise too
You can do anything you want to do
It's not wrong what I sing it's true
You can do anything you want to do
Do what you want to
Hey you you're not their puppet on a string
You can do everything…
How apt during covid lockdown....
Yes!
Class pure and simple
I was 15 when i first heard this song in 1979 it planted a seed in my head and set me free. I was in a miserable place in my life in an even more miserable children's home in Derry. 45 years am still here the assholes who tried to destroy me failed big time. Just remember folks like our dear Phil Lynott said
"There are people that will investigate you They'll insinuate, intimidate and complicate you Don't ever wait or hesitate to state the fate that awaits those who Try to shake or take you Don't let them break you You can do anything you want to do It's not wrong what I sing it's true You can do anything that you want to do Do what you want to
