@@小牛-o5f i wouldn't say that's the same thing. yeah people who used very early versions of DOS likely know a lot of commands that I wouldn't know how to use at all but i think part of what makes things so difficult is progress. The internet has also changed a lot over the years, like if the internet stopped working in 80's instead of checking a router you'd probably ask anyone around the house if they are on the phone since phonecalls during the time shared lines on dial-up (I can't say i exactly know how it works but typically without special tools you could either use the internet or call, but not both at the same time) and obviously as time changes the version of "check the router" changed as well. It went from getting mad at people to being on phones to making sure there's nothing wrong with a box that gives a connection and the router issue might have been something that existed in that time as well, but i at least find the phone issue to be at least a little more relatable then DOS or other older computers. Like my grandma can use a computer pretty well but tools that didn't exist before still confuse her, there's been a time or two where she's accidently turned on "airplane mode" and couldn't get the internet back on for her computer, and she still has a hard time figuring out how a hotspot works.

Code isnt something that you remember, you know how to do it and then you need to put it into instructions, however you wont instantly remember the instructions. Heck you cant even write code to connect to a server that fast. So it is indeed impossible to do that almost instantly

It’s definitely possible to hack into an iPhone, but the exploits one would need for that could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Apple also takes their security very seriously, and if they find an active exploit (they always do), it’s usually patched within days.
@@dalanding3391 it's possible to "hack" due to human error. Meaning, if your phone is not secure enough with a simple 4 numbers password, then it's obviously easy as fuck. But what he means is that it's not possible to specifically crush iOS or especially hack into it remotely. It could've been possible if there was a team of the best minds working on it, and Apple stopped releasing any updates at all. In this case, with time, it's definitely possible. But in our current reality, it's very very far from being anything realistic.

It's the same for any field or topic Hollywood / movie companies try to portray. coming from a filmmajor i can promise you that the research effort financially is not worth pleasing that 1% of people that might understand whats fake or not. film is all about money and you save it where you can. like hell anyone will sit down and try to write a real code for a movie :D so yea. no hacking scenes are real. just a portrayal of where the focus of the director is (be it visual, technical, acting, or , in the case of a good hacking scene, detail)

If I ever end up helping with a movie that contains hackers, I am going to make sure it has realistic elements (1 monitor opened up to stackoverflow, at least 9 errors in the terminal, et cetera, etc)

WIthout a device connected to that specific network, and not the external one ( the normal net everyone uses to surf the internet) you will never be able to acces to it. SO in short, you need a device connected to an ext. network that is also connected to the internal one. And i can tell you that will never happen.

Just want to give some info: They mentioned that they work as "white hackers". White hats are people who attack IT security systems to find flaws in it so it can be fixed. It's good money and high in demand. Black hats are people who attack IT security systems towards criminal ends. They end up blackmailing for stolen data or flat out sell it off to the highest bidders. So yeah what you think they did, they do for a living :)

But later on in the movie MR robot they also plant a femtocell in the FBI office to get them fully access to all the data that femtocell captures and send that data back So in the end they had the internet connection from inside and that hack actually made sense it's just that the hackers who were reacting didn't know what happened later on in the Mr robot series

The Mr Robot one is why context matters, he's building a rootkit for an insider to put in the FBI's network, and is very very accurate. The producers of the show spent a lot time at defcon and similar talking to people about this stuff. The correct rating is A+++.

I would personally use a .bat file to get it to work (I'm lazy), but you could just execute the command itself within powershell (or cmd with admin privileges) for a greater wow factor.

I don't think there's a programming problem you can't find on the internet. Just dig deeper. Ask questions on forums and you can't depend on ur prof on this line of work. Start putting what you've learned into use otherwise you'll just forget it in time. Programming is useless unless you create something with it. Example: after skimming through some programming concepts in java, I instantly began to create games with it and that's where I truly started to understand the concepts.
The Mr. Robot scene is more realistic in the context of the episode, since they did have someone physically connect the FBI to their network or something
@@Alyssa_aria It's simple! I'm a Linux user and all these stuff are really familiar to me, while I can't hack, I do know how to use command line interface. So basically in one scene the "hacker" was using Ubuntu and just downloading a package.... That was hilarious, like for hacking you should use something like ParrotSec or Kali linux, and in other commands he's just editing a file and stuff.

Code isnt something that you remember, you know how to do it and then you need to put it into instructions, however you wont instantly remember the instructions. Heck you cant even write code to connect to a server that fast. So it is indeed impossible to do that almost instantly

It’s definitely possible to hack into an iPhone, but the exploits one would need for that could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Apple also takes their security very seriously, and if they find an active exploit (they always do), it’s usually patched within days.

@@dalanding3391 it's possible to "hack" due to human error. Meaning, if your phone is not secure enough with a simple 4 numbers password, then it's obviously easy as fuck. But what he means is that it's not possible to specifically crush iOS or especially hack into it remotely. It could've been possible if there was a team of the best minds working on it, and Apple stopped releasing any updates at all. In this case, with time, it's definitely possible. But in our current reality, it's very very far from being anything realistic.

WIthout a device connected to that specific network, and not the external one ( the normal net everyone uses to surf the internet) you will never be able to acces to it.
SO in short, you need a device connected to an ext. network that is also connected to the internal one. And i can tell you that will never happen.

They mentioned that they work as "white hackers". White hats are people who attack IT security systems to find flaws in it so it can be fixed. It's good money and high in demand. Black hats are people who attack IT security systems towards criminal ends. They end up blackmailing for stolen data or flat out sell it off to the highest bidders.
So yeah what you think they did, they do for a living :)

I don't think there's a programming problem you can't find on the internet. Just dig deeper. Ask questions on forums and you can't depend on ur prof on this line of work. Start putting what you've learned into use otherwise you'll just forget it in time. Programming is useless unless you create something with it. Example: after skimming through some programming concepts in java, I instantly began to create games with it and that's where I truly started to understand the concepts.

@@Alyssa_aria It's simple! I'm a Linux user and all these stuff are really familiar to me, while I can't hack, I do know how to use command line interface. So basically in one scene the "hacker" was using Ubuntu and just downloading a package.... That was hilarious, like for hacking you should use something like ParrotSec or Kali linux, and in other commands he's just editing a file and stuff.
@@ibrasome4492 Uh you can use different distributions of linux for hacking it really doesn't matter. Kali just has pre installed tools for you to just start penetration testing with.

I don;t remember commenting that, however I do admit it was pretty stupid. Anyway I only intended to give them as examples, since vanilla ubuntu does not offer much for hacking, without installing the required packages, which were not shown.

For me Mr. Robot still is the most realistic show about hacker/pentester - even if some parts may be fictive, the show is a masterpiece
The hacking parts of the show don't matter at all imo. It's a really impressive character study and social commentary with its exploration of the ideas of identity, escapism, trauma, rebelling against society, class warfare and acceptance
