- Officer's Choice western TV series episode pilot hosted by Randolph Scott and starring Scott Brady and Paul Kelly. This is the pilot episode of a suggested TV western anthology series titled Randolph Scott Theatre of the West. This pilot produced by Harry Joe Brown very likely was filmed in 1955 or early 1956 because the young Mimi Gibson is about the right age for 1955 and Paul Kelly passed away in late 1956. This is episode 18 of The Forsaken Westerns, an original TV series produced by Westerns On The Web Productions. In this episode Cliff McLean is the no nonsense Sheriff of the town of Lost Eagle in the year 1890. U.S. Ranger Will Yount comes to town to incorporate the help of McLean in locating an outlaw named Arlo Brandt. What a shame this series was not picked up by a network. There is a great cast and a good story but Randy Scott could not be in two places at once and his movie career was set to skyrocket again, with the release of the 1956 western film "7 Men from Now". Westerns On The Web did release this film from or archives as an independent release in 2014. The discovery of this almost lost treasure played a big roll in our production company searching for more such rare western film gems and launching the series "The Forsaken Westerns". As with many of our episodes it's a miracle that there is any copy of this film at all. Hosted by Bob Terry The Forsaken Westerns series contains episodes of TV shows that were never broadcast or have not been broadcast in as many as 65 years. Finally got to finish that one, I've got daughters and grandkids two of which are little twin girls , when the sheriff's Little daughter, hug and kiss the old lawman, guess that was an emotional part I laughed with joy and I guess relief for the sheriff, that's when you know it's a good one thanks Bob for the 30th or so time now.

The Ranger was no spring chicken. Wisdom accumulated over years or decades allow some men to make the correct choice, even in the face of the need to bend a little the very thing that gives their life meaning. A younger man might not have had the wisdom to make that choice, hell bent on upholding "the law".

Yep..A cold, detached, "By the Book" Judgment is not always the best way to dispense justice. There is another term...mercy...that is a very important ingredient here. Sometimes mercy is called for and sometimes it is not. In James 2:13 we read: " For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment". So...for a cold blooded killer...no mercy. For others who may have inadvertently 'broke the Law'. then maybe mercy can be a correct judgment. This is why it is so important to have judges who are morally grounded and who can wisely look at all of the evidence and circumstances and hopefully render a wise judgment in cases where the Judge has final say.
