I worked in Hollywood from 64 to 81. Mostly on western TV shows and movies. This is one of my favorite western movies. Most people do not know about this film. This is a movie you can watch over and over I had dinner with Dale Robinson, he was in an ambassador in Hollywood.
I’ve seen others movie versions of this Bret Harte classic! In my opinion this is the very best! The staging lighting camera work in the first 5 minutes set the hook and I couldn’t stop watching after that! Excellent movie!!! TY!!
WOW, what a nail biting film, what fabulous scenery and so unusual to be with so much snow. Great storyline and superb acting, great film all round! Thanks for this.
Western lover here: I never saw this. Really good cast and direction on a small stage. Classic plot. Dale Robertson was more dashing than I remember! Baxter was best as a youngster, one of my favorites is "Yellow Sky" with G. Peck. I prefer B & W. Also like, "Sunday Dinner for a Soldier." Good era for art in movies.
I haven't seen it either haven't found a new black and white for a while. I'll try your suggestion . . Two in one night . I must be in heaven. Better pinch myself to make sure I'm not still stuck in this planet of .....CAINT think of a nice word so I'll get back to the flick . Thanks fellow western fan . 👍
Both those movies were great! Ann Baxter was a really good Actress! As to this movie with Dale Robertson, he was a real hunk! I still watch him on "Tales of Wells Fargo". I believe when he was way younger he dated Marilyn Monroe.
@@Allanfreedom2004 Hey! Thought of a few more "noir" films you may like: "The North Star" & "Swamp Water" both with Baxter & Dana Andrews, & "The Forbidden Street" with Maureen O'hara. & "Toys in the Attic" with Dean Martin. Not westerns, but good. Feel free to ask for more.
Yeah, no camels or elephants for sure, Oklahoma became a state in 1907, I was born in 1941 on my fathers 4 section ranch, Hollywood has no idea how cowboys lived. Hollywood promoted gun violence for sickos, & made sluts out of the women, savages out of the 39 tribes who claim Oklahoma. Most insulting to the rear pioneers & very stupid people bought into it, dueling used to be legal among real manly men, until the pussies took over our republic, you got the corrupted Biden crime family & Willie Browns Slut in charge, that “ain’t” good. A Marxist Harris & a communist Walz will soon be in the WhiteHouse & digital currency on the horizon for ultimate control. I am O.G. (the only 83 yr old original genius & truth-Ayer)
The Outcasts of Poker Flat 1952. Bret Harte's gold-rush gambler (Dale Robertson) and others (Anne Baxter, Miriam Hopkins) are banished by a town and stranded in a blizzard.
I was born in the wrong century.... Not old enough to have lived in my prime during the 1850s to the 1880s and I love Ann Baxter, clearly the biggest named star in this movie. Dale Robinson and Cameron Mitchell hadn't quite hit their peak yet. And darn if I hadn't been born yet to have been able to date Ann Baxter either... Hahaha 😅. Back when the USA was clearly beyond a shadow of a doubt the greatest country on the planet. 🇺🇸. Not like today with the perverted movies, music and video games our kids are growing up watching.
I'm very happy to saw that movie again the actor is a good gamble like he's father was diying at the first movie at the boat 🚢 it's awesome movie🎉❤🎉🎉❤❤❤🎉🎉
I sat at a black jack table in Vegas in the early 80s with Dale Robertson at the table for hours. I was totally star struck, staring at him most of the time unable to speak and those table are not big embarrassing. Won $3000 that night though.
Great movie! Ann Baxter was a really good Actress! Dale Robertson, he was a real hunk! His brawn and good looks were extraordinary! I still watch him on "Tales of Wells Fargo". I believe when he was way younger he dated Marilyn Monroe.
I used to hunt and camp in the Sierras. I’ve been to Poker Flat. The real flat; not the movie set. A feature here - any place with only a 15 degree slope is called a flat. There are only two, primary directions in the Sierras - up, and down. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
The 1937 Film version was much closer to the book "The outcast of Poker Flat" written by Bret Harte in 1869. John Oakhurst commits suicide at the end in both the original book and in the 1937 version with the famous note "BENEATH THIS TREE LIES THE BODY OF JOHN OAKHURST, WHO STRUCK A STREAK OF BAD LUCK ON THE 23rd OF NOVEMBER, 1850, AND HANDED IN HIS CHECKS ON THE 7TH DECEMBER, 1850."". This 1952 film version ends on a happy note and the two main characters- Cal and Ryke are neither a part of the original book nor the 1937 version. Good attempt though!
🙏🙏🙏To the buzzard. Trust in god and hopefully he will look over you. I pray every body with that terabble sickness. 🙏 and you're right it was a very good movie. Take care of yourself.

Edit mistype ...Robertson
Great actor. Loved him in the TV series he was a Wells Fargo detective.
Really? You must have been drunk silly - I mean having dinner with *Dale Robertson* - you twit!
@@stephenmcloughlin7718 He wasn't must of a detective. He never caught Wells Fargo robbing their customers!
I'm 72yrs old and have always loved the westerns. Any movie with a horse in it is a good movie. I've sat a many horses, but not in years.

I wonder if the cougars got the horses or did they freeze to death.
Great classic western. I love watching Dale Robinson. They done a fantastic job of restoring it, it was a pleasure to watch
Well what movie was he in?
Excellent movie, very well written and acted. Thank you for the download and thanks UA-cam.

ANY Movie with ANN BAXTER & DALE ROBERTSON HAS to be GREAT!!
I loved Anne Baxter! She was a fine actress, played in another very good western with Jeff Chandler and Walter Brennan.
The Outcasts of Poker Flat. It was made in 1937 and remade in 1952. This is the later version.
There apparently are five versions going back even to the silent era.

This was a good story, was unaware of it. Liked the photography and cast.
Finest Western . I am 80. I can say!
Good movie with a number of good actors in their roles.Westerns are usually good to watch and enjoy.

Why did Dale Robertson wear those ridiculous padded shoulders in every movie he made?
Well to make more of a hunk like Vic mature
Did anybody notice how deep the snow got, 2” at most, mucha do about a blizzard, that was the fricken movie, another bullshit script.
What rubbish. Illogical, ridiculous plot. No doubt the script writer and director had westerns described to them; never actually saw one.
