- In today's episode, we're taking you through our most difficult day on our Switzerland trip. We spent 11 days traveling Switzerland by train and out of all those days, this was our worst. How bad did it get?😱😉🇨🇭

We are Oskar & Dan, two boys from Sweden who decided to change the course of our lives, drop out of university and live life full-time. We're planning to visit every country in the world before we're 30 with an initial goal of 100 before we turn 25. By the time of posting this video, we're both 24 :)

We began our trip in Zürich and went to Liechtenstein (country #70) from there. We then took the train down to St. Moritz before catching the Glacier Express the following day to Zermatt. From there, we moved on to the Swiss adventure capital of Interlaken, from which we visited Bern, Thun, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, and Mürren. We then spent two nights in Lucerne before heading back to Zürich to catch our onward flight to Barcelona (to visit Andorra, country #71).

@@OskarandDan Then you were lucky. July had only 4 or 5 days where it didn't rain. Also floods in several regions. But all in all, Switzerland got away really good compared to Germany.

The weather in the US Midwest is very bad as well - tons of rain and humidity - my least favorite combo.

Interesting how foreigners see Switzerland. Next time you eat a millefeuille: turn it 90 degrees on the side then cut it with your fork/spoon. Like this you can cut through the 'biscuit' parts without compressing it.

Thun is one of my favourite cities in Switzerland because it's beautiful and quite large (for Swiss standards) while still having close access to both the mountains and more urban areas like Bern. Just a great place to be. If it would have been hot and less rainy, you could have seen lots of people walking around in bathing suits and jumping from bridges into the river, which contributes nicely to the unique atmosphere. Sadly this summer is to rainy and cold so far, making bathing in the river to dangerous at the moment.

It has been a particularly stormy summer in Switzerland with crazy flooding and transit disruptions. Crazy to see you were caught up in it when you were on holiday! Glad you made it back safely.

FunFact: Bern is not the capital of switzerland because switzerland does actually not have a Capital. Bern would be what we call the "Bundesstadt" its the City where the "Bundesrat" is located.

If you are good swimmers, next time if you come to bern on a hot summerday, you have to go to the Marzili-Bad (no costs) and go swimming in the river Aare. When the water has about 20° its wonderful. You walk with thousands other people a long the river for 1 or 2 km and then swim back in the river. That is pure joy!

I grew up in thun but i moved to a small village right at the lake and have to get on that exact same bus you both took from thun to interlaken every single day😊

Thank goodness that you made it back safe. When I saw that thunderstorm, and heard of the mudslide, I suspected the worst. That you would need to sleep outside in the mud and the rain 🙌🏾

Did you miss Spiez? In Spiez at the like it is nicer than in Thun and in Interlaken.
If you are still around Switzerland and plan to come to the french part ... I suggest you to take the boat "Belle Epoque" on the lake on Geneva and take a tour to Chillon (and pass it) ... but stop there to visit the casle.
(do that when it will be sunny) ... promess... worth it.

the weather in Europe has been crazy lately... Switzerland and Germany were flooding, turkey and and italy are on fire, its like 45° in Greece, heatwaves everywhere etc etc... and some people still say global warming isnt real... stay safe you guys

I'm not sure if you were still here in Switzerland during the heavy rain and flood in mid-July, it got much worse than that. It's a very rainy summer this year so you may got lucky... Oh, and I live in Berne and I love it. In fact, I just work close to the Bakery Bakery you visited. Very cool to see you here! :)

I live exactly between Bern and Thun, both beautiful places. Interlaken is just too touristy for me. Yes, tons of rain this week. But as you saw, when things go wrong, the SBB finds solutions to your travel problems fast. Stay dry!

Ah, well, we still have rain and hail.
Interlaken is a very convenient base camp or connecting town, but not as authentic as most - though attractive. The area around Lucern is quite attractive, and the town itself very pretty. I like Lausanne the best of the northern Swiss towns, but no real losers. Lugano is my absolute favorite - in Ticino (the Italian quartier). Not sure if you are actual partners, or just good friends, but you seem to mesh together very well in all your adventures. Looking forward to more videos.

In Switzerland, everytime when a trainline is blocked by something, there is as fast as possible a bus to go to the endstation

Pro-tips from a swiss: next time you come you can buy food from Migros, it's slightly cheaper than Coop and they also have plenty of vegan option! Even cheaper is Denner but there's less choice :)
(And if you can, try the migros ice tea, it's very popular here! Almost a holy beverage for some 😂)

was that last friday? i was out for shopping, just left the shopping mall when i heard the loudest thunder in my whole 37 years of life here in bern. everyone around me including me got shocked a bit on how loud it was. sad you werent in bern at a sunny day so you could have taken a swim in the river :P its the best thing. but due to the heavy rainfalls and high water it was brown and not dark green it normally has and didnt look very inviting on this day :P

Our next video will dive into this more but we’d recommend a smaller village if you wanna be closer to hiking/taking gondolas up in the mountains :)
I just returned yesterday from 3 weeks in Europe and had the best time in Zermatt, the Glacier Express and St. Morris. Are you traveling on an Interail pass? We did a Eurasia as we no longer live in Germany and it was really great. Did Milan, Cinque Terre, Florence, Switzerland, Düsseldorf, Köln, Paris.

Fun fact: Switzerland has NO official capital. Bern is "just" city where part of the Swiss parliament is.
PS: in this case you have train problems, ask a Swiss, tell them you're a tourist, and they will help you.

That’s amazing the quality of footage you’re able to get out of your iPhone! Do you use the rear camera in wide angle? Or a gimbal? I’m just amazed… and also about ready to throw my Canon M50 out the window, as everything comes out shaky and dark and weirdly exposed. Maybe you just have doctor-level steady hands :)

When you first mentioned Thun I thought “uh oh, flooding” as they’ve been struggling there a lot this summer!

I did not go through all 200+ comments, so please forgive me if the following trivia has already been conveyed to you: Berne is not the capital of Switzerland. We do not have an official capital, It is the seat of goverment and therefore the closest we have to a capital... it is a typical Swiss compromise... since other cantons would feel slighted of any one canton would be the one with the capital, we decided not to have one. Federal goverment resides in Berne, however Federal court is in Lausanne and Federal court for insurance matters is in Lucerne... I do not mean to be a smartass, just wanted to add to the learning experience you certainly had in our country.
