Man it is always great seeing that there is nice people still that are willing to stop and check on one another. When I was in the country its like that but now I'm in the city and cops and people will fly by you like you don't even exist.... Miss the county
got a yamaha xt250 the other day and im loving this whole dual sport thing..You can go through fields and go from road to dirt so easily and not have to worry about the bike or anything i love it!
The Beauty of the Dual Sport ......YES, I want more videos lol I ALWAYS learn something new when I watch your videos. I like the education so when I'm in a conversation with bikes I kinda know whats goin on
On the dual sport you sit up high and take the wind right in the chest. Not sure about the 650's , but my WR is quite nimble so it's nice in traffic and around town.
Great point. I have laid her down in the bush a couple of times including ride 34 (which is uploading right now) and It's a breeze to pick up. Very agile in the bush and on the street. Thank you for your comment ! =D
ALWAYS stop and check on motorcyclists sitting on the side of the road. A few days ago i was out riding my dual sport and my compression ring broke. BAM! Done, cantgo anywhere, and cant get a hold of anyone because i had no phone reception. After 45 minutes someone stopped. He made my day.
It's a very reliable engine and I'm approaching my first valve adjustment and I have heard from other wr guys, that there isn't much if any adjustment needed first time around.
Cameron, I'm 5'11" and 170 lbs. The WR moves me along pretty well. You may want to check out KTMs dual sports, they have a larger displacement and more low end grunt. The WR with some mods would probably move you well but the KTM may be the way to go.
With the stock 43 tooth in the rear I cruise at 110 kmh , so around 68 mph, quite easily with throttle left. I believe it tops out around 98/99 mph. I have a 45 tooth on the rear so she revs a bit more at cruising speed.
I finally took the plunge and bought a 09 klr 650.. im moving to van island in a few months here from deadmonton AB and watching these videos makes me so elated to see the freakin awesome terrain you have out there.. hope to hit some trails one day with yah homie
Have you ever ridden a 400 or 450? If so how does this bike compare power wise? I know it's less, but fuel injection must have some benefits as far as throttle feel is concerned.
Im sussing out a location to shoot a review, so I hope to get that done soon...as for the vibration..110km/h is not bad at all. only thing is the seat...not as plush as I would like for long range riding.
This was my first camera which was the original GoPro Hero, I now have the Hero 3 and it would fit even easier. Check my playlist called "installs" for the camera set up. :)
Yamahas supermoto "X" are set up with street tires, this bike has on/off road tires so it gets the dual sport "R". same bike different tires. suspension could be set up differently as well.
I heard that KTM had reliability issues (I don't know, I've never owned one or ridden one), this is something I've read. In your opinion, is this true? Also what's your opinion on Beta bikes?
lol...I was never that good at english. The day that I shot this I had also shot ride 8 which was off road. This video wasn't planned. I just started babbling and when I got to the edit, thought I could use it. Good point though. Perhaps it's time for a remake of ride 7 with dirt and asphalt. Thanks for the comment. =)
3:46 THAT moment right there just convinced me to get a bike ..i donno what it is that sense of brothership and community , it's just great to see that :)
I actually own a '99 WR400f converted to a dual sport. Key word there though is "converted", which means it really just rides awesome off-road and is usable on-road. Planning on getting a 250r beginning of next year for a better all-around bike. Still keeping the 400 though, that thing's a monster!
At 1:28 when you lifted your visor up, about 3 seconds later I reached for my head as if I were to put my helmet visor down. You got me way to "in" to this commentary.. haha
for beginner riders the WR250R is a fantastic bike. It has more than enough power, Handles really well, and the top speed of 100 mph won't get you in trouble with the law. The bike is fun. Great off road and weighs in under 300lbs so you can throw it around in the dirt. As your riding skills catch up to the bike, just start adding aftermarket parts. Oh yea...stock bike is 70 mpg.
when it gets empty, I fill it up. ;) My fuel mileage is less than stock now with the mods on the bike so I really should do a highway ride and see what I get now
That's a bit of a mind bender for me as I haven't looked into aftermarket rims for the WR. You may need to find a WR forum to post that question on or the manufacturer of the rims in question. sorry I couldn't be more helpful on this one.
The WR250R is a great bike! Its just a hoot to ride. Always gives me a grin. I have 3 DS bikes, but the WR is the most fun. What's nice about it is its small and light enough to recover yourself if you're riding on a road alone. My KLR was bulky enough that I was concerned if the terrain became challenging that I could get in some trouble I wouldn't be able to get myself out of with that bike. Not so with the WR.
I wish they'd make street legal Fourwheelers already. I'm looking into getting one of these. There's something magical about flogging around a really good running single cylinder.
You pretty much covered the exact reason I decided to get a Dual Sport. I wanted a bike that I could ride literally anywhere. If I want to take a cruse down the highway I can, if I want to go into the city I can, if I want to hit some twisty mountain back roads I can. But most of all if I want to kick up a little dirt and shred some trails I absolutely can! It makes me giddy every time I see a "No OHV" sign here in Colorado and I cruse right past it with my license plate and a smile on my face. I have asked many rangers out in the bush what the difference is between my DRZ-400S with D606 tires and a straight up dirt bike that allows me to go down a forest road that is no OHV. Every time I get the same answer - Nothing, it's political BS. I then smile, say have a nice day and continue on my way.
Nice WR250R! Your videos rock! You crack me up when you get side-tracked on topics! :) Thanks for taking the time to post this video; you've convinced me to purchase one. BTW-What mods to you have on your bike? Seems to have excellent acceleration!
The Yamaha WR250r is the only thing I can finance at this time. I was going for the Kawasaki KLR 650 or a Suzuki 650 which I didn't get approved from. I'm brand new to the duel-sport scene and I was wondering if the WR250r gives a good balance for beginners? Power, speed, handling, fun, and ESPECIALLY if I'd get bored of it in six months, ya know? Thanks in advance
I live about 2 miles from a old WWII camp and they have trails out there that are fun to ride on and I wanted a bike that I didn't have to haul. The law likes to sit at the gates of the old base and write tickets for riding on the road if you are on a dirt bike. I have been known to leave the house for a short ride only to find myself a hundred miles away. stay safe
Lol a recovering speed addict! Me too. I should probably get this as a beginner bike since I'm a speed junkie and getting into my first bike this year hopefully.
I went ahead and did it. I have ownership of a brand new 2014 WR250R. But I'm not allowed too have effective insurance on it until the 24th of June, which sucks. I honestly can't wait. I love your videos! And thanks for the response a few months back when I said I was thinking of getting one. I forgot that I had even commented on this video until just now while re-watching this video. I did get your reply when you replied but forgot about that as well.
nice gloves. got the same ones. sweet bike too. I went with the xt250 although I really wanted the wr250r.my first dual sport though and I've never ridden dirt bike. so the size of the wr250r was a little intimidating. xt250 is fantastic bike though
I've never owned any type of bike but I am looking at a 94' yamaha xt250. Is there anything specific i should know about those bikes? I thought it would be a good beginner bike since i am just needing something to ride around town and maybe off road a bit with. Thanks man great vid by the way! @RideVictoria
i just got s sport bike but im thinking abt trading it for a dual sport so what do u think its better n make a review on the dual sport n how it runs please
I want a motorcycle... Seeing this just make me want to ride. But I live in Memphis, TN. Not a whole lot of country roads. What motorcycle should I look at getting? I don't care for going super fast, either. Just to ride.
hey man, love the videos.. i just sold my street bike to get a 13 wr250r and im kind of regreting it. its been so windy lately and i feel like anything over 55 im going to get blown over... is that just something il have to get used to?? i loved the speed of my zx10 and i love this bike on back roads and thru town but highway use is pretty scary
I agree. make a review on your bike :) I am wondering to buy one. It wil be nice to get a long-term review and not from a person that only ride it a day. How is the vibrasions and stuff on freeway in a 100-110 km\t?
I agree with what you said about the bike not having enough speed to really get you into trouble. That's what I like about my 650. It's not crazy slow, but it's definately not fast as far as motorcycles go either.
I'm 6'3 and 245 as well and was considering the KTM 650 or the Suzuki 650S. I'm coming from riding a 1300 "low rider" Cruiser. What do you think will be the biggest things to get used to?
Hey I live in Port Alberni, but was born in Vic. I recently bought a 1999 TTR 250, an enduro, Do you know what the laws are around converting and the like? It has a conversion kit installed.
It's waaaaay easier to talk about any subject on paved road. This vlog wasn"t a planned outing....I was just doing a quick reccy of the Area and started Talking
and then best thing about dual sport is that here in the arctic the ride season is olmost all year round and this is goming from a long time super sport rider that missed a lot on the fun.
whats the seat height on the wr250r? i like the tw200 for sure its not too tall for me. ha,ha! i found a five dollar bill while out riding my horse one day.
I'm 5'11" so the seat is not bad for me. I have ridden more powerful dirt and street bikes, but this has a nice balance of fuel economy, power and drive ability both on road and off.
I'm considering to buy a Wr250r or Wr250x whats the top speed on the stock models ? because i want to take it on the highway to and the speed here is 120km/h
im looking for a bike that is going to be street legal but feels like a dirt bike off road do you think his bike is good for that or should I go with a ktm
Man it is always great seeing that there is nice people still that are willing to stop and check on one another. When I was in the country its like that but now I'm in the city and cops and people will fly by you like you don't even exist.... Miss the county

Just bought my 2016 WR250R last week! Love it! So much more fun than my last supersport! Keep riding! Love from South Carolina!
Awesome !
The Beauty of the Dual Sport ......YES, I want more videos lol I ALWAYS learn something new when I watch your videos. I like the education so when I'm in a conversation with bikes I kinda know whats goin on

Just watched your recent video.
Then went back to look at this.
So glad you changed your mirrors :P
I finally took the plunge and bought a 09 klr 650.. im moving to van island in a few months here from deadmonton AB and watching these videos makes me so elated to see the freakin awesome terrain you have out there.. hope to hit some trails one day with yah homie
Cool stuff !! Let me know when you get here and we'll see what we can do . :)
ditto!
Main power mods are a fmf q-4 muffler and a power commander 5 fuel management unit :)
Have you ever ridden a 400 or 450? If so how does this bike compare power wise? I know it's less, but fuel injection must have some benefits as far as throttle feel is concerned.
Thank bud ! :^D I hope to have a part two in the future.
Im sussing out a location to shoot a review, so I hope to get that done soon...as for the vibration..110km/h is not bad at all. only thing is the seat...not as plush as I would like for long range riding.

I've just recently bought a WR, and now I know Chandler from Candian Friends rides one too. Happy days. :)
Nice ! :D
jb602 Just bought mine last weekend, but can't pick her up til the 27 of May... Can't wait!!

I love your videos, You're a really nice person, stopping and asking people if they need assistance. Ideal biker :)
Beautiful area! seems like the best place for a dualsport.
Welcome to the club!! good times on the dual sport.

when the weather gets nice we should take these people around oak bay for a tour

Thanks I appreciate the help. I'm going to test drive the KLR650, and Suzuki DRZ400SM and DR650SE. Hoping I don't dump it on my first test ride.
I wish they had a better after market selection that could bring me up to around 40+ HP.
when it gets empty, I fill it up. ;) My fuel mileage is less than stock now with the mods on the bike so I really should do a highway ride and see what I get now

I think you just need to take it in after everything is hooked up, and get it inspected.
The beauty of a dual sport is this... urgh! The beauty of a dual sport is this... urgh! The beauty of a dual sport is this... urgh!

I don`t have any specifics on that bike but for a first bike 250cc is a good place to start. easy to ride on the street and the trails
You may need a lowering kit. best to just stop by and jump on one at the dealer
I wish they'd make street legal Fourwheelers already.
I'm looking into getting one of these. There's something magical about flogging around a really good running single cylinder.
A supermoto running street tires can take you many places as well. As long as conditions are dry. I would attempt to take mine almost anywhere.
You pretty much covered the exact reason I decided to get a Dual Sport. I wanted a bike that I could ride literally anywhere. They are bringing in legislation here in BC that will require all off road bikes to be registered and plated......I shrug my shoulders. :)

Awesome video question how is it to take care of one like how the with valves etc etc etc

For this video it was mounted naked inside my helmet. Check the video out under the playlist "installs"

I luv to just wander on my bike.
Lol a recovering speed addict!
Me too. I should probably get this as a beginner bike since I'm a speed junkie and getting into my first bike this year hopefully.
I have had mine for a year and a half with no plans to upgrade. Still fun to ride.

I have to say, thats the best camera placement ive seen.
Actually, what your hearing is not my actual voice, I keep that just for friends and family. This is my UA-cam voice. Completely different. ;^)
base of the Malahat near Bamberton
Can we get that walkaround RV? Would love to see your set up!
Getting around to it, I just want to do it right. :)
Haha I was looking for a dual sport guy on youtube. Your bike sounds really nice, cool Video I subscribed
I've never owned any type of bike but I am looking at a 94' yamaha xt250. Is there anything specific i should know about those bikes? I thought it would be a good beginner bike since i am just needing something to ride around town and maybe off road a bit with. Thanks man great vid by the way!
@RideVictoria
Test ride them both and get a good feel for them before you choose.
Cool, thinking of buying one or the Honda CRF250L.
i just got s sport bike but im thinking abt trading it for a dual sport so what do u think its better n make a review on the dual sport n how it runs please

Its always good to have someone to "get the photo" of the tip over.
FMF Q4 with a power bomb header. sounds good. not too obnoxious in the city...just enough.
I'm 6'3 and 245 as well and was considering the KTM 650 or the Suzuki 650S. I'm coming from riding a 1300 "low rider" Cruiser. What do you think will be the biggest things to get used to?
I have a speedo healer on my bike which allows for that change. Check their web site to confirm that
I'm 5'11 and 180, its has lots of suspension and should really fit you well. Drop by a dealer and have a seat test. :)
That bike sounds great, what type of exhaust are you running?
Some dual sports even have small racks on the back that you could strap a jerry can to.
I think it's 6999.99 as well in the states.
Hey I live in Port Alberni, but was born in Vic.
I recently bought a 1999 TTR 250, an enduro, Do you know what the laws are around converting and the like? It has a conversion kit installed.
If you keep watching....I'll keep making them =D
Enjoyed your video! Will your WR250 cruise for an hour or so at 70 mph? What is the cruising speed?
In my case it happens more than it ought to...But I am looking for a buddy to ride with.
It's waaaaay easier to talk about any subject on paved road. This vlog wasn"t a planned outing....I was just doing a quick reccy of the Area and started Talking

Thats greats so roughly how often do they need valve adjustment
and then best thing about dual sport is that here in the arctic the ride season is olmost all year round and this is goming from a long time super sport rider that missed a lot on the fun.
ya im a beginner to so what is good to train on before i get the good stuff
whats the seat height on the wr250r? i like the tw200 for sure its not too tall for me. ha,ha! i found a five dollar bill while out riding my horse one day.
I would say take one for a test ride and see how it feels.
Where abouts you live? Looks like a good area to ride.
where did you take this video?... it looks beautiful there...
Just outside of Victoria BC near Bamberton
Excellent video. How do you find the tall (ish) seat off-road? And, do you miss the power and acceleration of a bigger bike?
I'm 5'11" so the seat is not bad for me. I have ridden more powerful dirt and street bikes, but this has a nice balance of fuel economy, power and drive ability both on road and off.
I hope you get you fix soon. ;)
What kind of speed did you mean?
Riding a dual sport along 'Ole miss and between cotton rows would be fantastic....but I'm biased ;)
That engine sounds very smooth!
Should I get this or a Ninja 250R? Id like to travel and drive in town
Where is your go pro mounted? On top of your helmet or on the side?
Gas mileage, bike weight, nimbleness and some great reviews form people, including ++AB
so would a 5'11 250lb man be able to reach highway speeds with this or no, seems awfully fun
I think supermoto tires are pretty much the same thing, but I'm not 100% on that.
RideVictoria you actually might convince me to get a wr250 lol i love being on 2 wheels, basically you can go anywhere lol
:) two words.....Single Track. :)
I'm considering to buy a Wr250r or Wr250x whats the top speed on the stock models ? because i want to take it on the highway to and the speed here is 120km/h
I have only started looking into dual sport bikes, what is the insurance like on a 250 Dual Sport compared to a Ninja 250 or 300?
awww come on dude you should have went around the double gates and explored a little 😄
early on, my riding was more conservative.....not so much anymore.
im looking for a bike that is going to be street legal but feels like a dirt bike off road do you think his bike is good for that or should I go with a ktm
