Okay this is kinda rough to watch... Know the stuff before before doing this. Jake always is very sure of himself, but he was very wrong about who got the bye week. Then when David pointed it out Jake didn't acknowledge that he was wrong. That just confuses everyone watching when you are so sure of yourself then don't acknowledge when you are wrong. The four highest-ranked conference champions get a bye. Meaning that a 9-3 team that upsets a 12-0 team in the conference championship could theoretically get a bye week if there is a lower ranked conference champion. But that likely will never happen because the major conferences have all scrapped divisions, so it'll be likely that the top teams in each conference will be undefeated or 11-1.
Expand to 16 teams single elimination playoffs. Reduce regular season games to 11 games and eliminate cupcake FCS out of conference games and "Conference Championships" games. The "conference champions" can be determined through round-robin and strength of schedule like Big XII did from 2011 - 2016. Realign into 8 superconferernces and automatic bid for 8 "conference champions" and 8 at large bids. No more than 2 at large bids per conference which will force talent to be spread out more evenly across conferences making the games more competitive and exciting the whole season. Home field advantage for "conference champions" for 1st round (Sweet 16). Quarterfinals (Elite 8), Semifinals (Final 4), and Finals (Top 2) on neutral sites. This is the way that all teams heading into playoffs will never play each other more than twice in a season and all teams play same number of games (no byes).
The 5 seed has the theoretical easiest path (*if they don’t make a conference champ game) … the 12 seed will almost always be the “best G5 school,” nearly the same amount of total “rest days” overall as the 1-4 seeds, less travel. And there’s also the chance the 12 seed is a CC game loser.l, which means one more game for your opponent and less rest for them. Everyone has to play a minimum of 4 games to win the Natty bc of the Conference Champ games, which are all played at neutral sites.
All I was trying to state was that Notre Dame wouldn't play a conference championship game. So if they make the playoffs, they already had a "BYE" during conference championship week. But your math is spot on, my friend! 4 playoff games for ALL non-conference winners if they want to win the NC. @@srb2834
Notre Dame should be force into the conference to be made to play UConn and those teams they should not be allowed to play any other conference teams cause they not in that conference
If today was the final rankings, this is what it would look like: 1. SEC = TEX 2. BIG10 = OSU 3. ACC = MIA 4. BIG12 = UTAH 1st round games (teams 5-11 seeded based on their final ranking in the CFP poll) 5. GA - SEC (home game) 12. NIU (MAC champ) 8. TEN - SEC (home game) 9. MIZ - SEC 6. ALA - SEC (home game) 11. PSU - BIG10 7. MISS - SEC (home game) 10. ORE - BIG10 2nd and 3rd round games played at the traditional bowl sites = Sugar, Orange, Rose, Fiesta, Peach, Cotton Natty = Atlanta The SEC makes big money in this 12-team scenario. A team that plays in the 1st round would play a total of 16 games in their schedule to be Natty champs. I can't see it happening. Injuries! The committee will collude to make sure a G5 team will never see a ranking above 12. We have learned from the Cinny and UCF debacle. ND will most certainly have to be undefeated to make the play-off. So, they better join a conference. The last time ND had a one lost season was 2018 and remember what happened to them against Clemson in the play-offs. A beat down. Their protection if they lose more than 2 games, is to be part of a conference and to play/win a conference championship. The undefeated seasons are over in college football folks!
I dont understand why dont we just keep upping the games played to twenty games then by the time the CFP National Title game goes down we can just see which team has the best 3rd string vs the other teams 3rd string?
Giving the group of five our own playoff would make it seem like we're not even part of FBS. At that point, we may as well be our own subdivision. I like that we get one automatic spot because it legitimizes us as all one subdivision, as it should be.
I don’t understand why Notre dame won’t just join the ACC already, they won’t win the Big Ten or SEC anytime soon and they’re always playing ACC teams anyway, I’m sure they’re more then good enough to contend with Florida State & Clemson. If they had been in the ACC last year they would’ve won it it’s a power 5 conference built for them to run
Why join a bad conference and lose out on the money they are making now, the one year they were forced to play in acc like 3-4 years ago they went undefeated. ACC slowly dying anyways. If they are going to join one it will be the big 10
If today? SEC gets 6 teams in the play-off. LOL And ND is today ranked 17th. So, they are out. They better join the ACC or BIG10 in the future. That lost to NIU was a killer.
I beg to differ; the group of 5 needs to be in this mix, and they should get multiple seats if they play the season correctly. Now, I agree that the G5s should have their own national championship game, but if that is the case, they need to change the NIL and transfer portal to help the G5 schools, not just be a feeder system for the P4 schools.
...this format won't hurt ND...all they need to do is win 7 or more games...the CFP will take them for the TV revenue...the Sec/B1G gets 4, the ACC/ Big12 get 4..then fight over the other 4...
Can't wait til an undefeated G5 team gets into the Top 4 and a buy with two other conference champs having two losses. It should happen... Will the CFP committee allow it??? Another debate...
