Sometimes that time to speak with a mental health professional costs thousands of dollars in the United States. And if you dont have insurance, you're screwed.

So, the american government should send another $100 billion to Israel and $80 billion to Ukraine. This clearly 100% is an issue with government allowing the working class to own guns and not corruption and refuse fundings for mental healthcare.
In 2022, 30k new IRS agents are recruited and $300 million additional fundings have be given for them to have better weapons to help with tax collection. While fundings for homelessness, education, border securities, and health insurance have been reduced.

It's never easy to witness such a carnage and we send our deepest condolences to the families that lost their loved ones. Hopefully this man will surrender before he kills or hurt more people. If only we could turn back time, a wish that any would have is to seize that moment where someone could stop the voices he heard...mental illness should be seriously considered.

Just saw more information on the shooter: he’s been hospitalized (summer2023)for psychotic symptoms and made threats against a military facility. Perhaps they were attempting to take his guns away. Tragic.

565 mass shootings this year! I had no idea those stats were so high, that is very upsetting. It's like a civil war is erupting, I'm not kidding that might be happening. This always makes me think of how pro gun ownership a lot of Americans are, and how sad and backwards that belief is. I'm glad to be Canadian for the simple fact I live in a country with strict gun regulations. We just don't have the volume of massacres happening here and it's nice to not have that always looming over me. If I lived in the states I don't think I'd send my children to school, it's just not safe. In fact I think any Americans with a head on their shoulders ought to get out while they can, before it's neighbour on neighbour violence in the streets. The situation down there seems to deteriorating month by month.
Agreed although our country isn't getting much better. Last thing we need is inviting our neighbours to move in with us....especially from Maine!

He was hospitalized for 2 weeks earlier this summer. He was hearing voices and hallucinating. I think that is very much a Mental Health issue.

Our injustice system let's dangerous repeat offending nuts out to roam our streets every day. Here, when a criminal is "banned" from owning firearms not only does the rcmp not check but in many cases these nuts still manage to find guns?? Not stolen guns from law abiding owners which seems to always be Ottawa's go to BS when attempting to deflect from their failure to prevent illegal firearms from entering the country. Then they make useless punitive laws targeting law abiding gun owners completely ignoring the root problem. During the NS shooting not only did rcmp NOT warn the public, many of them hid like chickens. And who was the culprit? A violent police obsessed INFORMANT who just happened to be banned from owning guns. Their purpose isn't to address the root cause oh no, it is however to use these events to try and prevent anyone from owning them. Never let a good crisis go to waste.

Actually Maine is one of the safest state. With 90% of gun deaths being suicides and way lower rate of homocides and gun related homocides compared to NYS. Even if you were to add this incident, the state is still safer than NYS or Michigan state.
