Robert Card, 40, a firearms instructor and longtime member of the Army Reserve, began to hear voices that were saying “horrible” things about him a couple of months ago when he was fitted for high-powered hearing aids, according to Katie Card, who is married to his brother “He was picking up voices that he had never heard,” she told NBC News. “His mind was twisting them around. He was humiliated by the things that he thought were being said.” Katie Card said the family did their best to reassure Robert Card that the comments were not real, including by verifying with some of the people he claimed had made the remarks. But, she said, “it turned into a manic belief.” “He was just very set in his belief that everyone was against him all of a sudden,” she said.
Should have taken those hearing aids and thrown them away. I don’t trust the government one bit. They could have been experimenting with him using those hearing aid. The government loves to do secret experiments on unsuspecting people.
Well, looks like a situation that could have been avoided. The "brother-in-law" got firsthand information that the guy was turning nuts. He did nothing and lots of people got killed.
@@hippiehillape While laws vary from state to state, all state laws include two basic criteria for commitment. The first is that a person must have (or be suspected of having) a mental illness. The second is that a person must be at risk of harming themselves or others.

People wonder how the shooter could just disappear. It’s not because Maine is wooded or rural. I’m familiar with the area. He has evaded tracking and capture because he had military training, was a gun specialist and apparently he laid out a detailed plan. Two shootings four miles and fifteen minutes apart. A car drop off 25 minutes away. Maybe to access a second car towing his 15’ motor boat which is now missing? The ocean is only 45 minutes away. By the time an active shooter alert went out he could have been motoring out to sea, heading to Canada’s coast. This was very closely planned and executed. He didn’t think he needed to cover his face because he believed he couldn’t fail. Have people been looking for abandoned cars and trailers along the coastal launch points? Talk about a needle in a haystack. He may get away with this.
How? I grew up in the inner city. I am telling you it is easier to get illegal guns than legal ones. You take them from the people they are at evils mercy and the governments mercy. Our gov is rather scary and evil. Wake up

We can continue to blame mental health, politics or whatever, but these mass shootings are absolutely preventable. Condolences to the victims.
If you live in Australia then you must be well aware of the critical differences in gun policy & laws since Port Arthur. That’s not trivial; the United States has had a disproportionately powerful firearms industry lobby and Second Amendment fundamentalist movement for a long time so these sickening bloodbaths will likely continue for decades to come, horridly. We are a very sick and backwards nation.

Bodies have to be identified first before body count can be announced on official records. Some news departments will state unofficial body count early in the investigation.
As soon as I heard the shooter was in the Army reserve I immediately thought PTSD. We have a situation of a mentally ill man (likely caused by his experiences in the Army) doing this terrible tragedy. Prayers 🙏 for the victims and their families. Hope the police catch this guy.
I am hoping that he realizes the horror of his actions and the voices in his head turn off, long enough that he will surrender. He was an avid hunter, so he knows the backroads. I hope the FBI is talking to all of his hunting buddies to see if he could be heading for a stocked lodge in the woods.
The voices in his head are likely just echos of the algorithm-of-clicks media that controlled his information. An article from “Heavy” (a news site that makes money off from “centrists” by featuring both right-wing and left-wing articles regardless of the facts like CNN) claims his Twitter profile (promptly taken down by Elon Musk’s people according to one commentator) showed he was deep into cultural and economic conservative woah-is-our-waning-control-of-our-children-and-of-the-complaining-poor narratives, including love of guns -as long as free guns and training are not given to the poor (to defend themselves from the tyranny of the minority rich) but only given access to the rich like drug dealers (to protect themselves from the tyranny of the majority poor or vague middle class).- Money corrupts and the crazies let themselves be used like deadly pawns, to their own detriment as well. Poor victims truly, 80+ years of mass shootings and their fellow citizens still haven’t figured it out like other “advanced” western countries. Sadly, Mammon wins this one again.
The direct victims can no longer actively participate in this crazy bitter sweet world, but I hope the friends and families can find some sort of peace at some point hopefully through intervention of peer reviewed non-monetarily-biased data scientists and fellow voting citizen being better more active participants. I know it’s hard even for me given my weekly workload for hardly any pay given the inflation of the past 40 years, but I can only continue to hope.

Well in Maine, you don't have to register a firearm for one. Also he could have got it from someone he knew, or he had it before all this. There are many ways to get a gun with out stepping into a store. Not all of them legal.
It's not Rambo movie no one searches alone or unarmed. They use body heat scanners on drones too but he is former military so he knows that and there are counters to it. Most important thing for him was to get out of the primary search radius right off the bat so while they waste time searching that he just gets further and further away. My guess he pre-built a little underground bunker/ hidey hole...perhaps multiple ones...along his planned out escape route to go underground to evade body heat scanners on drones and choppers and to stay warm. They are very reliant on those heat scanners on choppers and drones(if they have the local budget or definitely once federal law enforcement gets involved) . It's a good tactic but one a fugitive can use to their advantage if they know the tactics to avoid detection. (No, that does not mean cover yourself in mud like in The Predator movie with Ahhhh-nold) 😊
He could be anywhere right now, considering that he knows how to survive, considering he's from the USMC. More than likely, he probably crossed the border into Canada
FBI has drones too they bought in like fed 2020 … I guess the fbi is no longer useful or needed as an agency anymore!??! If they can’t even find this man?
So 66 degrees is not “cool” it’s warm temp. Why have this guy on there who has nothing to do with Maine or Lewiston? 🤦🏼♀️. Sorry for Lewiston to have to go thru this. We are praying for everyone affected by this shooter.
This EVIL MAN scariest traits is he is long haul truck driver. So, he knows the nation well, not just his local area. He is also a bulk fuel specialist. The mind boggles what damage he could do if he hijacks a fuel tanker and uses it like a suicide bomb. I would bet he put his cell phone down somewhere in the nearby woods. His fleeing car he could be anywhere by now in the United States.
If you have a handgun, (and are permitted to carry) please please please keep your firearm on you at all times.. no matter where you are. With crime increasing so rapidly in this country, you MUST always be 100% aware of your surroundings to protect yourself as well as your loved ones. Thoughts and prayers to the families who lost their loved ones.
I would like to believe that more good people would be carrying a firearm for self defense. I treat it as a civil duty to protect ourselves and others if possible. I'd hate to be in that situation and not being armed. May the lord take care of the lost loved ones. And may God bless their family and friends as they are in hard times.
Many of us have state laws that dont allow us to carry where alcohol is served unless we want to risk a felony. Yay gun control. The law abiding typically dont take that chance.
This guy lost his mind just as the government has planned, And they were notified of his mental state a year ago and did nothing. I remember we had nut houses when I grew up and was completely safe my entire childhood and life. Open the nut houses and by the way if someone says I hear voices maybe remove for an evaluation and possibly medical assistance. Once again it's preventable
I was wondering that myself. I read a comment somewhere else that said army people all know the bowling alley near a base where they're stationed is like the typical hangout spot/social life spot for the soldiers, so maybe he was targeting other soldiers he knew or assumed would be there. He did apparently make threats against the base in Saco recently but that's a good distance away so who knows.
He use to frequent both places. He was actually well like by people who knew him from the bar. He also liked to bowl. He was familiar to both places. I just happened to be driving by the bowling alley after the shooting. I didn't hear any shots but the police where arriving and people were running outside.
He was supposedly hearing voices and he thought more and more people were out to get him. Law enforcement and "the system" dripped the ball. Again! There are laws in place in Maine to take weapons from people who are a threat. His summer stay in a psych institution would prevent new purchase. Laws are there but nobody to enforce.

@orlandovelazco8337 oh I see, you lack education, charges would be filed in due time, it only happened yesterday. I thought you had a conspiracy theory, nm
He most likely planned this beforehand, since he would escape the scene successfully. Most of the time they either detain the intruder or the intruder dies, but this guy seemed to actually know what he was doing. Its definately not impossible to have a successful attack on innocent people and as far as I know theres many other ways he could've pulled this off and make it out alive. I also wanted to add to this since he was literally in the exact position for this to happen, mentally ill or not. He was an instructor and hunter who had access to a variety of guns due to his history in the army. He could've done this in his freetime if he wanted to, that's how much power this guy has over firearm ownership. There was practically almost nothing we could've done ahead of time, and we can't confirm his mental health medical history. Thats how he was able to take the lives of many people yesterday. The United States is scary as hell.
You're right. It seems the country is being taken over by the devil through leftist policies. Maybe if there were more thoughts and prayers we wouldn't have this. Until then, we can blame who needs to be blamed. Blame the people that didn't listen to his bosses when they wanted to hospitalize him. Blame them, not Smith and Wesson.👍
I'm gonna guess he took the river right after the second shooting. If not then he made a dugout and he's also using a survival blanket to block heat signature . He's had this planned for quite a while

Robert Card, 40, a firearms instructor and longtime member of the Army Reserve, began to hear voices that were saying “horrible” things about him a couple of months ago when he was fitted for high-powered hearing aids, according to Katie Card, who is married to his brother
“He was picking up voices that he had never heard,” she told NBC News. “His mind was twisting them around. He was humiliated by the things that he thought were being said.”
Katie Card said the family did their best to reassure Robert Card that the comments were not real, including by verifying with some of the people he claimed had made the remarks.
But, she said, “it turned into a manic belief.”
“He was just very set in his belief that everyone was against him all of a sudden,” she said.
Imagine if this country had free healthcare and he could’ve got proper help.
Started hearing voices after getting jabbed.
Should have taken those hearing aids and thrown them away. I don’t trust the government one bit. They could have been experimenting with him using those hearing aid. The government loves to do secret experiments on unsuspecting people.

He was? You mean he is, he's not found dead yet.
Well in Maine, you don't have to register a firearm for one. Also he could have got it from someone he knew, or he had it before all this. There are many ways to get a gun with out stepping into a store. Not all of them legal.
This guy planned for this. He is out in the woods hiding. Not in his house on Meadows Road.

How long will it take to find him ?
It's a paranoid feeling that you're going to have to go to the woods and find him and possible get ambushed.
Does anyone know why he targeted those two specific places? Did he have personal ties to them?
I was wondering that myself. I read a comment somewhere else that said army people all know the bowling alley near a base where they're stationed is like the typical hangout spot/social life spot for the soldiers, so maybe he was targeting other soldiers he knew or assumed would be there. He did apparently make threats against the base in Saco recently but that's a good distance away so who knows.
I believe his sister said he might have been going after his ex bc she hangs out there
He use to frequent both places.
