When I was a kid, in my head it was basically anorexic= ballet dancer. I read so many stories about ballet dancer starting to have disorded eating. I personally did ballet for 8 years and it was never related with my eating disorders, but once a friend told me that she was using compensative behaviour because someone told her to loose X kg, and I just knew it must've been someone at ballet. This world can be very toxic, and as you said, it's normalized (and in modelling too). Thank you for this video ❤️

as a dancer currently recovering, the part about “looking like a ballet dancer” really got to me. this is something every dancer should watch. thank you for sharing your journey 💙

This also applies to figure skating (as a former figure skater)! Glad your relationship with dance/exercise overall has improved

also an ex-figure skater (I switched to ice hockey and have since had to put that on pause due to my illness) and it contributed so much to my body image issues

I’m in recovery of an anorexia and it’s really hard to go through it because I was in my eating disorder for a long time so I’m used to the routine of not eating but I’m better then I was when I start my recovery

Im 39 and did ballet from ages 3-13. I quit when they told us "next year we begin partnering, and if the boys can't pick you up, thats your problem." I was 5'4" and 120 lbs but was taller than the boys so I was like "oh forget this" and quit ballet... but kept starving myself for like I dunno the next 25 years lolololol

The arm scars broke my heart. If they are from self harm I’m so sorry you struggled with that. I myself am struggling with it too. I do it sometimes if I eat too much as a punishment. Your body is beautiful the way it is, never forget that ❤

I only started dancing ballet very late in my life and I had problems buying dance clothes because a leotard or a short in adult size L would fit the extremely skinny 10 year old daughter of a friend but not me! And I always ask myself: who really wants to see a stick thin ballerina? Is it really necessary to be stick thin to be a good dancer? A friend of mine who was a professional dancer in one of the top five European dance companies told me that most probably 50 per cent of her (female) colleagues suffer of eating disorders. That’s very sad and I think the ballet world needs to change these unhealthy ‚beauty‘ standards.
