Sleeping at work gives you that entrepreneurial feeling you would only experience when you start to grow a new business. It keeps you on edge and makes you hungry for progress. It also sends out a strong message to the executives in the company who might only show up between 8 and 6.
I worked in 1982 also in a StartUp in "Production hell". The chief of software development slept some month in the company in his office working on the firmware for a computer system to control access to ski lifts There had been also 100 hours working per week.
This is why he's achieved so much in so short a time.

My grandfather who was a fairly rich man even in his old age preferred to live in a one room apartment with almost no furniture, he simply wasn't bothered about it that much and wanted to be working on his land as soon as he got up, with the laborers he had employed.
