Well this is a nice guy! I went to Quebec this summer and spent some days in an Innu reservation. People there were incredibly gentle and helpful, eager to socialize and talk about some of their social, cultural and legal particularities. I've really learned a lot during those days!
My Wife and I have been up to Waskaganish twice. Q in Winter and 1 in Summer. Sence we were first there in 2918 they have Paved a lot of the Town Roads and as of 2019 2 to 2 Km of the Road out of Town. The Cree People have a Great Faith in Jesus. They show a Love that We have Not seen in the rest of Canada. Great People.
I am so pleased you took us along for much of the day. This is part of Canada I am not familiar with and am a quite interested in today's introduction. Fascinating!
itscarolinemary Thanks Caroline! We really lucked out with Ken. He was an incredible guide, and a really great person. Thanks for watching, and thanks for your comment!
Fabulous documentary! I've done numerous fly-in remote bush fishing trips east of there over the years, but have never been to the coast. The farthest north on the James Bay Highway I've traveled is KM 381.Such a remote, wild and beautiful land which was unfortunately devastated by huge wild fires a few years ago. Someday I'd like to get to Radisson and see the Quebec Hydro complex there. Thanks again. (Form Ohio.)
What a generous man, so enthusiastic, so knowledgable and willing to share. So impressed with Canada and Canadians. Currently binge watching your play lists here in Ozzie land. Thanks for posting everything. Inspiring lives.
Great video. Ken was very interesting. I wonder what he does for a living. He seams very knowledgeable and educated. You were so lucky to have him show you around. I grew up in Minnesota, but now live in the Silicon Valley. I do miss northern Mn., and fishing in southern Ontario Canada. Love your channel.
Mark Kelly Thanks Mark! Ken currently works as the acting Tourism Officer for Waskaganish, but also works as a Northern Canadian hunting guide. In the past, he has been a contributing columnist for various magazines, a professional arm wrestler, and arm wrestling coach. I'm not sure where he acquired his formal education, but I'm sure he would say that he learned everything that matters from the wild :) Thanks for watching, and commenting!
Nice video! That was some intense water and it seemed like you really lucked out with the personal tour guide. That guy was awesome! Thanks for the video :)
Greg E Thanks Greg! We lucked out for sure! It was a wonderful little community and we couldn't have asked for a better guide. Thanks for your comment!
wow ! great video and production. im planning to do this drive in the next few wks. overlanding in a 4 door jeep. thanks again for the reality touch. very well done ;)
You guys are Great. Seems like such a Prefect Match which is so Refreshing. I worked my Butt off on my 1952 School Bus which was the Finishing up of the hardest part. 3 Days of Stripping it down to the medal but a Ton of Old Old Old Sticking Insulation that had been in there for years but I a lot of it had to be dug out from behind medal and of course it was a thousand degrees. Ha But getting there. Keep up the Happy Trails. Thanks
Terry Skeans Thanks Terry, we really appreciate that :) Your bus sounds awesome! If you took any videos of the process, you should definitely post them. We (and I'm sure MANY others) would love to see it! Thanks for the comment!
Hi, New follower here, only my second video of yours. So impressed with the content and knowledge of your friend and all he shared. I thank you for this and am looking forward to viewing your others.
Ginny D Ken was such an interesting guy. We could easily listen to him for hours (in fact... we did! lol). We hope you enjoy our other videos as well. Thanks for following Ginny!
Very beautiful and such a large town. Where we lived in the Arctic Circle there were only 250 buildings. There were maybe 10 trucks, but everyone else walked or used snow machines or ATV's to get around. We only had two stores, a Northern and a Co-Op. Really interesting info about the White Fish. I always found it interesting too where I lived, as like your guide Ken told you, that most people that had houses in town also had cabins at the lake. Our lake was only about 5km away. This community is much more organized than where I lived. So glad that you got to meet many people as well. I am looking forward to your Nunavut exertion tomorrow. :) Thanks for the great video and sharing your adventure. :) ps, what was Paula cooking at the end? It looked like a pan of fried onions.
R unners Your community sounds really great. I love small villages like that. The people always just seem so much more warm and inviting. How long were you there? Was it for work, or are you from there originally? Paula was frying some rice with onions and garlic. We had it with some other sauteed vegetables. It was delicious! :)
A Guy. A Girl. And a Campervan we were there for 2 yrs. My husband ran the Mental Health Program in town. Yes, the people are so warm and friendly. The community that we were in was a very traditional community. There weren't even 1000 people in town and only about 30 people, if that, from the South. My son, who was 5 at the time, was the only person in the whole town that had blue eyes and people loved looking at his eyes. :)
Always like these kind of adventure vids. Only if we had UA-cam back in '92 when I traveled to Alaska on the Alaska Highway from BC through the Yukon into Alaska to Fairbanks and back to load up on UA-cam for everyone to watch.
Wonderful tour and history of the local area. I only wish that I was younger so I could travel to far and remote areas. I would feel a little uncomfortable ... especially since I travel alone being on remote roads and areas. I don't image there is much cell phone service is some of these areas. :)
Thank You ,Ken for being there (awesome)taken Us Back To Reality God Bless you and Family . You guys I Really enjoyed all the nature stuff I seen the 10 and thought was that the time ,I fish so High tide mention was cool & not to go ouy ona boat. You have a Tough Van when they `ll pave the road. Long Trip . I post some of your stuff on FB .Had family that lived near Ottawa Canada help alot of US live though Vietnam.
That water looks so awesome. I love the sound of the water. Its funny that you followed the wrong silver truck to. What were the chances of that happening. Lol. Great video hope to see more.
uhavemooface Thanks MooFace! We could have stayed and listened to that water for hours. The truck situation was like something out of a movie. lol. I remember thinking "Did that really just happen!?"
hey you two are awesome, house on four wheels, awesome it is, wanting have one for myself since long but the daily life hustle has not yet permitted it to happen. what i like and saw is the condition of the roads are awesome, i am from india and you would be lucky to find few 100kms stretch good rest would be crap, slowing down your journey.
Paras S Thanks for watching Paras! We would love to see your part of the world some day! We completely understand about the hustle of daily life. We hope you are able to get a van of your own some day! Thanks for your comment!
Oh yes, even i have the same thought on my head before exploring the world i would like to explore my own country, and one more thing i liked that you have facilities available such are water, power for charging your batteries, proper disposal of the grey and black water, here in india you want find that disposal and charging facility, water surely you can manage to get. Anyways certain things we just cant help but have to manage the Indian way then. Lol
Paras S My goodness, you sure have a way of putting things into perspective! Thanks for sharing some of these details about India. I find it fascinating!
seriously i am very impressed with your concept of living the life, and have been looking for the alternative as to how to achieve my goal of having a perfect camper van which could satisfy my need and also not break any law or litter in anyways, looking forward for you next video and your new trip, enjoy you guys....and have a safe and sound trips..take care..
Wow, what an interesting place! I am from South Africa and Canada is such a different place. I had to google Cree because I did not now that such a nation existed. I love to see more videos of your day to day living in the van. Very interesting! What is the main source of income of the people in Waskaganish?
They are native aboriginal people, they don't need to have jobs (government takes car of all their needs) but some enjoy working for a living and some enjoy the traditional life style, living off the land.
Hey, so I'm going on a similar road trip this week, and my family realized that there are no campgrounds in Waskaganish :( . Do you mind helping me out in terms of how you stayed there overnight, and do you know if they'll let you camp there like without a campground?
This might seem like an amateur question but when you park to sleep, where do you park? Is it just in a parking place or do you have to find a camping Van spot?
Elliott Ottesen Not an amateur question at all! Luckily, our van fits in a regular parking spot, so as long as we have permission to stay for the night, we can basically park anywhere. I think this may make a good topic for a future video. Thanks for the idea!
Andrew Plantagenet Lol, I knew someone would have to ask :) Our van has received a number of bumps and scratches in her 23 years... The drivers side fender was a result of a minor run-in with another vehicle on a particularly icy morning, this past winter. We haven't had the money to repair it cosmetically yet, but in the meantime, I think it adds character ;) Thanks for watching, and for your comment!
Polly traversed those rocks like a "voyaguer" thats french for bush loper. Polly is definately not a bush loper; she is a wonderful traveling companiion. i don't know anymore frog. eh! ok!
that was my only french-english translation i could remember. having fun with the linga franca etc.there are places in Quebec that i might have to have an intercession by the Queen to get back home! yes i jest! lol

From which store can i buy mosquito bed net in Canada?
Looks like I'm the only one so far who will address the elephant in the room as ask how come your driver side front fender s scraped up?
