One of the things Jackie Chan is well known for is implementing comedy with martial arts using everything around him to help him out. Also worth mentioning, notice how he always gets hurt and struggles in the fights but also comes out on top because he doesnt give up, he's just not the all-powerful hero. I think Jen just wasn't expecting the comedy and ridiculousness in the storyline, now knowing what to expect she's definitely gonna love the second one. @ieyke 2 роки тому +54

Nah, jokes depend on the context they're put in.
Some of this is a little jarring at first if you've never seen it before, because you don't know what's what.
But these jokes end up being great once you learn that the FBI guys are being portrayed as assholes, Carter is an idiot, and Jackie is a nice guy just trying to be friendly/polite but not knowing any better.
The film isn't trying to depict Carter as wise or right. He's the butt of the joke.
It's not making the FBI the heroes. They're sort of lesser antagonists.
And Jackie isn't treated as fully knowing what's going on, he's just blindly repeating what seemed to be polite.
      Context defines how everything lands.

My recommendations for more Chris are Money Talks, Fifth Element and Friday. The rest for rush hours of course but one change up for him is Dead Presidents to see him in a more dramatic role.

Holden definitely is justified in his level of respect for Jackie Chan. This dude puts in work and has broken his body to bring surprisingly wholesome entertainment to the world for, what, 400 years now? Others can claim the same, but he's not bringing any weird stigmas along with it, like the full force of Scientology in his back pocket the way a cornball like Tom Cruise does.
The guy lives life like a superstar, but when you see him in interviews, he seems like a genuinely friendly guy who would give you a few minutes with a giant smile if he could spare the time. In fact, he seems _so_ squeaky clean, I almost worry about a day that an email account gets leaked and we learn some sort of Bill Cosby-esque secrets... But that guy has had rumors for years. I really haven't heard anything negative about Jackie Chan. Either he's managed to remain a pure human being, or China's censorship is 2legit.

Why not? A buddy cop movie w/ racial jokes and Mariah Carey's "Fantasy" playing on the radio... You could practically smell the 90s.

You mentioned “Who Am I”, therefore, I love you in a completely platonic way. Hands down one of my favorite Jackie Chan movies, with Rumble in the Bronx and Legend of Drunken Master tied for second.

Jackie Chan is not someone to look up to outside of their work in the movies...as is the case with most actors. The old adage about meeting your heroes exists for a reason.

I love Jackie Chan's movies too ... but he's got a controversial rep in hong kong speaking out against freedoms in China and being thought of as a shill for the CCP and some domestic issues as well. Since I read about that stuff my joy watching his movies hasn't become less, but I don't think of him as a person in the same light.

It's crazy how wholesome his image is in the west based on the roles he plays. Props to his manager. He is generally seen as a pretty sleazy guy in Hong Kong. I don't think that's any reason to not watch his films though.
