    When SFII came out, the machine (singular) at my local arcade was always busy. One day I noticed the single cabinet in a take-away on the walk home from school suddenly had six buttons and no one was playing it. I walked in trying to look cool and unexcited (a hard thing for a teenage boy), dropped my coins in the slot without really looking at the screen and... entered a world of disappointment and confusion.

    One more tip: on the brick-breaking bonus stages, just start tap-tap-tapping so that your attack comes out immediately upon getting control. Since the "TIMING" bar starts out full, you'll hit it with full power every time.
    Still have fun every now and then running through this. Though I've found that there will always be those times that Adon, Sagat, Birdie, or even someone else will surprisngly and quickly eff you up no matter how good you get at the negative edge, preventing the 1CC.

    You can kill with a single DP, but it's extremely rare. It has to hit 4 times, and the only time that happens is when a character like Lee does his charging-forward move and the effed up collision detection effs up more than usual allowing you to get the 4th hit. Otherwise the max is 3hit, 95% damage. You know, sissy damage.

      Art of Fighting 1 and Fatal Fury 1 are a lot like Street Fighter 1 in that it wasn't really designed - gameplay-wise - to be a true 1-on-1 fighting game, but it was almost like a boss rush of a beat 'em up instead. That's why you have the small roster and most characters seem to be able to break the rules that should exist.

  • @nchw68
    @nchw68 2 місяці тому

    Back in the late 80s I took out Sagat with one dragon punch on a 6 button version of the game. When the round started I immediately did the DP and he immediately charged at me and the DP connected 3 times. The round timer stopped at 99. It never happened again after that. I think it's possible to take out Birdie the same way since he also charges very fast with the head butt. I have KO'd Birdie with one DP numerous times back then but not with 99 left on the timer. It's worth noting that the Dragon Punch cannot be blocked in SF1. It also can still connect when the animation shows Ryu is facing away from the opponent in mid air.
    I've also KO'd Gen with one DP numerous times because he often comes at you quickly. Gen has a move where he has both arms extended down low and the Dragon Punch won't connect when he's doing it. And Geki's stars bounce off of you with a metallic sound when doing a DP. Now that I think about it, I played it so much back then I think I have KO'd every opponent with one DP at least once. For the opponents that don't charge at you fast you need to be right up against them sometimes for the DP to connect 3 times. Those were very lucky circumstances though.
    I couldn't DP consistently. It was probably 50/50 chance my inputs would work because I didn't know exactly what the inputs were supposed to be. Birdie is a good candidate for a one DP KO because he's tall, increasing the chance for the 3 connects. It's strange that the DP can't be blocked and sometimes the CPU will still come at you after you've executed the move and still in the animation. I think it's this lack of AI, if you will, that facilitates one DP KOs. I mean the CPU gets hit, often registering as 2 hits if you're close enough, and they come right back at you getting hit a 3rd time and lights out.

  • @jcasetnl
    @jcasetnl 9 місяців тому

    The negative edge thing isn't necessary. It does make them easier but the most important thing is to do the motions more slowly and deliberately. You can't "flick" them out like in later games. Most common problem is as soon as people start getting rushed down they panic and do the motions too fast. Another problem is the game briefly goes SUPER slow motion after a fireball hits on some characters (but not on block). You have to adjust your timing to start the next FB motion accordingly. Lastly, DP is both 100 percent invincible and hits on the way up AND down. It's always the move to use when you're in trouble. You can DP across the whole screen and beat it that way if you want. Justin didn't do that because it would be a boring video. DP does the same damage as FB but can sometimes hit twice (it's kind of random). On a few characters like Birdie it can even hit a 3rd time. I beat Birdie with 97 left on the clock.

    Is funny how we have to think about the Negative Edge to ACTUALLY do the special moves in this game, it was fun back in the day at the arcade I was used to play how I eventually figured that out and being able to reach Adon and Sagat with ease overall, again, the game for me was fun, but even I CAN'T DENY how crappy it is by the fighting game standards that started (pretty much) with it's sequel with it's original World Warrior version.

      @@srsgoblin It would have been cool if they were from SF1 for continuity but Capcom often responds to fan theories and ideas. Just look at Akuma, biggest April Fools' joke created by EGM (1993) based on fan theories, who then goes on to become a fan fave after being added to the roster in 1994. The turbo modes are also an American tournament idea too based on the bootleg versions of the games coming out of Hong Kong etc. This 'feedback' would also be integrated into the official versions later on.

    There is no chip damage in sf1 when blocking, so our method was always to get our life bar just above the enemy then sit and block in the corner until time ran out. Superior cheese.

    Birdie is my favorite one off goon that Kenshiro killed. If I have learned anything about the 80s it’s that we wouldn’t have the current form of beatemups and fighters without The Fist of The North Star. Double Dragon and Street Fighter were both visibly inspired by the series with Birdie being an HnK style goon and in later games Ryu sharing the same early childhood as the protagonist of HnK. Plus we wouldn’t have Akuma and Satsui No Hado without the second part of Hokuto no Ken which is probably the inspiration for the bearded Ryu skin in SFV. I could keep going but my phone might die soon.

    If you thought that was tough tried either the native turbo graphic 16 version of fighting streets or the wiiware version of that exact same game. I could do dragon punches and fireballs with Ryu about 50 to 80% of the time anytime I command it in the arcade version but in the home version I never let out one when I wanted to.
    How could the arcade version, which is notoriously tough until you know the specials be easier than the home version where you can't even do specials well. I think I only done it once or twice by accident.
    That's either the turbo graphics CD version of fighting streets or the wiiware version of that same game.
