The multiplayer mode in this game back in 2005 or something was soooooo super addicting and fun. It was my first multiplayer experience. Back then there was 1000's of players so it was great and competitive too. But then.... Ratchet: Gladiator (deadlocked) just blew it out of the window... the MOST addicting multiplayer experience I have ever had. I remember coming home from school mouth full of saliva and playing the shit out of it. No game has ever been so addicting...
bubbajoe117 4 years late but I really find those mission very boring, I mean we already got enough of those in the annihilation nation and the main game.
PWNDpresents What he says is true in most cases tho lol except when it comes to ratchet... 3 is better than 2 but u can debate with Jak and Daxter or Crash Bandicoot
New Zealand was weird with its titles. Our Ratchet and Clank 2 was renamed Locked and Loaded but our Ratchet and Clank 3 was still called Up Your Aresnal :P
3 of my favorite things about UYA were 1. if you got all the VR Training Simulator Trophies and the Collectable Trophies or found the secret teleporter by either finding it legit or changing the time the Insomniac Studios would open 2. the secret code to change the wrench into a double bladed purple lightsaber that had greatly increased damage and range and faster swing speed... A F**KING LIGHTSABER 3. THE PDA! OH. MY GOD. THE FREAKING PDA WAS AMAZING! let me explain how to get it and the wonders of the PDA. you purchased it near the end of the game for 250,000 Bolts (a lot right? lol) at Quark's Hideout on the Thrann Asteroid and it allows you to buy ANY ammo (of course 10x the price) (except for the 5 MegaCorp weapons) at ANY point INCLUDING ANNIHILATION F**KING NATION, THE F**KING SEWERS, AND THE FINAL BOSS OMG, YES! this was really handy because for those 3 areas you ran out of ammo A LOT and there were no vendors around so you would just try and smack everything and you would die 100% of the time (75% if you had the lightsaber) and you would have to do it all over again
am i the only one who really doesnt like ratchets re designed look on the ps3 future series? cause i cant help but miss the way he looked on the ps2 games
That's the way I used to feel when I owned the PS2 and ToD came out. I hated it. When I started playing the PS3 games I started to appreciate the design and how it looks way better (especially in ACiT)
I play them as I have a ps3 but I still prefer the ps2 versions :/ Then again I dislike new games in general in comparison to older games. Too realistic XD I prefer the old wacky platformers
DanParthenis Ratchet has some different designs though. When all 4 one came out his suit looked different and he had a wider face, he looked younger but in tools of destruction, Quest for booty, and crack in time he looked more older and mature.
I completely agree with everything you said. I did play it online and I had fun, but unfortunately, it competed with Halo and Halo won every time for my online time back then. But I did enjoy this game, just not half as much as Going Commando. IDK if you'll see this but I really enjoy your R&C reviews! It'd be really cool if you did the R&C Future series too! I loved those games. Mostly because they introduced one of my favorite characters, Mr Zurkon. Also there's Deadlocked (which was fine, didn't love it, didn't hate it. Lots of customization which was pretty cool, but I missed the platforming), All 4 One (I know a lot of people will disagree with me, but I had fun with it and I'd totally be open for another one because I had tons of fun playing with my friends. And the Mech RYNO was awesome! It's my favorite RYNO), Full Frontal Assault (Again, had fun, but wasn't that great), and Size Matters (For a handheld, it's pretty dang good.). That's a ton of content but I would watch every one of those if you ever decided to make review videos for them. That'd be awesome if you did! Thanks for all the great content!
I think part of why some people don't enjoy this game as much as the second game is because the second game was a huge leap in quality compared to the first. Going back to Ratchet 1 after playing this one, while it's still a good and simple platformer, Ratchet's movement is very slow and clunky by comparison, which is why Ratchet 2 was such a big game-changer. While this game did improve on Ratchet 2 in a few ways, it wasn't as substantial as 1 to 2. While I like this game as much as (if not slightly less than) the first game, I didn't really like how ugly and confusing the UI was in general when compared to Ratchet 2. It's like they tried to fix what wasn't broken already.
actually 80% of the Battle sections are optional while 20% are optional i personally like up your arsenal more than going commando because the later half doesn't feel like castlevania weapons upgrade more than once, the arena has more to offer, the atrocious ship sections are gone also i like the skins I'm a sucker for those to me it's like comparing super Metroid(up your arsenal) to ocarina of time(going commando i have to be in a certain mood to play going commando
This might be like, 2 years too late, but I'd like to clear something up: Ratchet: Deadlocked is canon. It is absolutely canon. It was put in there story-wise in order to get the developers an "excuse", if you will, to basically change the direction of where the story goes. It was meant to be the turning point in Ratchet's character, where after being put in a death game that risked not only his life, but his friends, and constantly having to feel powerless, caused him to change mentally. This is why the next few canon Ratchet and Clank games are so much more different in terms of overall seriousness and feel (excluding the fact that this is them in the future, so they have matured a bit). Ratchet was scarred and changed from the events of Deadlocked, making him take things more seriously (though still not without his charm of course)
Considering multiple canon games in the series such as tools of destruction and into the nexus acknowledged deadlocked, it's obviously canon, the only games that aren't are size matters and secret agent clank.
How can Size Matters be canon? Nothing in the game gets mentioned in future games, and Ratchet, Clank and Captain Quark act way out of character. I'm sorry, but I don't see how Size Matters fits into the Ratchet and Clank universe. I can see Secret Agent Clank as canon though, as sort of a playable episode of the in-universe show.
While I also didn't really like the hacker puzzles, I don't think that they are meant to be "puzzles." They seem more like timing than a puzzle to me. Which I guess one person may like and another won't The only part of the game I really didn't like was Qwark vidcomics. I just wanted to play the actual game, not some tedious subgame I was required to complete to continue the story
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who prefers Going Commando over this game. Still a great game though! Going Commando had more weapons and more bosses (the more the merrier) :D
8:01 that level glitched on me where enemies were invincible and didnt even notice me and I couldnt hit them... they only nloticed me when they got a cheap shot on me and that glitch happened frequently with robot NPC's.
Hey man I love your reviews, I was wondering if you could review a few of these games 1:Ratchet and clank:A crack in time 2:Ratchet and clank:Tools of destruction 3:Infamous 2 4:Uncharted Franchise Thanks keep up the good work
Up your Arsenal holds a firm place in my art because it was my first online console game I delved into. It was a good time, but I actually preferred to play deadlocked online instead.
Going commando was the best, 3 was shinier, but I feel like it was too repetitive and bland with constant shooting of guns I'd rather replace with previous designs
i agree with what you said, great review. however i feel as though you were slightly lenient with going commando as it wasnt ever criticized, i think you did a good job with this one. expressing your opinion is always what makes me watch your reviews :)
Actually after Arcadia most of the battle missions are optional actually the arenas in going commando were plot important for getting gadgets and the sphere mini game in going commando was terrible because navigating through the sphere is a pain in the ass and drags out and if you fuck up you have to start the puzzle all over again
I actually loved the Galactic Ranger missions. They were my favorite part of Up your Arsenal and the reason it's my favorite of the quadrilogy(because Deadlock is canon and came after Up Your Arsenal.) It made feel like a badass general helping the Galactic Rangers when they needed help. It was also a fun way to earn money and exp.
I gotta say the sewer sandbox part is my favourite in the series for one particular reason and that might be biased. Imagine an 11 year old boy who played this game all day and even continued through the night, until he decides to actually go and collect all the gems in the sewers, tight corridors all around forming a huge maze, with the most ammo-consuming enemies all around him and limited ammo with vendors and health nowhere to be found because of the maze-like structure of the place. The music being creepy and at one point the whole place turning red instead of green as he was running out of ammo and health with these big daunting enemies popping all around him. This is the reason i loved that part and i remember it so well,it scared the ever loving crap out of me when i was little and to this day i am a bit scared of that place.
VisualGourmet Well even tho i ain't a kid i would probably still be like "is this part really for kids? This would freak my niece and nephew out" if i saw it for the first time.
Iraklis Pazios Graphical(ish) content aside, just regarding the complexity/genre/gameplay: Kids like it. _But what about mature people?_ Games like e.g. Mass Effect are also intense, but easy as fuck, especially if there's no real choice in the multiple choices and any scene comes down to the same end. It's also for kids, untalented, undeveloped, easy to impress, little humans with simple needs in terms of gameplay...
i think one of the reasons why i prefer this over going commando is because i found GC frustratingly difficult at times. UYA was much more... chillaxed? in terms of diffuculty, so i found it way more enjoyable. also, i think it's safe for me to say that dr. nefarious is one of my most fave video game characters ever, like holy crud he's fantastic.
I played this game first then the original game and the sequel last and honestly that's also my ranking. I love all of them but for different reasons... First Gane because of the great art design, Humor, best soundtrack by a mile, second game because of the bold changes and a great lineup of weapons and lastly the third game for it's story, the Humor again, a great weapon lineup and the pure nostalgia having played through it around 50 times at least.
Recently got the HD Trilogy. Loved the first one and am enjoying 2. What I don't understand is the removal 'Arsenal' in Europe when we have a frickin football team in London called Arsenal. It can't be that offensive?
Hey Antdude, no rush, but I'm definitely anxious to hear what you think of Ratchet Deadlocked and--if you've ever played it--the Jak Trilogy. Wouldn't mind hearing your thoughts on the later Ape Escape games either. :)
The reason why i this is my favorite ratchet game is because it fixed all the problems i had with the first 2 games. I hated the race sections from the first two games and the space ship sections from ratchet 2 were boring and tedious. I loved all the characters from ratchet 1 and i was glad to see some of them back in ratchet 3 along with some new ones. This was a huge step up from ratchet 2 with only having 2 memorable characters. Overall i love the trilogy as a whole but r3 was just so great.
See, I really like the fact that each weapon has multiple upgrades in this one - as you yourself said, in R&C2, when you upgraded a weapon, you never used it again since you had to be upgrading other weapons. With each weapon having multiple upgrades, this becomes less of an issue, since you can have several weapons in the middle of upgrading at the same time. Unless you focus on just using one weapon at a time, but trust me, that's a bad idea if you want to level up the early-game weapons. Other than that, the only other things this game has going for it are Dr Nefarious (who is hilarious - hey that rhymed!) and the hub world - which is nice to have as a place to go and relaxk, as well as being convenient to buy armour - the vendors in R&C2 were in the middle of missions until you got to the end of the game, which is really dumb. Honestly, if R&C2 had the villain and upgrade system of 3, it would easily be my favourite. As it is, they're constantly teetering back and forth as to which is my favourite - heck, even R&C1 gets in there occasionally with its fantastic character development... then quickly falls back once I remember the only way to upgrade weapons is with the gold bolt stores. Oh, I also like the fact that this game tells you how many Titanium bolts are on each planet so you don't have to re-scour every planet if you miss one. Granted, the reward is super lame, but hey, it's a nice feature that I wish was in the games where the big bolts actually mattered.
Dude these reviews are so spot on. I just watched the spyro reviews now these and there just as I saw the games, great job man. Your definitely Very honest with your opinion's and for that I'm gonna try and introduce my friends to you. You deserve so many more subscribers for the amount of effort that goes Into these videos. Again saying these were my favorite childhood games I think you nailed it.
Ratchet Going Commando is tied with Crack in Time for me as both my favorite Ratchet game and my favorite games of all time. Up Your Arsenal for me is like a really, really, really close second or third for me because for every step the game took forward, it took like a half back. I missed the Platforming from Ratchet 2 but this one was still pretty amazing all around. I will say one thing about Ratchet 1. Going Commando as my first exposure to the series absolutely killed the game for me to the point where I didn't even like playing through it after years of holding it back. The lack of strafing was incredibly inexcusable, and unpausable quick select screens just kill games for me.
It's a huge shame that you never played the online mode. It was amazing (although people found so many glitches they used to cheat with after the many years). Also, you didn't mention "Challenge Mode" (whihc isn't much of a challenge because you carry over upgrades). However, you can get to level V8 for your weapons I believe. Also, that car with the turret does exist in the game. It's in the online mode.
Insomniac seems to have a trend with the trilogy thing. First game was ok, second game improved it out the bum, and the third is considered the best in the trilogy. And for you, Ant, the second is the best. Definitely a trend Insomniac has.
I do love Up Your Arsenal but Going Commando is still my favourite out of the PS2 Trilogy. Besides Going Commando did the improvements and upgrades first.
I liked Angela, I really did :( My favorite female character in the series. My favorite R&C games: 1. Deadlocked/Gladiator 2. Going Commando/Locked and loaded 3. a Crack in Time
The Quark comics are challenging? they give you infinite lives and guns that kill everything in almost 1 hit, and somebody said they were CHALLENGING?!?
Flash X, extreme gamer I'm not saying that it is bad, I actually think that it's a pretty good game. But really, what makes it better than Going Commando?
+ThePumao X well I'd say that RaC 3 is for some one who likes shooting RAC 2 has more puzzling I prefer shooting to the end so ratchet and clank 3 is my favourite also rac 3 has the quark vid comic
+ThePumao X Personally, while i like Going Commando more for it's puzzle elements, the controls where awkward to use at first as i played Up your Arsenal first. I would personally put Going Commando as my fav of the series if there was the 3rd person shooter Control setup as an option. It doesn't which hurts it in my opinion. So, RnC3 is my favorite game to play and RnC2 is my favorite game. Also, i don't understand why people think Ratchet Deadlocked ISN'T a main series title. Is it simply because people didn't like it?
The only one of the trilogy I immediately went and played it again. I absolutely loved this game. I thought the 1st one was great, second was awesome and this I loved.

mrroo96 IM RIGHT THERE WITH YOU. FIRST ONLINE FOR ME TOO, HAD ME ADDICTED BRO 😎
i really loved the warzone missions myself. i loved the chaos of the firefights and fighting alongside the Galactic ranger's :P
Yes I loved those missions also
bubbajoe117 4 years late but I really find those mission very boring, I mean we already got enough of those in the annihilation nation and the main game.
I absolutely adore them too! Idk why people always have to complain about them, it's much better than those shitty races in Going commando
@@ratchetclank_fan971 as long as you keep grabbing a boost off the ground , Then you beat the races easily
Every trilogy he reviews:
#1. Not as good as the sequels.
#2. The best one in the series.
#3.not as good as number 2.
OBJECTION! two words. Ace Attorney.
Plus Pikmin too
*****
You were wrong! :D
PWNDpresents What he says is true in most cases tho lol except when it comes to ratchet... 3 is better than 2 but u can debate with Jak and Daxter or Crash Bandicoot
That's actually and odd recurring theme in media. Usually the second in a trilogy ends up the best.
Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal story is the redemption of captain Qwark
Still planning on reviewing the other games in the series?
H
Nope
He should.
THE MULTIṔLAYER WAS FUCKING GLORIOUS
Yeah. Never played online, but I would invite my friend over wnd we would just play R+C3 all day.
YAS MEMORIES
I'm favorite in the trilogy is Going Commando, and my #1 favorite is A Crack in Time. Up Your Arsenal is still awesome, though.
New Zealand was weird with its titles. Our Ratchet and Clank 2 was renamed Locked and Loaded but our Ratchet and Clank 3 was still called Up Your Aresnal :P
3 of my favorite things about UYA were
1. if you got all the VR Training Simulator Trophies and the Collectable Trophies or found the secret teleporter by either finding it legit or changing the time the Insomniac Studios would open
2. the secret code to change the wrench into a double bladed purple lightsaber that had greatly increased damage and range and faster swing speed... A F**KING LIGHTSABER
3. THE PDA! OH.

DanParthenis In tools of destruction he looked like a ripoff toy made with silly putty.
DanParthenis Yea same. He looks like he went through reverse puberty.
According to mike stout the Inferno and Boltx2 crates were put in because one of the devs bet another that they couldn't add in more types of crates.
going commando is my favorite
I think I'm one of the few Ratchet and Clank fans that remembers Angela cross...
Me too.
And Ratchet was made the only Lombax later on. I was like: "WHAT ABOUT ANGELA?! WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO HER?!"
+Kami R. same that was a mind fuck if ever there was one
+Kami R. XD I know, right?
+Sega Rose ❀ I remember her

Hey Antdude, any plans for the rest of the ratchet and clank saga?
I think part of why some people don't enjoy this game as much as the second game is because the second game was a huge leap in quality compared to the first. Going back to Ratchet 1 after playing this one, while it's still a good and simple platformer, Ratchet's movement is very slow and clunky by comparison, which is why Ratchet 2 was such a big game-changer. This might be like, 2 years too late, but I'd like to clear something up:
Ratchet: Deadlocked is canon. Ratchet was scarred and changed from the events of Deadlocked, making him take things more seriously (though still not without his charm of course)
Yeah, it is canon. It actually starts off in the Starship Phoenix from UYA. What I don't get is how Size Matters takes place after Deadlocked.
Considering multiple canon games in the series such as tools of destruction and into the nexus acknowledged deadlocked, it's obviously canon, the only games that aren't are size matters and secret agent clank.
No, they're also canon.

Yeah and I don't like having to GOTTA GO FAST ON A PUZZLE THAT HSVE ALMOST NO SIGNIFICANCE WHATSOEVER and WHO HONESTLY EVEN CARES ABOUT CAPTAIN CORK.
Oh man, I HATED the vidcomics. I loved that you could skip them in Challenge Mode though.
Honestly, I didn't like the way the RYNO upgraded.
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who prefers Going Commando over this game. Still a great game though! Going Commando had more weapons and more bosses (the more the merrier) :D
The second was my favourite too
This game was my WHOLE CHILDHOOD. The amount of times I finished that game is overwhelming. Man, I fucking love this game.
I beat this game a whole lot of times as well.
8:01 that level glitched on me where enemies were invincible and didnt even notice me and I couldnt hit them... they only nloticed me when they got a cheap shot on me and that glitch happened frequently with robot NPC's.
Hey man I love your reviews, I was wondering if you could review a few of these games
1:Ratchet and clank:A crack in time
2:Ratchet and clank:Tools of destruction
3:Infamous 2
4:Uncharted Franchise
Thanks keep up the good work
Ratchet and Clank was my heroes when i was kid! I love them! I have all of the games! Ps2, psp, ps3 and the newest! Im so big fan of them!
Hey everyone the laser tool worked for redirecting lasters from enemies that shoot them
perhaps said person meant that getting the skill points for beating Qwark's time is challenging, and getting all 100 tokens, and the health token
Up your Arsenal holds a firm place in my art because it was my first online console game I delved into. It was a good time, but I actually preferred to play deadlocked online instead.
You can hear Peter Gabriel's Red Rain in one of the button matching tyranoid minigames
This is one balsy name for ratchet and clank
I completely agree with you on this game except I prefer the upgrade system from going commando.
Actually, we can get r&c 3 as up your arsenal in Australia, which ends up getting the same treatment as Europe.
I like the ending bit with Doctor Nefarious! Loved the review as always! :)

Exactly how I feel about them! I'll never get tired of them.
When r u gonna review the rest?
Wait...
Holy shit... is that removed vehicle just a metal slug?
Because it looks a lot like a metal slug...
I gotta say the sewer sandbox part is my favourite in the series for one particular reason and that might be biased.

Games like e.g. Mass Effect are also intense, but easy as fuck, especially if there's no real choice in the multiple choices and any scene comes down to the same end.
It's also for kids, untalented, undeveloped, easy to impress, little humans with simple needs in terms of gameplay...
I agree the death to squishies is sooooo great

Here in Australia, it was called up ur arsenal but had the Europe artwork. Wtf?

My favorite game ever
Are you talking about ratchet 1, because that doesn't freeze when choosing weapons.
Nearly 4 years later and no Future/Spin off reviews, surprise surprise

why didn't ant dude review the other rachet and clank games I would love if he did that
From what I heard, UYA was rushed. Just imagine if company ball busters were to lay off on the devs and just let them do their work.
Recently got the HD Trilogy. Loved the first one and am enjoying 2.
What I don't understand is the removal 'Arsenal' in Europe when we have a frickin football team in London called Arsenal. It can't be that offensive?

Wheres the review for deadlocked "time to blow to blow s××t up
I feel the same way about this game, but I do like the Qurk games
should i buy the ratchet and clank collection for ps vita
With the Ranger missions, some of them are optional.
You gotta do Ratchet deadlocked!
Gladiator in pal -_-
true dat
Yep. Seriously.
Ratchet Deadlocked was good. Not nearly as good as R&C2 or 3 but definitely good. Also had a good co-op mode and best multiplayer IMO
Imagine if Flavio(TTYD) actually had a cameo in other games. He is an explorer, so it'd make sense.
I never played these games just never got them as a kid back when they came out. But you defaintly made me want to try them out.
You really need to. They are awesome!
I loved that game but one time I restarted my game and I got stuck on the first minigame it was scratched to much and now I'm stuck. 😡
FINISH THE MARATHON!!!!!!!!!!!
And at this moment we don't have any clue when the restant of The séries Will be reviewed
That's weird, up your arsenal doesn't do that to me on my collection =/
My personal favourite of the trilogy. But by favourite in the series is Tools of Destruction.
Is there any itches with the HD version
Hey dude! I love these reviews. What ever happened to you doing the other ratchet and clank games? I need them!
N60-storm
Is that a Nintendo reference in a PlayStation game?
It's a huge shame that you never played the online mode. It was amazing (although people found so many glitches they used to cheat with after the many years). Also, you didn't mention "Challenge Mode" (whihc isn't much of a challenge because you carry over upgrades). However, you can get to level V8 for your weapons I believe. Also, that car with the turret does exist in the game. It's in the online mode.
He did mention Challenge mode and the V8 Max level.
Sadly I never got to beat the game because it would always crash on the metropolis level
good job as always!
I won't criticize you for the second one as your favorite, and it's nice that you had your reasons.
I love this game, and it's easily one of the better entries of the series. Though I will be honest, I like Going Commando more.
I'm in nz and mines called ratchet and clank 3 up your arsenal
Size Matters, but I'm pretty sure that and Secret Agent Clank aren't canon.
Spyro Enter the Dragonfly would be one of my top games I want you to review!
Are you going to do the other ratchet and clank games?
I liked Angela, I really did :( My favorite female character in the series.
My favorite R&C games:
1. Deadlocked/Gladiator
2. Going Commando/Locked and loaded
3. a Crack in Time
The Quark comics are challenging?
they give you infinite lives and guns that kill everything in almost 1 hit, and somebody said they were CHALLENGING?!?
I don't understand why everyone says that this is the best Ratchet & Clank game, the first two are WAY better in my opinion.
Maybe because we a have different opinions?
Flash X, extreme gamer I'm not saying that it is bad, I actually think that it's a pretty good game.
But really, what makes it better than Going Commando?
+ThePumao X well I'd say that RaC 3 is for some one who likes shooting RAC 2 has more puzzling I prefer shooting to the end so ratchet and clank 3 is my favourite also rac 3 has the quark vid comic
Yeah. I prefer Going Commando.
It says so on the wiki
Dude, totally wanting to hear your thoughts on E3.
This is my 3rd favorite r and c game.
Hey AntDude, whats your opinion on Insomniac Games collaboration with Microsoft in their new game "Sunset Overdrive".
this game is much better than Going Commando for me.
Agreed!!
Why?!
Make a video on your thoughts on E3, should be interesting to hear.
Your right. He's a Lombax.
Call me boring but I actually loved those War missions as a kid. Good Video btw
can you review the future games?
what about deadlocked?
Please review Ratchet: Deadlocked (the fourth game)!
The only one of the trilogy I immediately went and played it again.
I absolutely loved this game.
I thought the 1st one was great, second was awesome and this I loved.
I have every ratchet and clank game i am a big fan of the series
What about deadlocked???
