    I think it was Jim Butcher who talked about how in his first ever convention panel appearance, he went on a rant about how much of the opening to Lord of the Rings ought to be cut out, and it just started a giant debate. Then I believe Neil Gaiman said something about how it would be quite difficult for the book to be published in the modern market. Interesting to think about how the trend-setter would fare much worse if it was published today because of the very trends it set, and how the industry has changed so much since then.
    Also, pretty sure if Tolkien was writing today, he'd join the Rothfuss and Martin club of having thousands of impatient people shouting at him to hurry up.

    • @kopicat2429
      @kopicat2429 3 роки тому +96

      That's how it is for most trend setters though. Because that trend still changes over time into something new and different. Almost 70 years later? Is there honestly anything at all that would not face challenges if something that old was re created today? No matter how popular or game changing? Especially a written medium?

      @@DimaRakesah The thing is this reductive view of her is just what has been propagated by the movies. She was still of the race of men and as such was not the one proficied to bring the doom of the witch king that was Merry who stabbed him with the barrow blade.
      So Eowyn actually does not serve that role at all. I am not super qualified to say what it is but in my understanding it is more along the lines of exploring the character of someone trapped in a role they can't fulfill and never wanted. And how living in that horrible way means even fighing the witch king is less awful an experience than being trapped.
