    How to Locate an IP Camera on Your Network
    This video teaches viewers how to locate IP network cameras on their LAN (Local Area Network). To locate an IP camera shipped by a manufacturer in static IP mode, you must first switch the gateway of the PC being used to locate the camera to the same gateway as the camera. Most cameras, such as Hikvision and Dahua, use the 192.168.1.XXX gateway.

    Great advice here. Now I properly understand how IP addresses work. Spent hours yesterday trying to get my new Hikvision camera set up. Watched this video and then realised that the ISP gateway IP must be compatible with the IP address of the camera. I changed the IP address of the camera toi make sure the router could see it, and bingo - it worked! Thanks so much for this video :-)

    Thanks for this excellent and clear video. My challenge right now is locating an older ip camera on my network. I can see video from the camera via a P2P app but cannot talk to the camera to confirm its settings nor locate the camera via an ip address.

    I have a HikVision NVR and a few Chinese cameras. The image quality is superb, but I can't configure it's functionality.

    Thats all fine and good but like you said you already know the default IP address the camera comes with but what if you have a used PoE camera and you don't have a clue as to what the IP address is then what do you do?

  • @megadun2610
    @megadun2610 Рік тому +7

    Looking at the tutorial,its quite clear you are demonstrating how to make the cam discoverable on your network assuming you know its default static ip add.
    But the video was supposed to demonstrate to us how to find a camera that its ip address is unknown to you,so the video doesn't seem to address that problem.

    • @WentworthCCTV
      @WentworthCCTV  Рік тому +1

      The title is actually “locating an IP camera ON YOUR NETWORK”. That means on the same gateway. So the video is exactly what we said it is. That said, The method for finding a camera not in DHCP (off your network) is dependent on manufacturer. For Hikvision SADP Tool will do it. For Dahua it’s their config tool. I have videos on both of them.

      By using the manufacturers configuration tool. Hikvision is SADP and Dahua has Config Tool. Use those to locate your cameras ip address and gateway. Hikvision is generally 192.168.1.64 and Dahua 192.168.1.108 although many new cameras are starting to be shipped in DHCP.

    • @WentworthCCTV
      @WentworthCCTV  Рік тому +1

      The camera may have changed it’s IP address if it’s in DHCP in network setting. When you plug into NVR, it is plug and play so NVR programs it. But when it’s not plugged directly in to NVR it is manually added. So I would plug a laptop into PoE switch and do a SADP scan to locate its IP addresses. Make sure they are the same in NVR channel settings.

      That is the first time I have heard that one. If you have a router, you can do an air survey and see anything with a wireless card and look for cameras. Of course, it could be a neighbor with a perfectly legit camera in their yard or in their home. Hard to determine if it is watching you. Could go old school and look for the red IR illuminators at night.
