    Dial 988 • EP316 w/Colin Fickes | Drama Queens
Joy, Hilarie and Sophia recap one of the most pivotal episodes of One Tree Hill - “With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept.” As emotional as the episode that aired was, what went on behind the scenes was impossible to describe, until now.
The Drama Queens are joined by Colin Fickes who played Jimmy Edwards as they discuss the powerful making of the show and what it meant on a larger, real-life scale.
So much we didn’t know and a reminder of things we need to remember...It’s truly an episode you won’t want to miss.
Original Air Date: September 18, 2022

I LOVE how the girls gave this episode the respect it deserved.
No jokes or ads but a simple discussion on an issue that plagues the world sadly EVEN TO THIS DAY.

I didn’t know people skipped this episode. I’ve never skipped this one. I think it’s very important to watch -over and over and over again.

They were completely right to say that this episode is top 5 or maybe even top three in their series. It’s completely burned in my memory. When Sophia started talking about Jimmy beating his chest and had to stop because she broke down, I remember that moment exactly because that was my exact reaction

Always a sad episode but it’s one of the best. I’ve never skipped it. All 4 of them (along with the rest of the cast) gave stellar performances in this episode.

I think that everyone was incredibly brave to address this topic and take on the emotions, the fear, and the trauma that goes with it. I was across the street from Marjorie Stoneman Douglas High School when a teen shooter killed 17 people. I know how this has affected me, and I cannot imagine, even though it was a tv show, how this affected all of you young adults. I've watched this episode many times, and you all were so brave!

I saw this episode when I was 14 years old and I can say it is the most important episode of One Tree Hill and maybe of any Teen centered show that has come out. It opened up my eyes and started a dialogue among my friends about the effects of bullying & mental health that had been kind of taboo up to this point. It's a hard episode to watch but so important. I'm glad now that I am rewatching this series with my nephew (who is 15) and talk about hard topics that he is going through in school. Thank you for this podcast episode.

This episode hits differently not just storyline wise but specifically because of what was happening at that time. I am not American but I was the age of those kids when Columbine happened and I remember seeing people at my school reading the newspaper the very next day. The front of the paper has never left my mind. Sitting on the opposite side of the world I felt so sick to my stomach in a way that I have never felt before. I will forever feel sadness and empathy for those kids and their families on that dark day. Thankyou for delivering a professional, respectful emotional and thoughtful discussion.

Heavy sigh...such an absolutely beautiful performance from Colin and all three ladies in this episode. When the podcast first aired this, I did watch the episode but have skipped it during many of my rewatches just because it hurts so much. I wouldn't want to hear anyone else dive into this subject matter besides the four of you. Just like this. Thank you so much for your vulnerability and courage to have this conversation. Love to you all ❤❤

I'm not American and I wasn't alive for Columbine, so it's probably hard for me to understand the effect these storylines have on you, even the little time I went to school in US the drills didn't affect me the same as they did other kids, but as someone in the industry I'm really glad how the girls showed this wonderful actor the respect he deserved even tough he didn't find the same fame as them. I was really impressed by his performance and I agree, he should have won an Emmy.

This episode was tough! I was in high school when the Santa Fe,Tx event occurred and our school is only 10 miles away from it so we were also placed on lockdown. The fear we had that we were next was just terrifying. Do better America😔

I always think this and the Degrassi episodes leading to that school shooting need to be played in schools. I've felt this since I was a teen myself.
Also, I WAS the kid people in schools thought that just because I'm bullied, because I didn't look happy all the time, because I was a loner, kids in both my high schools spread rumors about me being the one who will bring a gun to school and some only pretended to be nice to me in the hallways just so they didn't "die".
As someone who also lived in a post-9/11 world, I felt I could never escape the image that anyone who looked like me, we were always going to be terrorists, we had no future and for 5 years after high school, my life did stop.

I remember fighting with so many people about this episode because I have depression and while I would never do what he did, I understood why he did it. I’m disabled and was bullied in middle school. Can’t lie, wish I would have done this to my bullies for what they did to me. I remember there was so much fighting about ‘whose fault it was’ and I do agree Lucas and mouth may have left Jimmy behind and should have checked on him before but no one can really decide whose fault it is or is it anyone’s fault?

This episode is the toughest to watch, but as much as it is uncomfortable, it's imperative. The show is fiction, but the situation is still a reality, especially in 2024.

I love you guys!! I have been watching one tree hill since my sophomore year in 2016, I am now a mother of Irish twins a daughter and son they are 2/3 years old. I love the way you guys are talking about your parenting skills, what to do to teach your kids all the different emotions and rights and wrongs. It just sucks because it does seem like there is only so much you can do because there are a lot of parents out there that don’t care about their children or pay attention to what they do which is truly sad. Or the parents are even not the greatest people and teaches wrongs to their kids. With how the world is today it definitely worries me for the future of my kids. There has been a lot of bad things going on in my town with the education system with things going on in the schools that shouldn’t even be happening like not just shootings, my sister sees a fight in school almost everyday or teachers not being good to children. I already have so many trust issues with anyone watching my kids, I’m scared putting them in school when they turn 4.

I do skip this episode. It’s just very heavy and I’m not always ready for it. However I will say that the episode shortly thereafter when they are at Rachel’s parents cabin and all trying to heal is probably my most favorite episode of OTH. It’s when everyone gets lighter again, the sun comes back out, love is prevailing through the darkest of times, different bonds are being formed bc of tragedy. Even Karen is trying to fight to get back to herself. It’s a lovely episode. But like I said- I do skip that one a lot, and I skip the one afterwards when they have that party in the hallway and Rachel tells mouth she released the time capsule. It’s all just so heartbreaking. The aftermath too. ❤❤❤ also I’m a little older and I think I was a freshman when Columbine happened. :( I’ll never forget seeing the live footage replay for days, or the erroneous reports coming in from CNN. They had crazy numbers of students dead; and they showed the wrong people being arrested that day, and just a lot of incorrect info. I’ll also never forget being so scared, and how it changed school forever, for everyone. All the “bomb threats” that followed in the weeks afterwards; and just the overall reactions. Literally a shift in culture. 💙💙🖤🖤
