  • Anyone on a quest for the perfect delay will eventually try a Strymon. There's a lot of choices but I settled on the DIG digital delay. It has most of the usual features for a mid-to-high level delay such as tap, filter, and mono or stereo input. The dual-function knobs are a bit annoying, but bearable. Overall the unit has a really solid and sure feel. Here I'm testing it with the Erica Synths DB-01 synth, which it pairs with most happily.
The first half of the video has a fair amount of talking, the second half is all audio.
    0:00 Intro blather
    0:20 Stereo to mono input
    1:02 Basic specs
    2:50 Secondary functions

    4:50 Tap input choices
    5:54 The filter

    7:40 Modulation
    9:54 Unsync delay 2
    10:35 Unsync repeats

That is one amazing demo man, came here for the DIG but now I also want a DB-01. Subscribed!

Thanks. And yes, the DB-01 is a great little machine. Also makes a good mono sequencer for other machines. So good I bought two. And the DIG: thick and smooth. I ended up selling mine, then bought it again when the regret set in. So it's a member of the "bought twice" club.

I really appreciate your vids. I've said it before but you're the reason I didn't sell/trade my DB-01 after my original gripes with the lack of CC/envelope control (workarounds to which you showed me). Now it's basically core to my sound and is an incredible bass from a production perspective. I have no trouble making it impressively concise in the sub 100 Hz region, and the mid-high fuzz and bite cuts through dense synth laden soundscapes. Not to mention it's perfect for my experimental electronic music, not just some one trick pony. I'd love to send you some of it if you'd wanna hear.

Hi Kevin, would love to hear some! You could post links here or send me more info via my site: richarddehove.com/contact/
The DB-01 really is a fantastic little machine. The polivoks filter was such a great choice.

DIG is great. I had one on my DB for a while. Personally I prefer the Micro pitch delay pedal on the Bassline.

I've bought and sold so many delays - it's a real problem :( None of them seem quite right. What I really want now is something with a BPM readout but they all tend to be big expensive workstation models. So you're using the new Eventide? Best features that you like?

Did you find the perfect delay yet? I have the Zen delay and it’s very nice but I’m thinking about the Meris LVX now. What do you think?

I'm still a long way from peace, enlightenment or the perfect delay :/ The DIG has at least survived regular purges. The Zen is gone (which I bought after I sold my first one) because I found it strangely hard to sync. I'll sure miss that stereo field and overdrive though... The RE-202 Space Echo I sold because it was really just a mono delay despite having stereo in and out - which seemed weird. The Amplitude X-Time was just awful in every way, not least because it couldn't display BPM. I'm considering the Free the Tone Future Factory, but it's quite similar to the DIG. Otherwise maybe the El Capistan V2? I have watched a few videos about the LVX but am currently very wary of menus. All this buying and selling is an awful money-drain as well :(

@@RichardDeHove Ah yes it’s the same for me.. I don’t even use the midi to try because it just doesn’t feel right. Maybe the LVX is the way to go… it seems to have so much cool stuff. The Zen is still kind of special.. but your almost need an extra hand to use it at the same time as the DB-01 😁

@@RichardDeHove but I do agree about the menu… but it also gives some benefits of being easy to tweak and understand what is happening. I think I will go for it… will give the Zen one last jam then sell it tomorrow and opt for the LVX. Yes I have been buying and selling a lot lately as well… luckily the Zen was already second hand and I will not loose anything by selling it so that’s great.

@@Bobo Weird about the timing isn't it? I tried to use the Zen on its longest delay as a mild frippertronics-loopy thing but couldn't get a really solid tempo lock. That was when I decided to sell (the second time!). If I was going mono I really like the look of the Suhr Discovery Delay - but the price :/ Now you make me look again at the LVX :D

@@RichardDeHove it is weird… i feel like I need to tap in the tempo from time to time.

Did you sell the Zen delay to purchase this? Which one do you prefer? Many thanks form UK

The Zen definitely stays, but I did sell the Boss DD-8, the DuoTime and the Rubberneck. The DuoTime is probably the most like the Dig but felt a bit "loose" somehow. The display was a bit small to read easily as well. The Zen and the Dig are very different beasts. I love the overdrive on the Zen and the feedback tends to smear things out to a reverb sort of feel. The Dig with its two delays lines is a lot more precise and sharp and can get much more complex patterns happening. The Zen is definitely more fun to play - nice big knobs and no mystery functions.

Hallo Dieter.
