- CEC's Senior Service Technician, and oil furnace expert, Steve Mehl, walks through the basics of oil furnace maintenance with two of our up and coming technicians. In this training video, Steve explains the process of cleaning the oil burner assembly, including replacing the nozzle, and properly setting the electrodes. Good oil furnace technicians are hard to find these days, so we are very fortunate to have Steve here to pass his knowledge on to our other technicians. Love these Beckett burners..Bought a Spirit (made by thermopride) low boy oil furnace last year it has the newer Beckett AFG Burner..Great unit and very easy to maintain and reliable..
This is why no one touches my equipment but me. Both electrodes were a little far back--so let's leave them there.

What brand is this ignition transformer, friend?
14k to 20k volts on electric igniters. 10k for the old iron cores

I have a question. What reason would the wires that attach to the switch beside the furnace would be spliced into four segments?
Was that part 1 of 4?
Now I don't have to call the tech to maintain my system and like they said on running scared it's not the volts it's the amps that get you
Am i the only one that notices all those Orbs flying around? Seems not only do you have a heating issue going on there but you also have a few Ghost issues also.. My next call would be to Ghost Adventures !

I had our oil furnace & AC service same company for 17 years. Everything was working fine until he touched it. "He asked me are you having problems with primary relay"? I said no. I think somehow he short it my primarily relay and charge me $185.00 plus 95.00 total $280.00 It was working fine before he came that's my argument. Thinking about finding another company.
Whats the white things on the rods, can i over tighten them...

I pay A'ls oil every year for the contract for a cleaning and tune up. I am having a new Roth oil tank installed, to the tune of $2800.00. The tanks are an import from Germany!
The blue wire nuts should be taped.
Don't do it. Those Roth oil tanks SUCK.
I’m surprised a seasoned old timer like you doesn’t have a dedicated nozzle removal tool and still using box end wrenches.
Because nozzle removal tools SUCK! Nothing beats two open end wrenches.
Poor sound quality made it difficult to hear and understand. It would really help if the camera could see exactly what is being done, right from the beginning.

My boiler is heating the water but not my house what could be the problem
Air
Low water pressure.
Air in the system.
Circulator could be dead.
Aquastat may not be sending voltage to the circulator.
A bad zone valve if you have them.
Thermostat problem.
Etc.........
That's 3/4" and 9/16 to remove nozzle. They do make a nozzle wrench that makes this easier.
You're both wrong. It is either a 3/4 inch or 11/16 wrench for the nozzle adapter and always 5/8 wrench for the nozzle. And those nozzle wrenches are junk.
Not to mention he said 5/16” Twice
Ya do not touch the furnace itself and test the igniter coils lol I got hit hard thru the chest with those 10,000v because I'm not an expert. Even tho it doesn't take an expert to know not to touch metal while messing with electricity. Make sure you're paying attention unlike me
I'm an expert....and have been hit 3 times. The most recent time, I was sitting on a bucket and it knocked me off it. I actually had to laugh at myself since nobody was there to laugh at me.

10,000V is nothing. I've been shocked by automotive electrical systems, which is up to 40,000V. It was more annoying than dangerous.
You mentioned that the pump is supposed to hold the pressure. Presumably you need to do something to release the pressure prior to disconnecting the oil line from the burner assembly. How is that done?
Turn off the power. The pump only puts out pressure when it is running.
Like all the other videos.. You are explaining what you are doing but your not explaining what the part is and camera shots are useless. You need to "dumb it down on what parts you have, what is the setting, Not putting you down but your talking on the video like your talking to a seasoned jouneyman.
If they need to “dumb it down” that much for you then go back to eating crayons and let someone else handle it
