Hey so there’s this small UA-camr. I don’t know him personally or really at all but I know he’s working on cars and loves barn finds because of you. He is currently working on a 1975 trans am firebird. Before he decided to do UA-cam he worked on the car with his father. His father later sadly committed suicide. Even though he doesn’t know me I know his channel and he has my condolences. After the passing of his father he started the UA-cam channel and has been working on the car. Even though I don’t really know him I think he deserves more support for what he’s been through. His UA-cam channel is named midnightTA. Even though you’ll probably never see this I still thought that I should let you know.
@@chasejansmacdj2029 I'll give him a follow👍
After going through all of these demodifications on this car with all said and done I don’t think those wheels really suit the car anymore and it would probably bring a lot more money with the stock wheels
I'm sorry I'd have left the radio head unit. All the extra speakers could go and return to stock but those old monsoon things were crap to start with. They get even worse when you consider they don't have bluetooth or anything else.
I’m not an F Body Car Guy and have never owned one but this one made me a fan of them!
If I were to buy it I’d put most of the mods back on. Not the stickers and name plates, but you’d have to give all the stereo stuff w/it and I’d certainly return your beloved radio to you.
Peter is an absolute gem 💎. He's always so happy and full of positive energy!
Yeap, he needs a red shirt
Both of them are!
Honestly both of these guy's are. Just came across this channel recently and I've been binge watching them nonstop.
Nice hair too
I want a Peter for Christmas
Fun stereo fact: It's actually very common to have no rear speakers in Sound Quality builds. It is much harder to have a proper sound stage when the audio is also coming from behind you. Subs are fine anywhere basically because bass isn't directional, but speakers actually can worsen the sound quality if the placement isn't good.
I'd imagine any problems are more pronounced in a coupe or sedan, versus a suv or van.
@@macgroober1396 Depends on the exact speaker placement really. An SUV with speakers in the rear doors would be more problematic than a sedan or coupe with speakers in the rear deck. It's all about the time it takes for a sound to reach you and the volume it's at when it does. It's a pretty interesting rabbit hole to go down.
As a Car Audio installer back in the days of Soundstream, A/D/S PPI etc this is correct Soundstage is better when eliminating Rear Fill...
That sounds like statement bose would make. Lol...
True! One of the "all time best" Sq car literally had 6 speakers. 4 up front and 2 subs in the trunk.
My 02 WS6 same color with 22,500 miles is fully stock but definitely going to give it a nice polish and ceramic coating because it looked fantastic. Nice job Alex and Peter.
My 2001 Ws6 has 317,000 miles and still running strong.
LSC - My fav automotive channel out... Love the complete builds and peter... Peter really makes the show run! lol
Gotta back a fellow LS lover... :)
I have my LS2 '05 GTO, got rid of my C6 LS3, but have an LT1 C7...
The best part of your channel is listening to you talk about your radio. That sums it up the passion and the love for these cars and all cars really. It was awesome because I own a 95 trans am with the factory radio and I do the same exact thing. It's just good to know I'm not alone .... I Love the channel
The baffles in the hood scoops are there to keep excess water from directly getting to the air filters. The hood is functional and was made to be driven in all weather conditions.
Yep exactly how would he not know since he's had a car like this for many years that baffles my mind
@@neilbrown82 it's called water injection in aviation! Lol
Exactly
The hp difference between regular and non ram air hoods ( Trans-Am vs WS6 or firehawk and z28 vs SS dont get the extra hp from the hood. the hp is derived from the exhaust and if u have a modified raised airbox or an slp lid ( some came factory) thats where intake adds power. But. They look cool. As does a spoiler that dont do much except hang on and maybe add a few pounds during max speed run.
@@neilbrown82we were both baffled by this revelation
Those WS-6 TA's really are one of the meanest looking cars in existence. Pontiac really went all out in the looks department knowing the F-Body platform was on its way out.
The 4th gens started in the early 90's. As late as 2001 they were talking about changing the looks of the Trans Am because, as then VP Bob Lutz said, "A friend of mine said the Trans Am looks like a school yard bully that wants to take your lunch. It looks too mean." Which shows you how out of touch parts of GM were, but I think GM was always waffling back and forth about the life of the 4th gens.
During the same talk at the 2001 Grand Prix Gathering, Lutz also said they were going to make an LS1 powered AWD Grand Prix "...because we can." The next year they had the prototype for it...but it never got produced.
a/d/s speakers were a huge upgrade back in the day - you might want to keep them in your car. Just look at the magnet size difference. The 300i a/d/s were an upgrade for many 3-series BMWs.
I thought the same when he did that
a/d/s may not have been best known for their speakers, but their amps were spectacular.
Dude, you're right!
Good call. 👍
I agree I’m more for a clean “stockish” look. The 99-02 ws6 looks amazing on its own! Keep
Up the good work.
I love these cars. This year I bought a 98 Firebird WS6 while getting an oil change on my daily. So $11,000 dollars later I had my oil changed! It is in premier condition!
Hang onto it man.
Not many '98 WS6s were made.
While searching for an RS4, I saw one with buttons so warn down the white lettering was gone, and you could see the lens of the light behind. It also looked like someone had dug their nails in while picking at them. I immediately knew it wasn't my car. It's a small thing, but speaks volumes for how well the car was cared for.
It's very nostalgic watching the F Body videos. I had a 97 LT1 Z28 purchased at 18 and did lots of mods to over 5 years. My wife had a 01 Z28 for 10 years. We even met on a Camaro Forum resulting with her moving across the country to be together.
that’s a dope story.
Wish I could find a good wife that would be willing to move across the country for me my soon to be ex wife wouldn't hardly cross the room for me she was an extreme selfish bitch. Bad mistake on my part.
Peter has such happy genuine smile, it’s contagious. Love the builds, keep em coming!

When I re-enlisted in the Navy back in October of 1990 I went home to Dayton, Ohio and purchased a 1991 Camaro RS with the 305 in Ultra Blue Metallic and T-Tops. The drive back to San Diego, CA (where I was stationed and have stayed ever since) was awesome! Only had a cassette tape deck, and any time I could actually pick-up a local radio station it made it all the more better.
Truly love this video, I currently have a 02 WS6 red with 54k on it. While newer cars are more heavier and more computers are involved with the driving experience, not with this one, it's just you and the car. Thanks for sharing captain.
I also have a red 02 ws6 but with 117k miles lol. Still in really good condition though and running great!
@@str8upkills60 cool stuff
Definitely a great example of a T/A don’t see many around like this! I think you will get a good amount of money for this one! And returning it to factory maybe there will be a collector who will buy it!
Having worked in the car stereo world, I was halfway wanting to leave the 4 Guage power wire in the car, until you pulled apart the splice. That butt connector had been crimped with wire cutters, prob because they did not have a real crimper for it. Glad you returned this old bird to near original. The subs looked nicely done (other than the crap terminal cups), hope they are good enough for your white bird.
That butt connector..a fire waiting to happen..
Don't understand why they didn't use one piece of cable from amp to battery.. especially high current cabling.
Anyways that install looked good.
Nicely done..
Didn't think the wire for the sub they pulled out looked thick enough...
I used to use monster cable many a years ago..
I've seen thin speaker cable used as sub woofer cable🙈
@@stuartd9741 yes, horrible crimp. Should have had a power distribution block to split to 4 ga off to the two 8 ga for the amps. Some of the stereo install looked good, other than the small wires to the subs (although a very short run), and the cheesy terminal cups, but some of the rest was very questionable or amateurish. We've all seen worse...
Lol at the start of the speaker amp CD player removal I was thinking why???
Then I saw that terrible power cable and was horrified. You defo made the right decision.
Is funny tho cause it looks like multiple people installed the sound system quality work mixed with flame burst potential.
I love Peter insisting you eat the old candy lol! You guys are so fun together. Def the right choice to keep your car and return this one to more stockish
Stock is (in most situations) better. The only exception is adding to engine/suspension/braking performance or correcting factory design/engineering shortcomings.
Solid resto 😍 incredible example of that body style, and whoever buys it will definitely have one of the best collector level transams. Such a great color too
Easily had a dozen of these over the years. Had a 1999 Camaro SS in NBM. 6 speed hardtop car, loved it! Sold it for a 2001 Trans Am WS6 that I had until I got a 67 Camaro with a 327 and 4 speed. Sold that so my wife could get a new SUV for her and the kids and picked up a 1993 Formula that I did a 98+ front end conversion with a WS6 hood and T/A hatch. Snagged a 73 Formula from the original owner and am restoring that with my dad. Still have the 93 and 73. Love these F-Bodies, I will always have at least one in the garage! Both of yours look awesome!
You did right by that car. It's much better off now. I was a Pontiac tech when those cars were new so I remember seeing them on the show room floor.
stunning ! absolutely STUNNING ! i had a 96 black WS6 6M . had to sell in in 2003 (due to a prego wife)for 12k . the body lines on these cars were phenomenal ! work of art ! how the hell did you bag it for 13k ?? nice profit headed your way ! my prediction is 22.5 k . BTW your stereo EQ was set the best way 👈
This the only channel where I can actually sit through a long video like this but honestly I want them to be longer!
I have an 02 WS6 owned it since 2006. Bought it with 23k miles currently has 40k. It was stock until a few years ago. I did CNC ported ls6 heads, torquer v2 cam, monster twin disk clutch. FIC 525cc injectors, longtubes, slp loudmouth, slp intake and wheels tires and suspension mods. I'll never sell it!
I had a 1993 Firebird Formula, 6 speed, t-tops (which was rare for the early lt1 cars) and leather interior, and the kicker it was painted in Gray Purple Metallic. It was a pretty rare car. I sold it to buy my 2009 Corvette ZR1.
I had a 94 z28 in that spec.
Graduating highschool in the 90s and growing up 20 minutes from the GM plant in Lordstown Ohio. It brings back some serious memories seeing how gigantic those stock radios were. And at the time they were pretty damn cool looking.
Wow. So nice to see a great video of a great car. I have two trans ams. A 88 GTA and a 96 TA. You inspired me to do the Brembo brake up grade in my 96. Love the channel. Keep doing real world builds. Thanks.
Been watching this channel for the past few months, quality content guys! I’m a S197 Mustang guy but the Trans Am WS6 is growing on me. Nice work!
I respect this “build” or “de-build” so much. I drove from DFW to Montana to buy a 98 S10 SS. It was stock but the previous owner painted some of the plastic panels (mirrors, door handles, wiper cowl etc) I spent the last couple
Months finding oem parts to replace the painted parts. The truck is perfect now.
Owned many many fbodies over the years. Current have a 2000 WS6. Your car should pull the mid teens all day.
Love the WS6. It's always been one of my favorites.
That's a beauty! You guys did a great job on this one. I bought a new Gold Firebird in 1985. Not a T/A, but it was beautiful anyway. It had the 305 V-8 and I enjoyed it for several years before transitioning to a late '70s 911 with 10k miles.
So glad Peter is a full time part of the channel now. Alex, well done for recognizing his value and being open to the addition to the channel!
It’s a different story when a car has been with you for almost a quarter of a century so I can see exactly why you would keep it. But me, I’d just keep both.
Wonderful work, as always, Peter & Alex! Those ADS speakers (Audio & Digital Systems) are actually very good components. You guys are the best of the best!
Upvote this. Keep the ADS speakers in your white TA
@@bobgodd Upvote again, A/D/S quality components.
The WS6 or the Firehawk is my bucket list car. That "last of the breed" glue residue looks like the Black Panther head. I've done some "ricey" stuff... Straight pipe, fire extinguisher on the A-pillar, huge race car-like stickers, shifting an automatic transmission like a manual, clear tail lights, (2) 15" subs in a compact car, yellow wire loom and longer radiator deflector under the car. I was bad.
I wouldn't pass up on a regular Trans Am pretty much the same car minus the hood and that Ram air box and those last of the breed badges were an officially licensed accessory that lots of GM dealers sold
@@neilbrown82 if i get my hands on a trans am i must get the WS6 kit or a OEM+ kit from RK motorsports
I've had two Firebirds. My first one was a 1968 with a 400 and powerglide and no other options.
My second was a 1967 Firebird "Sprint 6" with an overhead cam straight 6 cylinder with a 4 barrel, factory dual exhaust, power disk brakes, posi, factory traction bars, 4-speed, AC, PS, etc... She was loaded to the gills. Rust got the best of her and I miss that car more now than ever.
Alex you do need 2! Don't lie to yourself.
Alex, the WS6 also came with wider rims/tires. The Ram Air is functional, especially if you live somewhere where there's little rain (I'm in Vegas) and you cut out the rain baffles. Those rain baffles keep the air filter dry by catching the water and sending it out little drain holes. I used a dremel to remove them and you could see my K&N filter through the hood. BTW, the SS and the WS6 hoods are completely different. The SS isn't a straight shot no matter what you do. It's just a fresh air intake. My buddy and I put a vacuum gauge on my airbox after removing the baffles and there was less vacuum in the box at high speeds with the engine at the same rpm and load, according to HP Tuners datalog.
The Volant is a good upgrade too. It directs more airflow into the intake than even SLP's Blackwing.
That's my dream car! T-Top, 6 speed, just perfection!
Great content fellas 👏 I owned a 94 Z-28 in 2000 right after graduating h.s. it was my favorite car i owned right next to my dream car I had a 87 Buick Grand National with 47k original miles. Kept it stock on the outside with dark tint added. Just a few bolt ons that were a must under the hood. The best mod was a easy cold air intake it made that Turbo blow off sound so Bad Ass I loved it!
What happened to it? I wish we had one on the channel 😜
I don't know if anyone else here has mentioned it but you can get a brand new leather Hurst shift knob that you were talking about earlier in this video from Hawk's Motorsports for $199. They look exactly like the originals and i plan to pick one up for my 99 SS here sometime soon. Awesome video as always guys.
I rarely comment n upriver UA-cam videos. I LOVE this one. So entertaining as well as informative. I follow many automotive youtubers. Yours is my favorite. Thanks, Alex and Peter!
Love the channel! Very informative and no trendy b.s. You guys are a rarity these days! Bravo!
Eraser wheels for a drill will be your best friend to remove the double sided tape. They are great for removing old damaged tape style pin stripe without damaging the paint.
Wow.. great video Alex! The ws6 looked very aggressive from factory, you did the right thing to bring back to its original state. I’m sure its new owner will appreciate the factory look.
Always happy to see more f body content!
Working on my first one right now!
I've got a 91 firebird in much MUCH worse condition than either of those, but she's slowly coming together and I wouldn't trade it for anything
living the dream then buddy gm (previously vauxhall in my country) are so underestimated and to me are a true drivers car.
Alex fantastic job, stock is the only way to go with the front end. Wish I had the money to bid on it. First Trans Am I had I bought new was in 1976, white on white 400 four speed. Loved the car until my wife was driving it and some guy T boned it, 14,000 miles were on it. Your giving me the itch to find another one,
Huge fbody fan. While the third Gen Irocs are my favorite, the body lines on the ws6 paired with the honeycomb tail lights is iconic. I would love to have another one, looks like whoever gets this one will surely enjoy it.
Peter is legit the best hype man money can buy 😂 great video! Glad I’m not the only one prefers original-how it came from the factory, cars.
Alex, you and Peter make such a great team! Keep up the good work and don't freeze your tailbone off this winter.
This a gorgeous car! I've always wanted a WS6 4th Gen in pewter silver color! That blue IS BEAUTIFUL though! Almost reminds me of my 89 Olds 98 Touring Sedan in Black Sapphire Pearl color. Had a Black 88 GTA 5.7L WS6 TA back in the early 2000s, miss that car so much... would do burnouts ans donuts FOR DAYS! Wish I could post a picture of it. Ran 14.4 second quarter miles with just a tune and exhaust, which was good for those L98 TPIs
Last year I picked up a 2002 Z28 6M w/47k myself! Drives like new. I see the auction is now at 17k+ already, congrats on the pending proceeds from sale Alex. 😎
I love the trans am content this is what brought me to your channel! I have a 1995 trans am right now but I’ve owned 7 total f body’s and they are great cars!
That thing under hood was a wireless immobilizer for the Directed alarm system. When you armed the alarm it sent a signal to a module that was usually connected to the fuel pump or starter circuit. This way if you were trying to steal the car you couldn’t just trace the disable wire from the alarm directly to a relay that was tapped in somewhere and bypass it how most systems are done.
Still own a 79, WS6, Trans Am with 403 Olds, turbo 350 trans. 2.73 gears. Less than 40k miles. Owned since 81
I’ll take factory/stock any day! Great work Peter and Alex!
Alex actually prefer stock looking vehicles so In my humble opinion I think what you are doing is perfectly fine. And, its cool your inc all the aftermarket acc that your removing. Back in the day I built an 88 Monte Carlo SS with a 383 Stroker small block and kept it all factory stock inside and outside. I surprised many a Fox body 5.0 Mustang owner with that car. A sleeper SS. Enjoy your videos! Say hello to Peter!
Guys another great mini series on the TA! At first I was like leave the tunes intact but after seeing the hack job on the wiring- you definitely made the right move yankin out the clutter and welding cable going through the door jam 😜. I'm with you on the factory clean look, yes its subjective but shows way nicer this way. Noice car and it looks like your doing well on Mods & Miles! Best of luck and btw can't wait to see the Chevy van project 😎😎👍👍
Great Job! love these cars. I owned a WS6 2002 Trip Black Vert Auto. Speaking from experience, you can't beat them for the money. Good luck on the sale.
The car is gorgeous. I'm with you that color combo was my favorite. 16 year old me had dealer broucher photos on my wall of a WS6 of that combo. Never ended up getting one, but had 2 95 Camaro's. One was a sad 3.4 and the other a Z28. Both manual's. Probably shouldn't have bought the z28, it was a 225k mile oil leaking basket case. No matter how much I fixed more things popped up, but I learned a lot from it and also how not to buy used cars lol.
I had a 95 z28 and I totally cut the hole for the fuel pump. 😅 So much easier. Glad to see you making that low mileage car that I am totally jealous of back to stock.
Heck yeah, I’ve been looking forward to you guys giving us a follow-up on the blue car!
hey. love your vids . have a 95 TA restoring now along with a 68 442 Olds and a 69 Camaro Z/28. my husband is retired from the automotive industry and is retired. watches your channel all the time, thinks we may have met you years ago at union grove. keep up the good work!
What a GORGEOUS car! The only model I liked a tad better was the Firestone Firehawk edition. Oh, and no lip! And I think you need just a couple more pics for the Ms&Ms listing. 😂
You guys have been motivating me to work on my Corvette. I love it 😀 😍
Alex looked at Peter like he was the enemy when Peter said he never thought to only touch the corner of the buttons 🤣
Alex as a guy who remembers these cars from the era the fact that you are Italian and like these that much makes so much sense.
Alex while you’re near the white WS6 installing the audio system in stall some sound deadening it will be worth it…
When I look at a vehicle and it has a aftermarket audio system in it the first thing I look at is the power and grounds, I look at the fuse to see if it’s hanging etc, if undersized cable was used and if wire and harnesses were cut
Whenever I think about modifying my car, I try to consider how poorly whatever mods I do will age with it. Thank you for bringing this car back to its true self Edit: especially getting that front lip off - people actually wanted that to stay?
I think the same about tattoos... especially on the face. lol
I said keep the front lip.
Only because it was part of the whole kit/package.
But looking at the front with it removed looks ok.
Honestly, that lip wasn't too bad.
I personally wouldn't go for it, but it was tasteful.
Great video. Sweet detailing; made that car look fine.
Directed is the parent company for Clifford who also own Viper. That battery was most likely for the siren, a backup in case a would be theif disconnected the main battery to shut the alarm up.
The little black box in the cabin was most probably a tilt sensor to sense if the car is being raised, for example if someone wanted to steal the wheels or tow the car away.
All true, but the first video for this showed the key remote and this had the old screen that showed temps and open doors and remote start etc. I think that directed box was the transmitter to the remote.
This is best video out there on this specific job! Hands down. I know because I searched everywhere for weeks. Very well done. Thank You so much!
I agree putting the car back to close to stock as you can get is the way to go. You should have kept your radio and picked one up for the Blue TA.
Sad to see it go! Such a nice car 😭
I have had a 85 berlinetta, 91 350 Z28, a 99 slick beak TA and currently have a 92 RS and a 2015 SS. I loved them all.
I appretiate the hell out of this. Imma bone stock guy and firmly believe in buying the car I want with factory options. I don't have anything against people that install aftermarket items. But for me, I love how clean this looks after.
Personally,I would’ve not only kept it,but would’ve bought a red one too,LOL!You did a good thing getting rid of all that crap!
Those amps and subs look to be in great condition and you can sell them for a decent amount.
My favorite color. Matches the one in my garage. Though mine isn't a WS6. Beautiful car. Fantastic job guys!
So glad you took off that front bumper lip/splitter. Looks badass 👌
22:26 I agree, if you want a leather dash and door trim in wood and all that fancy stuff, go get a BMW and pay the extra $40,000 on top of the $30,000 car, be my guest. Who cares if the whole interior is made of cheap plastic? I don't sleep on the top of the dash.
Thank you for demodifing that car you guys! It's beautiful now! Great video as always, Alex and Peter👍👍
I've got a 97 30th Anniversary Edition Z28. White with the hugger orange stripes and white leather seats. In the process of resto-modding it. Rebuilt the engine with forged internals and a bigger cam with home ported heads and intake. Vortech V1-S blower making 7psi. 24x ignition conversion and running on Holley EFI. I rebuilt the trans due to a damaged 3rd gear. In the process of rebuilding the rear axle. Gonna keep this one a LONG time lol. Makes about 600hp at the flywheel.
I owned a 95 Formula with a stock LT -1. We did a lot of work fixing oil leaks and the AC, replacing alternator, radiator, head gaskets. What an awesome car!
man i was more sad about the entire alpine system being removed than that terrible bumper cover. at least its going to a goood home that audio work looked pretty good ngl.
Darn - was really hoping Peter would be the next owner (making you and Peter the WS6 bros). Maybe he'll take the 'Vette (because honestly I want to see that beauty enjoyed long term on the channel).
IMO, it’s looks a lot better OEM. Nice work!
Another great video, Alex and I enjoyed this series from the get go to the end! 👍👏🏻😀
WS6 is highly underated car. Love this car. (Reusing the sub woofer is a wise idea.)
Underrated? To who lol 😆
@@adamJeepstuff Unfortunately, the WS6 has been largely 'lost to time.' Amazing car, garners a shit-ton of attention, and it's performance _still_ surprises those that don’t know what it is.
Looks 100 percent better without the lip. The only one of those mods I’d keep is the stereo system (redone with better wiring obviously) but sounds like you’re keeping that lol. If I win the auction I’ll trade you back your stock head unit for a really nice aftermarket one, otherwise I might just have to hold it hostage 😂
Very nice! Love what you two did to get it ready
I had a 1997 Camaro SS 30th Anniversary Edition…
Had it when I was 18 and the car was only 2… Loved that car…
I still want an LS F-Body… ❤️❤️❤️
I think I agree with every change but 2. I'd left the front lip because it added substance to the front, but would have found a better fitting one, and I'd have reversed the carbon fiber looking roof piece. That roof piece just looks odd on it. Otherwise. I like everything else!
The sail panel is prone to bubbling and peeling, even on well cared for 4th gens. I assume he worried what would happen to the paint finish upon removal, I definitely would!!!
As I was watching, I noticed you talking about how potentially bad it could be to have bad wired amps. I bought a nonrunning Acura Integra once due to an electrical problem. Come to find it when they removed the amps/subs from the trunk, they didn't remove the power wire from the battery. When I removed that wire. It started right up and actually ran pretty good
Former 4th gen owner. Goddamn I need one back! I had 94 V-6 Camaro for a first car. Now I Need a T/A
I remember being 17 at the new for 98 auto show and seeing this new nose on a black T/A, my jaw dropping and thinking "Come.... to Butthead"
