- #SGLT2i are newer drugs for #T2DM patients. Also called #Gliflozins .
#Canagliflozin , #Empagliflozin , #Dapagliflozin , #Remogliflozin , #Ertugliflozin etc.
They prevent the reabsorption of #sugar in the #kidney
Two important points regarding adverse effects are:
Urinary Tract Infection, mainly due to the glycosuria it produces as well as mycotic genital infections (fungal infection). Improving hygiene reduces infections. Do not be surprised if you see 2% sugar in urine of a well controlled diabetic.
Hypotension and giddiness with possible fall especially in the elderly. This is particularly in those having hypertension on drugs including diuretics. So these drugs need to be reduced in dose and BP monitored.
Great advantage is of Cardiovascular protection especially decrease in #heartattack , #mortality & #hospitalization for #heartfailure
Protective for the kidneys too. #proteinuria is reversed, #egfr improves, #ckd halts or reverses
New study in #JAMA shows protection to eyes. Prevents #sightloss #retinopathy in #diabetes

No. I think these are still underutilised. The potential is huge.
Sir I'm type 1 diabetic last 8 years ..can I take it...
This drug is not for type 1 diabetes. BTW what’s your age and who diagnosed you?
@@DiabeteswithDrSarosh sir I m now 24 years old at the age of 16 I diagnosed type 1 .. I m taking short acting and long acting ...insulins ..and also taking dapaglfozin 10 last 2 years! I m facing only side that is urine infection ....
