SHOULD I WALK AFTER LUNCH OR DINNER ? क्या मुझे लंच या डिनर के बाद टहलना चाहिए?

  • Many patients ask me about the best time to walk.
    #walking twice a day is better than walking just once.
    Many people prefer to walk in the morning on an empty stomach.
    There are certain issues here with that especially in winters.
    Its very cold outside in the early morning plus there are lots of stray dogs who are particularly aggressive in the mornings.
    So you can walk after breakfast too. No problem at all.
    Similarly you can walk after 4 PM tea.
    But NEVER walk after lunch or dinner.
    The reason being that after lunch or dinner, the blood goes to the stomach and intestines and once we walk muscles need oxygen through blood. So the heart suffers form lack of blood and one can develop ischemia or an infarction - heart attack.

    Does this apply to healthy young individuals without heart disease

      Yes for all people in general and the middle aged and elderly in particular. Especially those with underlying hypertension, heart disease etc. In the young, they may even develop indigestion if not anything else. So better to avoid strenuous exercise and brisk walking after a major meal.

      Yes, true. And don't realise it can be dangerous especially in middle and old age in people at risk of atherosclerosis. Many patients have asked me in my Clinic, so thought of making a short video. Thanks.

    VERY NICE INFORMATION......PEOPLE OFTEN ARGUE TO WALK POST DINNER BUT IT IS HARMFUL.THE ESSENCE IS PREMEAL WALK ....
