The sound of those tires trying to grip
There’s no rear wing
Perhaps the weight of the motors + battery assembly justifies the absence of the back wing; there's also the instant torque, that is characteristic of all electric-powered vehicles
0:18 The tires is stretching out
They always do that they're not radials
That’s normal
Tire ballooning in full scale
Totally normal. No, its nothing special and no, not only electric motors do this
As someone who has been working with electricity and electric motors as well as having been a passionate car enthusiasts my entire life.. This gives me wood lol! Can't wait to see it run a full throttle pass with actual traction!
right! ...Just a bad run...Like a lot of combustion engine cars do...I'd certainly like to see this dragster do a few good runs...👍
Craig Cundiff Why be like that? The guys comment was correct.
@paul austin Why are you trolling?
@@timbrink Little PP? lol
It needs traction control...
With the soud being electric it lets you hear other stuff. Listen to those tyres! kinda cool
I know!
Like in the NBA , you hear the shoes.
And after poor johnny the power drill was bullied, he vowed to come back to haunt the v8's.
🤣🤣
its weird how its silence makes it sound so powerful
those noises are scary 💀
that was like watching a drag race with my computer on mute
Are you deaf?
Lol 😂😂
sounds like a RC car
it is a oversized rc car..its not different
Clearly you don't understand what the "RC" in "RC car" means...
+Stuff 'n Junk lmfao
You're absolutely right. It sounds exactly like a brushless Rc car. Clearly, people don't understand what 'sound' is.
even though the motors used in this drag car are brushed dc motors lol thats where those sparks are coming from.
9s for something like a dragster? That's pretty slow
You're really ignorant! If you're going to name your channel 'anything reviews', perhaps you should review the fact that this is brand new stuff, and not be such an incredible twat! Let's see you build something.... //// Your channel description is "Hey guys this is anything reviews and on this channel you will see concept cars, street racing, car events and shows, and me reviewing products.", but what the hell does "Crazy metal riff" have to do with any of that, other than you 'trying' to look cool ?! Stop being a punk tween!
+n7hevn so you felt the need to attack a stranger on the internet because he said the car was slow?
+n7hevn ok?
Clearly you could see that it wasn't dialed in. Do you think every all out dragster runs 6's on it's first pass or something?
+Skylar Garrett yep
electric dragsters are cool in their own way, but it could be the death of the sport. Drag racing as a spectator is all about the sound, the feel, and the smell. You don't get those with an ev dragster sadly
Its like a movie that was ok but you never want to see it again.
Definitely the death of the sport, if it would be only electric dragsters. Would be okay for a electric class only, most people could buy drinks in the spare time.
Thank you. I agree completely. Hell dont go to the concession stand. U may miss the whole event. I say stick to golf carts let the real engines remain in racing
wrong
might do a little better with some more down force at the rear.
and better tires! it really didn't hook up at all!
I thought the same. Where's the rear air foil..
Vlad Gataullin rear down force would give him rear grip headass
@@vladgataullin a typical top fuel dragster's exhaust alone has about 1100lbs of downthrust which help the tires flatten out and give the car extra grip for a good launch at the start.
@@patrickkelly1590 does an electric dragster have exhaust? 🤔
i watched this video in a library
Being a fairly new tech with LiPo batteries that thing's a beast.
The torque from those motors might be more suited in a tractor pulling competition.
still cool to see this here though.
TomBom292 Very true.
That setup makes 3000ftlbs torque at 2800rpm, we have a huge overdrive unit in there balancing it out a little.
@@johnmetric5374 Should That Torque Be Available At All Times At All Revs Of The Electric Motor?
@@SolaricAngel116 yes, but only up to a certain point. At very high revs there is a force from the engine itselve which works against the turning direction. I'm not sure what exactly.
damn, that's one savage electric car, and i bet it only put 1/4 of the power down judging by how hard it spun down the track. is it just me or was it shooting sparks? lol
There's no hiding from it. Electric is the way forward
Not sure if this was a 1/4 mile or 1000 ft drag but either way a top fuel dragster is 2-3 times quicker than this. There are street legal cars that can run high 9s. A Tesla Model S Plaid would be a fairly close race with this. It's cool don't get me wrong, but that was not a very impressive time for a purpose built electric dragster. Electric is the future in most applications and I'm a huge fan of electric cars, but this is a LONG way from being a competitor to ICE dragsters.
ICE is here to stay little feller.
yes thàt riigt
If its this slow, def not.
I certainly ain't going to a drag racing show if it's just electric cars. Where's the fun? where's the fire? where's the occasional explosion?
The most quiet noise machine lol
Interesting, BUT, this will end drag racing, no way people will fill a stadium to watch quiet racing.
I'd go.
Not as fast as fuel
I respectfully understand and appreciate it, but disagree. I am old enough to have lived through the similar logic "no smoking will kill bars".
damn it marty you fried the flux capacitor
I was just watching a Tesla model X drag race and thought 'someone must have built a proper electric dragster'.
Now I've watched one, I'm not sure there's any point to it. Not enough drama. In fact, no drama at all. Surely the fun in drag racing is the intense noise, the flame spitting and engines on the edge of exploding...?
Ultimately I see no reason why electric wouldn't be faster.
Oh I really think that electric will dominate soon. Electric motors are torque monsters!!
This isn't a great example of a run by these things. That ET is only about a second better than a Model S.
When you see an electric dragster with the engines being overdriven by nearly 10x their rated power-then you have a spectacle (literal fountain of sparks).
@@scottcupp8129 nope, have you seen top fuel cars, when a combustion engine is setup at high rpms, power is insane, plus electrics arent good for top speeds
@@danielnolasco119 I've seen several. One thing I do know about top fuel cars is they do 0 to 100 in less than a second
@@scottcupp8129 actually 0-300 in less than 3
That looked like something was broken
Also probably way to much torque
There isnt a thing such as "too much torque", especially in drag racing
That was about as exciting as watching bread toast. If that is the future of drag racing then the sport will completely die.
The future of drag racing in California maybe.
@@hightechcorvette not even there. Or its the death of drag racimg in California too.
this is like going to a concert except there is no music lol
Every time I see these electric cars I'm amazed there lightning quick instant horsepower and torque that's a great combination.curious on the weight difference between a top fuel motor and the electric motor and batteries????
Its surely waaaaay heavier than a gas powered car
Motor: probably not that much.
Batteries... Yeah, that's some hellish weight.
As a point of reference 10 years ago petrol had about 300 times the energy density by weight. Now it's down to 100 times or so...
Electric motors make up some of that by being 3x as efficient, but... Batteries are still amazingly heavy for a given amount of energy...
@@KuraIthys yeah but lithium batteries are much more lighter and smaller than lead-acid, recharge faster and with some good cooling/venting they won't consume that fast. Formula E is an example of how advanced they are nowadays
Insane power. I need the pipes and flame and nitro methane and cams and blower surge and the things that make drag racing not as quiet as a golf tournament
Is this dragster still around or has it been scraped?
Don Garlits Electric Dragster went 7.2 @ 184
3000ftlbs torque, now doing best ET 7.24 best trap 188.78mph
Top fuel dragsters can run 4/5s...
@@circuitdude5924 Yeah and the internal combustion has been around since the 1880s. It took like 120 years for gas to hit 300mph.
@@DrClawizdead Electric motors we're around before combustion engines.
@@circuitdude5924 You're right. I should have said for the purpose of racing cars but I didn't.
Pikes peak, Formula E, drag racing... EVs are comming! Waiting fot the first electric rock bouncer to hit the rocks! Might have to wait a while for Le Mans 24...
Unless they switch the battery out at the pit stop youll never seen electric cars in actual racing tracks.
@@iskdude9922 They can use fuel cell for those races and just refill with Hydrogen. My only problem with fuel cell is that it's a scam. The best way to get hydrogen is from natural gas. The oil industry is pushing fuel cell.
Are AWD Dragsters a thing? If so wouldn't it make more sense for them to make more use of the traction that the front tires could provide and just relocate some of the motors up front, unlike ICE you dont have to add too many parts that add weight either. You wouldnt have to change battery placement and you would be able to make more use of the traction.
Reminds of, back in the day, taking my electric slot car dragster to the local slot car track. I wonder if they squirt a bit of “go juice” into the electric motor?
And don’t forget to “clean the brushes”
there are even normal tuned cars faster than this. There is even a 6spd supra running in the 7s lol. Top Fuel Dragsters are WHOLE nother story
How many double a batteries is that?
I don't give a monkey's how this makes the petrol-heads and coal-rollers feel... This dragster is awesome!
i love the sound of electric cars
Lol what sound
So you love watching movies on mute too
yesvyiu do
Electrical Power
How come no wing? Does the weight of the battery obviate the need for aerodynamic down force?
Best run so far 7.24 seconds best speed so far 188.78mph. We got our Top dragster license in this car. 6.00 chassis and 6.00 license.
I'm still waiting for that 3 second electric dragster. 😂
God those e motors just scream, not as good as the ice ones but they’re own level of insane
Unique
Mad torque!!!
yes
The burnout scared the shit out of me!
You're seeing the future of drag racing give it 20 years and you're going to see all electric vehicles these cars are untouchable instant horsepower and torque they are awesome I love watching them would like to convert an old school pickup truck and goat are everybody at new ass instant power!!!!!!! How badass is that.
Yep. Pure electric & fuel cells are the future. Fuel Cells, especially...
Except no one will watch this in person, which means the death of this sport.
@@wolfgangbarrio5043 I Certainly hope not!!!
In 20 year more like 40 years or more so top fuel dragsters will be way faster and evolve
@@daviddisbrow1567 truth tho. No one would watch electric drag racing.
Maybe slight motor lag, but was the driver just a little slow off the green light?
holy battery torque!!
3000ftlbs torque, now doing 7.24 186mph
tgatscrihht
this is amazing 😱
idk how you people dont find a 9.2@114 exciting. yall keep making all that noise and this electric car is going to keep hurting your feelings
We don't find it exciting because we're still watching the top fuel dragster pull 5s/6s. And they look a lot cooler doing it.
Kenny McCormick 5-6 range is atrociously slow. More like high 3s- low 4s @ 330+.
Odezy Beckhummice janior yeah exactly lol
wringé
pretty cool. couldn't help but think 'regen braking' when they crossed the finish line lol
about as exciting as watching paint dry
Love it
The traction torque looks wild and does not fit into the weight of the vehicle, this needs to be equipped with an encoder and computer control closed loop real time traction that is really great to make it fly with the distance of the drag track
What's the opposite of visceral?
I wonder how many volts that motor uses
200V 8000amps
See them grand stands that's the way it will look when they go all Battery cars
Four fucking motors.
I mean don't get me wrong I love the sound and even the smell of an internal combustion engine but electric engine is instant torque
Drew513Ryder
Wait.... but it was slower than a combustion dragster soooo...where is the instant torque
@@carlover5911 lol, you're literally challenging electrical science. In an electric car, the motor is part of a circuit. When the switch is flicked (throttle) maximum torque is delivered at the speed of light minus electrical resistance (conductivity of wires). Traction and shear strength of materials connecting the motor to the wheels are the limiting factors here.
Greenamaco thanks for explaining it an not acting like an idiot
wrogvetcbeyrr
Hearing never before heard sounds like brakes and gripping tires
5 years later, and you can buy a car that fast.

What I don’t get is... why no wing?
I was expecting some more top fuel like action, but this car has no rear wing for downforce, and it doesn't spin up to get up on the tyre rims either.
Sounds like a super powerful giant RC car

Cute!
Attach noisy turbocooler that can cool down all electrical components (motors, circuitaries) from overheating. Audiance will also hear it.
99.99% of fun is gone!
Should get a brushless
Sounds like a power drill on steroids during the burnout.
yéd itvfísé
Don't tick the box?
With the incredible instant torque, how does the 60 foot time compare with an engine dragster?
Ha it’s not even close a Top Fuel does the 60 foot in 0.8-0.85 seconds (fastest I’ve seen is 0.77/0.78) and is already going around 100 mph. 0-100 mph in under 1 second. They’re on the verge of breaking 340 mph in 1000 feet not even a full 1/4 mile. They’re also geared to limit to the top speed (for safety reasons) but now that Goodyear said the tires are good for 340+ maybe we shall see them push past that barrier soon.
That's faster than a brand new Lamborghini.
S Plaid does that out of the box!
Cute. Slow and cute.
these should be way cheaper to run compared to top fuel ones where the engine gets a rebuild at basically each run
I expected it to have a rear wing!
How many AA batteries does that need?
reçhßb ñstterirs
Kinda too bad so many critics bad mouth it. I'm a realist and I think running drag cars is cool, regardless of the power source. It takes a lot of smart tech to get a car to go quick and work out the bugs to make it quicker. Toyota beat Art Arfons Green Monster on the dragstrip, for a while. One of the best TV ads ever.
how much speed?
It's insane there a completely stock 4 for sedan that runs these times now.
omg the sparks spewing out of the motors lol
Compared to a top fuel car this is about as exciting as watching concrete harden.
What? there were sparks coming off of the electric engine
They look like dc motors, when they draw high amps they can throw sparks off the brushes. Not good for longevity, but it'll put the power to the tires, that's for sure.
simply electric motors cannot withstand high horsepower and heat and burn off! internal combustion engines FTW! electric motors are for going at the supermarket
+Arno Venroy Most dragsters use brushless motors.
He over volted the living hell out of the motors to get lots of power, but he used the wrong DC motors. Had he used motors that had interpoles, he would not have sparks and it would go even faster.
Show me a stock gas engine that can be pushed by 500% without modifying it? Those motors he is using are rated for 72 volts, but he is running them at 300+ volts and 1000's of amps to get high power out of them. No stock gas engine would last even second without blowing up if you pushed it by 500%. You have to build the gas engine with stronger components wheres as all you need to do with brushed DC motors is increase amps and voltage to get free power that will allow you to gown a 1/4 mile track, problem free.
Cool to see it. But wouldn't walk out of my house to watch this, a pure snoozefest. Lol why would anyone watch this when firebreathing, faster V8 monsters exist? No point to this
They not as dramatic without the tremendous noise.
It doesn't have any downforce, of course it's not very fast. You can hear the tyres struggling to grip to asphalt under sheer torque the motor provides.
For all the people making nasty comments, 1)This was not his best run. Us EV people have to make crappy cars before we make good ones. 2)John does not have a billion dollar budget. It's not like the race car has billions of dollars of R&D, more than half a century of R&D, millions of engineering hours, etc! There is simply no way some 1 dude in garage is going to overcome all that investment in ICE cars in a short period of time. If Ford spent their Mustang EV budget on John he would ALREADY have EV's doing 5000+ HP. 3)The noise (or lack their of) is easily mitigated by simply allowing the EV to race next to a loud ICE car. Do we really need two noisemakers on the track?
That washing machine could do the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs for all I care. I would still rather experience Top Fuel dragsters.
Yes, we do. Thats what we pay money for. To watch and hear two loud V8s at the track. Do you pay to go to the cinema without watching a movie or what
@DaveElectric yes we don’t want to watch ev dragsters going at it. Boring. Most of the experience in watching drag racing is the sounds and vibrations of the motors screaming not the speed at which they end their run at or how quickly they take off the line.
when they make 12,000 HP and run Mid 3.5 sec s at 340 mph..people might give a SHT
Welcome to the future folks.
yo the weels started to baloon at the start
Electricity is most powerful elements on earth just imagine if u can control all that power in a motor u might can go faster than light
no, coz the friction and other losses
Pretty sure those sparks were not suppose to be part of the show, I'm guessing something was burning out, and I don't mean tires.
That's pretty cool. Not too impressive but cool none the less
Sparks means motor was hurting bad. there are 7 second EV\s
+Robert Merritt there are 3 second ice vehicles
sjpro1 Yes there are..... The ICE has been in development for how long now?
Robert Merritt 1834, the first electric car was created. electric cars held all land speed records until 1900. As you already should know the first petrol car was created by Karl Benz in 1886.
however you should also know that as soon as oil companies realized they could makes so much money out of fuel powered cars research in electric vehicles basically stopped as companies that were researching into evs were paid off lol
is it faster then top fuel/jet drag cars?
that what çhef goinhg fim oyt erdig day
Of course not. Its not even close
In this video you can see why eletric cars scare the hell out of me. Don't get me wrong, I love them, I just think I wouldn't be able to handle that kind of instantaneous torque. It's just too crazy
*It's really a shame when people mock and denigrate electrics- no understanding of how powerful they are.*
fkn slow
@@Tinas2Labs of course they are. That's why the Corvette, the challenger, the Camaro couldn't touch the plaid... it took a 1000 hp mustang to finally beat it. fin slow, right?
Why it pop spark?
I love how offended people get about EVs being quick. Sorry it doesn't rumble bro but it's fast as fuck and no one can deny that. I still get the love for the noise, but don't make it out like one is better than the other. Both are sick in their own ways.
Its actually pretty slow, so there is no advantage to a nitro dragster, just disadvantages. Its insanely boring while being way slower.
Didn't see any flame but I did see a couple sparks.
now 2021 the Tesla sedan is .5 sec behind while weighing 4 times as much.
Electric drag racing will fail anyway.
