Catie W I had to do that last year too cuz I only had one flute ahaha, but I’m planning on marching saxophone or clarinet next year so I don have to use my flute😂
I had to do that at the state comp because I had a solo in the ballad and it was to cold to leave my good one on a peg by the mic so we just used my good one for the full show.
Aleigh Molsberry I used to play piccolo in middle school, but I didn’t make the audition in high school. I really want to play it again though. I miss playing my little guy. I named him Eugene
Im so exited for marching band in highschool, I started playing the flute about 2 weeks ago but I already know how to play a Bb concert scale and i'm learning how to read music. It looks like fun!
I hate playing low notes on the field. Like, what is the purpose at that point?? Like, I have to play a low F for one of the songs, and no one can even hear it lol
Bro I’m not sure what I want to do anymore… obviously my freshman year I played flute and now the director said I should play piccolo (which is exciting cause I am playing the flute for 5 1/2 years now). And I have played the piccolo for the first time during all of jazz band season this year, so I do have experience. Though sometimes my high notes don’t come out, or just any note, and it can be frustrating. So now, I’m not even sure if playing piccolo for marching band would be the best (even though it would sound better since now we have only two flutes now in our marching band -unless more people come-)
how do y’all remember the notes and stuff? like literally that’s so impressive. i’ve been playing for a long time and i can barely remember any notes i have to play 😭
It’s actually easier than it looks! I’m in my middle school marching band (well not anymore cause of stupid covid 🥲), and I’ve been having to memorize music for marching since I was in 6th grade. We usually have to memorize two songs. It probably sounds hard, but it’s actually not! Just practice and practice and just have fun! And usually by playing the songs all the time inside the band class, you usually end up kind of memorizing some of the music already. :)
If your band director will allow you to put one of the adhesive pads on the drum that is the most secure way to mount the camera. otherwise I suggest using the Jaws Clamp will work ok. You just don't want a lot of movement. Check out some of my GOPRO shows from Oak Mountain HS on my channel to get a sense of the angles you can get. Good luck!
I plan to try out the new "Jam" mount this year as well. You can also get a good mount on a bass drum with a suction mount but the curvature of the drum might be tricky.
Federico Le Grand I use the GoPro Handlebar Mount. Works great. Point the camera down at the player. Classic angle. Let me know how it turns out! Thanks for watching!
Federico Le Grand it obviously adds weight to the end of the flute but no students have indicated to me an issue with their playing ability. Try it and see! Thanks for watching!
Murphy Schnauzer It all depends on the player, but generally flute is pretty hard to play when first learning. The flute uses so much more air than most other instruments because sound is produced when you blow over the hole, not completely into the instrument. Plus, the embouchure can get very hard to get used to and you always need to make sure you keep them in shape. Fingerings can get hard sometimes but not that much, for me at least.
Murphy Schnauzer I've been playing flute since 6th grade, and I'm a senior now, when I first started it was kind of hard, I got all kinds of bruises on my hands, and I felt really light headed, but I did deal with it, started to memorize the fingerings, it is easy to stay with one instrument for a good amount of time, in middle school my last year, I wanted to get into high school jazz band (didn't work out, technically I did but it was a very low grade jazz (alto saxophone )) I didn't really like it at all, I'm still sticking to flute tho, if you do join the flute army, I hope you enjoy it 😊
Oh, I'm just starting alto sax! I've played flute since third grade and I'm in eighth grade now. I also wanted to be in the jazz band, so I'm learning the alto sax. I got down the fingerings pretty easy, but I haven't gotten a reed yet so I haven't really tested out if sax is hard or not.
I’m kinda sad that you can’t hear the flutes in marching band and you mostly just hear the drums and brass instruments.
Lillian Lou same
You can hear piccolo and flute if your brass players actually play what the dynamics are....
Rocket Raccoon that's unrealistic
Colleen Coleman So being a state level band is unrealistic? Yeah, okay. I didn’t know the state marching competition didn’t exist.
lillian lou honestly same. In Marching Band last year at my school we only had 4 flutes and a piccolo
Is no one gonna talk about how she's marching her nice, open-holed flute?
Catie W I had to do that last year too cuz I only had one flute ahaha, but I’m planning on marching saxophone or clarinet next year so I don have to use my flute😂
hey at least she has a C-foot joint
Not all open holed flutes are nice
I had to do that at the state comp because I had a solo in the ballad and it was to cold to leave my good one on a peg by the mic so we just used my good one for the full show.
Flute people are life
Flute AND piccolo!! Anyone else?
Aleigh Molsberry I used to play piccolo in middle school, but I didn’t make the audition in high school. I really want to play it again though. I miss playing my little guy. I named him Eugene

does anyone know how to attach the camera to the flute? I'm planning on doing this, any ideas?
hey, isn't that salty? Easy! Use a handlebar mount. I used it in this video. Plan to use it tomorrow night. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Mount the camera at the end of the flute and point it down the barrel of the instrument at the player. Let me know how it goes!

Yep it's awesome wow
Can someone please tell me what mount was used because I plan on mounting one onto my bass drum and cannot seem to find a good mount PLEASE HELP!!!!
I use a variety of mounts. The Jaw works good on a bass drum. It really depends on where on the drum you are trying to mount the camera.
+Bob Fitzgerald I would like to mount it on the top but I want to make sure I buy the right mount.
