The Oak Mountain High School Spirit of Cahaba Drumline in Birmingham, AL performs this popular stands tune during the marching season. This year's finale performance on November 2, 2012 featured the Bass Drums doing some cool splits.
The official band website is www.oakmountainband.com.
THIS IS WHY I JOINED DRUMLINE. cant wait to go to tenors in my junior and/or senior year.
That's very cool! Best of luck and thanks for watching!
Ay show off a bit to your section leader. I'm a sophomore and this is my first year of drumline and I've just been told I'm going to be trained for quads/tenors this year cuz I already know to play a bunch of tenor stuff
@@Bruh-bx9mh best wishes and thanks for watching!
Cool 😎
I'm a second year 1st bassman
This was in 2012... each band member here is an adult now probably through college/ in college almost done... that’s trippy
Yeah we are
Around two years ago some of those players were on the drumline for Auburn University, but theyve already graduated now.
@@heck8506 I'm about to graduate. Just haven't been on the line in 2 years.
KeyboardCat147 oh my bad man I thought you were going for a masters
They grow up so fast xD
As someone who was in drumline, this was truly the best part of band in it's entirety. Just playing together as one cohesive group... also getting to be loud af in front of the other band memebers.
Thanks for watching!
Fax. Jig is probably my marching bands favorite cadence
That's funny, cuz most of our Drumline HATES Jig while everyone else loves it
Fax. Jig 2 on 2nd bass was awesome when splitting
my percussion director doesnt allow us to play jig 2 around him at all :@@mossybro9847
Everyone else in marching band secretly wishes they were in the drum line

Can confirm Trumpet player
@@minicookiescraft9626 ikr same... the cadences sound awesome
can confirm, tuba player. but we're mostly crackheads with the drumline :")
Lund Lavander can confirm. All my friends are in drum line and i play tuba. I play drums outside of school though so sometimes they let me screw around during football games.
Our drum line did this in the middle of an assembly and it was like the first time the rest of the school actually respected the band. Shout out to Eric and Alex!
My drumline did this and everyone died even the other team
In our school the band gets no respect and the football captain is always trash talking the drumline captain saying about how easy the tenors/quads are. Even though he was in band and gave up cause it was too hard.
Durring an talent show I just played some stuff a senior gave me and the senior thought me everything so I played it as well as her and that was my first year playing, so NO ONE trash talks our band(I’m a flute)

IDK everything is pretty great at my school, choir, band, and orchestra will tease each other and etc but there is no real disrespect
My favorite part is where they go from their solo back into line, so satisfying
Thanks for watching!

It's always insane when the band does this. Everyone goes crazy!
Lots of fun for sure....even more fun to video it! Thanks for watching!
Well, we wouldn't be a band without percussion, love em or hate em, haha!

Sleepy Weeb that’s pretty funny! Thanks for watching!
True hahaha
Not trying to be nit picky but damn there was a lot of mistakes in that run.
@@James-sm5vg you do it
@Jamus Ryan true especially while marching
Bass Splits are rough. You basically have to think as a single entity playing a single instrument.
Or count. That works too.
^^ so true xD
It looked like most of them didn’t even know what they were doing though, I’ve marched bass before.
This is sooo funny cuz my drum teacher will spend like 30 mins a day just yelling at the bass line to count.
@@haydenschaefer1872 yep, sounds bout' right
I'm Bass 1 so I start most runs. Although, I get too scared and don't play it right, so I kinda suck at it. We're practicing splits in drum line practice and _oh god_ it's so painful to just do splits for 45 minutes
Snare line be sounding like popcorn in the microwave bruh

I feel like in a lot of high school drumlines the snares are bad for some reason and the tenors are much better. For us at least

Crystal M. I'd say 5a or 6a
I hear this at my high school football games and when you hear it in person, there’s so much more bass and not only that, but you can FEEL the bass like they play loud

A kid in my school band was so inspired by this that he decided to compose it during his free time for the whole drumline to play.
Ken Kaneki would love to see a video of it. Thanks for watching!
Bob Fitzgerald: At the time we weren't allowed to use our phones because it was during school but I'm sure our drumline will play it again. I'll try to get a video 4 u then.
Good
Ken Kaneki ok
i made my band teacher get me quads so the drumline can play a cadence.
Y’all have 5 tenors, we have 1 and he’s amazing, he’s literally like my big brother and I love him so much. He can play Jig 2 so so so well and it’s crazy that he can move his hands that fast honestly
I THOUGH I WAS THE ONLY ONE WITH A BIG “BROTHER” TENOR PLAYER
Right I can never move my hands as quickly as our quad players do
@@excitedpatsfanwx681 have you never semi mastered rolling and crossovers? Do that and you don't have to test your blazing hand speed lol. Also, learn triple roll single hand strokes for them. Just some tips sorry I'm late but all this makes it easier until your hand speed is better. Rolls are important.
@@lyrics2challenged I’ve never played on Quads
In my years in band, only 2 of our quad players could’ve played this. Then again, we only had 2 for the past 3 years
Lmao for the past 4 seasons (indoor and outdoor) we have had 1 tenor 3/4 of them. Last season it was 2 tenors.
Mike7998 my band did this last yesr with only 1 quad, 1 bass, 1 cymbal and two snares. You know how hard it is for one bass to do the entire ladder
i'm new to drums this year for my class, I play tenors. But it's the one that has a harness. So you have to carry the whole tenor and Walk while playing it.
This is why I always loved marching band and why I joined the marching band in high school besides wanting to play music.. drum line always hypes the band so much, the feeling from being there and hearing it is unbelievable
Rosalia Brooklyn Girl Glad you like it! Our band and student section at the games absolutely are into this when it is played. You can tell from the crowd how much they enjoy it. Thanks for your nice comment and for watching. Check out more of this band on my channel!
I play trumpet. And I have never wanted to play percussion more. I love this so much. I can do the first part of it, but not the super speedy part. Y’all are crazy good.
Thanks for your kind words. This video is almost 10 years old and many of these students went on to play at the collegiate level, some are now music educators themselves! Be sure to check out the evolution of Jig 2 through these past 10 years. I have posted a version every year. About to post the 2021 version! Thanks for watching!
As someone who played football, I never appreciated how sick these dudes were while we were on the field/in the locker room.
Good shit
Thanks for watching and for your unvarnished comments. These band members can make a big impact on disrupting an opponent's plays. Saw this first hand against a local rival last Friday and many other times too.

1 out of the many reasons percussion is the best section

Bass and guitar is percussion. I get bullied by my section leader(marimba player) for not being real percussion all the time but I swear it counts.

Jaxen Mcgee So I'm better off marching it?
@TrampolineLemons I have never actually played guitar in marching band other than at 2 practices or so when I wanted to see how many people would pick up on the fact that I was playing an octave higher than normal. Bass for life.
I really really love this video. While there are many saying that this performance is choppy and not the most "amazing," I still think this video does a great job in capturing the essence of marching band and drumline. The excitement, the smiles, and just everyone having a great time. While it's not a perfect performance, it's just a high school stand tune and they have probably had better performances of it as well. I think people are missing the point and should just enjoy the video as it is.
FACADE Music Of all the hundreds of comments I have got on this, I think yours really hit the mark. That was exactly the point of sharing this. Its a group of high school kids having a fun time. It's not perfect and all those who criticize all the little things are missing the point. This was shot in the fall of 2012 and most of these kids have gone on to perform in college. Just realize what this is....a fun capture of the time they had in high school. When they play this the whole crowd gets into it and the kids have a blast. Thanks for bringing a little perspective to this.
Bob Fitzgerald FACADE Music this is exactly it. not every drumline has the budget, resources, program time, etc. to be DCI/WGI quality. but this is solid for high school, better than the average high school, and it's all about the fun. reminds me of and really makes me miss my drumline and band :'(
I'm a sophomore and I showed my fellow drummers this and they loved it, I learned it myself and I think my drum major is interested in us playing it
That's great! have fun with this....that's what it's all about.

We have a tenor at my school who learned to do this. I love him so much. He's like a big brother to me. At one of my first football games, he played this and the band went wild. We were playing against our biggest rival and so everyone learned the bass drum part so for the whole time everyone in the band was stomping their feet. One of my favorite memories.

As a member of drumline for 2 years, (I just finished my second) I can say that THIS STUFF GOES SO HARD AND I LOVE PLAYING IT WHENEVER I GET A CHANCE!!! (Also the bass drum solo is weird because our drumline plays it so differently)

It's awesome seeing the rest of the band having so much fun. These kids are pretty talented. Just think of how amazing they'll be in college.
Mr. Santos, you have to be there to really experience the fun that this band has. It is amazing! Wow, this brought me a lot of memories when i was in a "Drum and Lyre" band in school, i was a snare drummer and i was able to make friends with a bass drummer and a quads drummer, my friend (the quads drummer) asked me if i knew a bit of drumming in quads and i said "yeah, i know a bit of songs" and then he suddenly offered me to try the quads, i accepted it and played "Jig 2", which is the song that is playing in this video, and he and my other friend (who plays the bass drum) was impressed, and my coach came out of NOWHERE and said "Hey you're pretty good at quads! Should i transfer you to the quads role with your friend? You two would make a great duo!", I froze there because it was my dream to become a quads drummer but my mother wont let me and just transfered me in a snare drummer role instead, i wanted to accept my coach's offer but i dont know how my mother would react to it, i had to make a "yes but i dont really know" response without it being obvious so i just said "i dont really know about my mom, i think you should ask her instead sir", instantly turning down my dream of being a quads drummer because i know my mom wouldnt let me, i was kinda upset that day but i was happy i was able to try out the quads drum thanks to my friend! This was a great video and had me feeling nostalgic!

+DrumBumAdventures really? This is a high school drum line, it's not freaking DCI drumline

I know that look. That's the look of someone who wants to he on tenors but is stuck on bass. I had that look throughout high school. I bet that section leader is a bitch too. She counted off because she wanted a solo before the splits. She was the only one happy even though the splits were dirty as hell. I don't want to have to judge her that way (obviously, I don't know her) but I just get that vibe because my bass section leader did the same stuff whenever we played cadences and there was a bass feature. I feel for bass one here.
@@micycles1200 the original has that count for the first solo in each section. Also idk if she's the section leader or not, I think that part is just written for a specific size bass.
