Now this is high level surf coaching that’s rarely seen on yt. Just like the video coaching we used to get on the ski team. Showing each step with the lines and angles really drives the concepts home. Also great how you compare with your own technique. What tool are you using to draw the lines on video?
Hope you do more vids like this Lakey. Thanks for this. I don't surf but one day it will be my dream. And hopefully I will make that a everyday reality before I turn 50
Really helpful tutorials ! I love how you show both "perfect" and "imperfect", it's reassuring for us mediocre surfers to see that even professionals still struggle to have perfect posture !
Thank you for putting this together. It's incredibly informative. I admire your self-esteem and self-belief, in comparing your performance to your model performance. The video would have been great with just your surfing, but the inclusion of your ongoing work and the comparison to the model performance takes it to the next level! It's a refreshing change. Please upload some videos on backhand, bottom turns, carving, and snaps? Wishing you all the best for your upcoming season.
Awesome video analysis breakdown Lakey! Love your attention to minor details like your knee compression in your bottom turn, and your back arm and head position in your top turn are gamechangers. Both you and Ethan are amazing surfers love the constant desire to improve and get 1% better. 💯🙌
This is the best surfing technique breakdown I've seen on YT! So clear and thorough and nice to hear what things you are looking to improve on your own turns. One thing between yours and Ethans carve is his legs staying in a relaxed flexion of knees through the top turn and yours had a straighter front leg pushing through the bent back knee for the turn. How does this affect the the type of turn as a result? As a beginner/intermediate which technique is better to aim to do for now?
Epic, glad you enjoyed! I would always try and have it slightly flexed for sure. Almost acts as a shock absorber if there’s any bumps. So Ethan’s technique is for sure what you should aim for. Breaking it into individual steps at a time also is prob easiest
World class video! Thank you so much! An important point on Ethans technique too is the flow between maneuvers due to that at the end point, he moves forward the back foot to start pumping to prepare next bottom. He does it in one movement, just after he finishes the back foot kick at the point 3 using the inertia of the forward momentum
This only just now came up on my phone. Thanks for the vid lakey👍. Love your surfing style you shredder you! Love and good vibes from australia yeeeeeeew✌️❤️
It’s funny. It was your Marathon vid that got me carving. Now it’s my favorite thing to do when I surf. And I’ve been studying Ethan’s technique for the last year, trying to improve. Really impressed with your insights, pointing out things that I had missed. And with your humility in pointing out stuff you need to work on. 🤙🏼
Thank you Lakey. This was very helpful and rly liked how you did the comparison. Pls keep pro tips coming! 😊 and if you can, would rly appreciate a backhand carve lesson. My backhand sucks 😢
Really good analysis. Don't be hard on yourself. Your surfing is amazing. Even at your mutual best, your style and forum will be different from Ethan's. That said, I think this is them most helpful video I've seen on the carve because you're comparing two extremely high level surfers. Thanks.
Really great video breakdown of two rippers and the subtle differences that aid in making the move better. It would be great if you continue with making more videos like this. I am sure I am not the only one that appreciates them. One production note...the music is a bit too loud and makes it difficult to hear you, which is why all of us are watching your video. Thank you!
Very good analysis. I didn't like the background music as I thought it was a bit distracting. I've been here since you started the channel and is nice to see that your surfing is improving, keep ripping and good luck in Hawaii Lakey!
Super helpful! When you’re working on improving, do you only focus on one component of the turn, or do work on all aspects of the turn? I guess my problem is I just get amped on the wave and want to fix all aspects all at once!
I’ve found that 1 aspect for each surf works best. So for the carve I would make sure I’m nailing bottom turns first before moving into the next step 😊👍
i feel like when i switch to my epoxy for the summer days i cant get low & dig my rail as much on my bottom turns because it floats more & i feel like i'll slide out. if that a general epoxy issue or do i need to not rely on my fins as much?
The back foot doesn’t really change position. It’s more your weight transition into your back foot at the 3/4 part of the wave. Hope that makes sense 👍
Sorry Lakey, but at 7.52 your left arm should be over the nose of your Board heading to tha Lip similar to a Boxer throwing a left uppercut making your momentum to follow through to lip. Justsayin..
Major failure in this tutorial. Sorry. Another useless video, here is why : yes in bottom turn the rear arm must touch the water. But you missed two key points for every intermidiate surfer, I needed those advices and lost years, litteraly years doing the bad mouvement : keep the elbow of your front arm always , always far from your front knee, never ever cross them. And put always your back foot, far far on the pad, as far as possible , don't even think about turns without this key points...and you video, as many videos on UA-cam missed this huge important points . Thanks to surfpro technics channel. Cheers
A true athlete! Always critical of oneself to do better!!! Thanks for the breakdown! I’ll never look at carves the same ever again!
Glad you enjoyed it Tim! Always learning and growing 😊

Clear I will watch it an practice. Thanks.

Glad you liked it Jorge! 😊🙌

very helpful detailed breakdown! thankyou - any different things to take note for a twinny rider?
I can’t help out there sorry. I’m very experienced on a twinny
YEEW🤙🏽 Thanks for sharing!!
Glad you enjoyed 😊
Really good breakdown video. Could you do one about training maneuvers through visualization ? Thank you for your videos.
Okay, I’ll add this to our list! 😊😊😊
@@Lakey_Peterson oops I meant training FOR maneuvers ... thank you for your answer.

Stoked you liked the analysis Rodrigo! 🙌😊
Soo good!!
🙌
Very informative. Thanks for sharing! Can you breakdown a layback snap? A comparison with JJF would be cool
Glad you enjoyed! I’ll add this to the list of things to cover 😊🙌
Good luck at pipe! I remember last year you were the only one who took down Moana! next weeks vlog is gunna be dope
Thanks Noah!
Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it 😊
What is the name of the software you used to do the technical analysis? Excellent content, I congratulate you
Thanks! It’s called onform 👌
Love your surfing, question on the bottom turn…. Are you driving off your back foot or front or both?
Stoked your liking it! The bottom turn is more of a neutral stance. Even weight through both feet.
A "how to" round house would be a great video, not many can do this move well even on tour ;)
Love it, will add to the list

Thanks for the insight l always have my arms in the wrong position ahhh
Don’t worry, I’m the same! 😅

Zero part: the perfect wave
Laybacks next please!
Added to the list 😜🙌
🔥🔥🔥
🙌
Thanks again! Question: When do you move the back foot to the kicker? Or it stays there all the time except for certain situations?
The back foot doesn’t really change position. It’s more your weight transition into your back foot at the 3/4 part of the wave. Hope that makes sense 👍
Lakey , stand by is only delaying. the inevitable, Putting a wuppin on Byan and Simmers. Take no prisoners.
Thanks Kurt! 👍
