Gary Rossington, the last founding member just passed away a couple weeks ago. He plays the great guitar solos throughout this tune. The band is all together now, once again, and rocking the hell out of heaven!
Let's give a hand to Billy Powel for his magnificent contributions playing the piano for Lynyrd Skynyrd. He was a classically trained pianist. Originally he was a roadie for the band. Story goes that during a break and brief moment of downtime he was overheard by the band playing a piano. The rest is history and a beautiful one at that. RIP Lynyrd Skynyrd!

Amber, there must be hundreds of people reacting to music, and you do it better than any of them. This is one of Skynyrd's songs that separate them from the rest. No one could do what they do with a melting of smooth blues, easy listening, country, and rock. It still gets me emotional, especially after Gary's death just recently. Right now, if I was driving, I'd have to pull over. 🥲
@@RitaBowen1 I saw them a couple times in the late '90s and really enjoyed it but I know it could never compare with what you saw in '77. I can only imagine how great that must have been!
My favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd song. As others have noted, Gary Rossington passed away earlier this month. He was the last surviving member of the original band. Lynyrd Skynyrd’s first three albums were produced by Al Kooper. He did many remarkable things - wrote “This Diamond Ring” For Gary Lewis & The Playboys, played the organ on Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone”, co-founded both The Blues Project & Blood, Sweat & Tears and was the stage manager at The Monterey International Pop Festival.
Al indeed did great things in music. Discovering this band was one of his greatest! By the way, he is playing bass, mellotron and singing background harmonies on this particular track. He is credited as Roosevelt Gooch (his alias)
I was 13 when I first heard them (playing Free Bird of course). That was 50 years ago in 1973. This year, exactly 50 years later, the last original member passes away. Heaven now has the full band! It's gotta be rocking hard up there! RIP to all of you. Thanks for the great music and live concerts.
Ronnie Van Zant was from the South through and through but his genius was/is that his songs connect to your heart and soul no matter who you are or where you’re from. Very rare and such a huge loss way too soon. RIP Gary Rossington as well.
GREAT JOB as usual. Great song Ed King once said, “ if you really want to know who Ronnie Van Zant is, just listen to ANY SIX of his songs. And you’ll know exactly who he is”. That is so deeply profound and true. You can’t really say that about a single other great songwriter.
I grew up on Lynyrd Skynyrd, am now 30.. my mom and dad and aunts and uncles all listened to them.. several years ago one of my uncles died unexpectedly and way before his time and they played Tuesday's Gone at his funeral because he was a big Skynyrd and CCR fan.. A very interesting song besides being a banger. It describes the effects of a major life change, namely the bands signing to a record deal. Everything is different after the event; the past, "Tuesday" as it is labeled , cannot be reclaimed. And while you may lament it's absence, only the future, new and unknown, is available to you. You've "got to carry on"!
Thank you for explaining this. I first heard this song over 30 years ago, rolling down the highway in my BF Mustang, listening to him sing along. I knew I'd love him from that day forward. Great memories. I'm transported back there every time I hear it again. And yes, still lovin'reach other 31 years later.

I know she expects me to marry her but I am too much of a coward to end the relationship. I am looking for a Dom who will break up my relationship and then put me in chastity, blackmail me and make me her slave. You are so much more beautiful than my GF.
This is one of the greatest albums in rock history, especially considering it was the first album put out by a bunch of kids barely into their 20s. Gimme Three Steps, Simple Man, Tuesdays Gone, Things Goin' On, AND Freebird all on one album. They oncorporated a small symphony ON THEIR FIRST ALBUM. That's so assured and confident - they KNEW it was awesome, not corny. Freaking amazingly talented band - glad you all are starting to get into them! Their producer (Al Kooper) didn't want them to record Freebird ("it's way too long and will never get played!") - Ronnie asked him to step outside, told him to get in his car, and not come inside without his permission. Then they recorded it on their own... Thank the Lord Ronnie was a hard ass - Kooper said "Ronnie was VERY convincing..." lol If you all ever get to Muscle Shoals, gotta check out the sound studios there - between them they put out over 200 charting rock, blues, and R&B songs. Aretha, Dylan, Stones, Skynyrd, Allman Bros, Clapton, Harrison, Rondstadt, Seger, Wilson Pickett... Percy Sledge was discovered nearby (literally as a share cropper) and recorded his first song "When a Man Loves a Woman" there. The tours are amazing journeys into music history. All in a redneck little town in Alabama. :-) Skynyrd LOVED it there amd recording with the house bands ("Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers, amd they been known to pick a song or two..."), who were legendary in their own right. And RIP Gary - thanks for the music.
I was gonna say watch Muscle Shoals. Great documentary and it just showd how much they were involved in almost every great song from the 60's and 70's. They would be blown away by it

Back when music told a story. Phenomenal band.
That is my all time favorite Lynard Skynard song, even more than Freebird. RIP Gary Rossington!! That Sweet guitar will be Sorely missed.
Hello Goddess - you are so beautiful. I was wondering if you do Homewrecking ? I am in a 2 year relationship with someone who is not Dom - but I have almost always been with a Dom. I know she expects me to marry her but I am too much of a coward to end the relationship. I am looking for a Dom who will break up my relationship and then put me in chastity, blackmail me and make me her slave. You are so much more beautiful than my GF.
Glad yall digging the Skynyrd vibes. I been gigging em all my life love yall and thanks for always keeping it real
Thank the Lord Ronnie was a hard ass - Kooper said "Ronnie was VERY convincing..." lol
If you all ever get to Muscle Shoals, gotta check out the sound studios there - between them they put out over 200 charting rock, blues, and R&B songs.
They would be blown away by it
You forgot Bob Segar
@@brianmcmaster5112 His last name is spelled "Seger"
@@brianmcmaster5112 Yes its a fantastic documentary!
It was "Simple Man" Kooper didn't like, and Ronnie put him in the car.
Jay, you have almost restored my faith in you after this reaction. Almost.
RIP Gary Rossington
My husband and I were privileged to see them two times in Memphis Tn. By far the best concert we saw and we went to many back in the day. My favorite Southern rock band hands down. Their music will live forever!!!
You have to see them live before the plane crash when they had their best lineup. Please check out "Call Me the Breeze" or "T for Texas", the live versions from Knebworth in 1976.
T for Texas live has such fantastic guitar interplay! It's one of my favorite Skynyrd songs.
This has been my favorite Lynyrd Skynyrd song since I first heard it watching Happy Gilmore. Great choice, great reaction!
