Hi, we went on this train in June /22 and enjoyed it immensely. The magnificent scenery, comfort , exquisite food and friendly, accommodating staff and meeting of new friends have truly made this a memorable trip. A bit on the expensive side but something you should experience and add to your bucket list. My wife and I had taken a 13 day Alaska cruise and land tour before picking up the train in Vancouver. My wife has been saying for years she wanted to take a train from Vancouver to Banff. We did it in a Gold Leaf car a month ago and it was fantastic. Being a photographer it was a target rich environment from the colorful graffiti in Vancouver thru the Canadian Rockies to Lake Louise. The food was incredible. My favorite drink was a hot chocolate with Baileys made to perfection. Be aware that there will be numerous stops due to opposing freight trains, especially the Kamloops to Banff portion. The staff was outstanding. The narrative during the trip with the historical points of interest and advisories of upcoming photo ops and going out on the open deck frequently kept us entertained. Meeting new people at breakfast and lunch was very enjoyable. We ate with people Great Britain, Australia and Taiwan. In the future we will definitely take another Rocky Mountaineer trip on a different breathtaking journey.
I was just talking to my wife about this train on our drive from Calgary to Vancouver, something I think will be doing in the near future, thanks for the video. The drive from Vancouver to the interior of BC is just as incredible, following the Fraser River. It truly is a beautiful place to live.
Bringing back very happy memories of the first visit to Canada, travelling Gold leaf, spotting bears and coyotes. Actually moved to Canada just a few months later, based on this experience supposedly for 6 months and stayed 6.5 years 😁
Ha ha we had friends from Germany come to stay with us on Vancouver Island in the 90s. They followed up the trip by moving here less a year later and are still here for almost 25 years now.
My wife and I went on this amazing train . We will never forget the good time we had. The staff and service were beyond the highest standard like Diamond class not gold one. I will do it again one day . Thank you Rocky Mountaineer for an unforgettable journey . Jose from Melbourne Australia.
Canada is on top of my bucket list of places to travel. Your train journey has just confirmed what a beautiful and breathtaking country Canada is and has just made me want to visit it even more.
I have done every railway line in Canada (except Churchill). That includes 4 different Rocky Mountaineers (they do 5 different routes, the fifth goes to Seattle). Vancouver to Halifax, Prince Rupert, Calgary, Sarnia, Windsor, Niagara Falls, Toronto, Kitchener, Aldershot, Cochrane, Moosonee, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Sept Iles and Schefferville. We took this train as the last leg of our cross Canada train journey back in 2014. Gold leaf too. So wish it was longer than 2 days. We were pampered. Thx for sharing your wonderful experience.
I’m from Calgary Ab, go to Banff often, and I’d just like to say thank you for showing people around the world how beautiful this province is. I just got back from my anniversary in Canmore and we watched a ton of your videos while we were away and came home to see this. Keep going! Thank you for the great content 😊 I’d love to see you exploring the towns
For a city of 1 Million, Calgary is exceptionally clean, safe, and modern, except for the homeless problem downtown, many who are from eastern Canada. In nearly all suburbs you can be perfectly safe walking down the street at midnight, and in some places during the day you can see the sharp wall of the Rockies on the western horizon.
Just returned from Australia, and the journey from Sydney to Perth on the Indian Pacific. Fabulous. The Gold Service cabin was comfortable and spacious. The Outback Explorers lounge was where we spent most of our time... a real treat to watch Australia pass by the windows. The young lady making the specialty coffee really knew her barista craft... The Adelaide Restaurant fare was pretty much over the top... pretty much the same quality as a top restaurant anywhere in the world... and the service... well it was just fabulous. We were one of two American couples on board, the rest were Aussies (Aussies are fun). Highly recommend.
Try and say to yourself, a stranger is only a friend that you have not met yet. The atmosphere is more like being for there for each other and looking after one another. The kind staff will look after your every need, and dispel any fear. I have made friends from across the globe. You don't need to break the ice, they are friendly and chat to you. If you go, and you don't like it, say never again. But at least you will have tried it. How about go with a friend ? I genuinely wish you luck conquering your fear. It is not easy. But you are not alone.
@@vicsams4431 Thank you for the kind words Vic. You are absolutely correct. And I do like to challenge the introvert inside me. If I do go, I will definitely take a friend along (just as a back up plan)

As local just a short drive away from Banff, I have yet to experience this train! I see it frequently, but I am so grateful for this video. I love seeing train rides in other countries from your channel, but to see local stuff that I drive through or fly over sometimes, just makes this video that much more enjoyable.
This trip is moving towards the top of my list. The first class experience is what I’d expect. It’s a shame there aren’t sleeper cars. I think the experience of sleeping on a train would be fun. Thanks for showing off all the train has to offer.
hey there - the problem with sleeping on the train, is that you miss all the amazing scenery while you are asleep. Van to the Rockies is a fabulous trip, you don't want to miss anything. cheers! ;-)
Wow, how modern the Canadian Train is! It’s quite interesting, when people travel across the US , they just drive their own cars, I would have never known that people can view the Rocky Mountains so closely just by taking on board.
Kamloops is my hometown... We've been watching this train come into our town for over 30 years....meeting some of the people is always a highlight of my childhood.
Thanks for this wonderful video. When I got married in 1968, my husband and I took a train from New Westminster to Jasper, Alberta. The train was also overnight, but the accommodations were not as luxurious as the Rocky Mountainer. Loved seeing all the beautiful scenery in your video.
One of our favorite journeys. Last autumn, We did the round trip from Vancouver to Banff and back again….with several days in the Canadian National Parks in between (Lake Louise and Jasper) It was glorious
I’ve driven threw twice and almost got in a car accident both times because I couldn’t stop taking in the views. Going by train seems like a much better idea
This is something I've always wanted to do. As you can see most passengers are older and wealthy because the trip is quite expensive and younger travelers won't spend over $2,000 for a train ride. I'm glad you got to experience our mountains and are sharing it with the world.
I work as a conductor for CP from Revelstoke to Field. It's nice seeing the Rocky in the summertime. A nice reminder from the long days that were lucky to work in some beautiful country. Hope you enjoyed your time on the CPR!
Greetings from Ireland. My Wife & I did this trip about 2012. Wonderful Memories. After Vancouver, we crossed Canada by Rail to Nova Scotia. A Holiday of a Lifetime.
Really enjoy your videos. My wife has Parkinson's and I'm her caregiver we can't travel like we used to so your videos are a great substitute and also very relaxing after a long day of work and carrying for my wife. Thank you and keep them coming.
Hi Will, brought back memories. We did Vancouver - Banff 8 years ago in August 2014! Boy how time flies, seems like yesterday. You didn't mention that the train splits at Kamloops - although your trip did add the extra carriages from the Jasper portion whereas our "lost" the Jasper connection at Kamloops. I'd love to do it again, but age and costs will probably not allow it.
We did this trip about 15 years ago, phenomenal experience. We were 4 hours late getting in to Vancouver, but the wine and beer flowed to make it "party time".
This trip would be a thin slice of heaven for me, I'm an American who loves Canada with all her heart, and hopefully someday I'll travel as much of the Great White North as possible
Good video. Just back from visiting Alberta and BC. The Rocky Mountaineer Gold Leaf trip from Banff to Vancouver was absolutely incredible. Ever changing sublime landscapes with fantastic food and hospitality. As shown, day one is spent passing through the incredible higger peaks of the Rockies, but the thing the video didn't quite show was how spectacular the day-two leg to Vancouver also is; the rivers, gorges, forests, lakes, and still massive mountains, after leaving Kamloops, are just as fantastic. It was along this part that we saw eagles, osprey, a black bear, mountain sheep, and deer. The whole trip was a scenic and culinary overload of the best kind.
years and years ago my mom and cousin and I had quite a wonderful vacation. First flew to Calgary and saw part of the famous rodeo, rained out. then bussed several miles, then got on what we knew then as the rocky mountaineer. I think three days with nights in motels along the way. The train was not luxury by any means but very enjoyable. Had a lady telling us all about the sights along the way. I remember that the track was privat, but we had to stop to let freight trains pass. We had a wonderful time and the train was only part of the trip, all together two weeks, with the last week on a cruise ship. Your trip made me want to take another trip. Lovely.
I live in Calgary and my dad has always wanted to do this and we have lived in Canada our entire life and seeing this experience makes me wanting to do it as well so thank you!!!
Calgary is a lovely place. I did the Rocky Mountaineer when it went from Vancouver to Calgary. I have since done every railway in Canada (except Churchill) and all five railways in Alaska. Kind regards from London, England.
that coach design is so smart, the outdoor spaces below the observation deck serving as a roof, still allowing space in the middle of the car for other uses too.
I've made this trip many times, but long ago when it was part of the CPR's regular passenger service. How times have changed! You had to take a return trip to see everything because it was non-stop and you slept on the train during the night portion of the trip. One time the train was stuck in the mountains all day while they cleared an avalanche from the tracks. I loved every minute of it. It was also a very cheap way to travel. The price of the new train was really shocking to me.
Welcome to Alberta. I'm glad you had a chance to review Canada's pride and joy. Few other big youtubers have done this route. I wish I knew you were here I would have been happy to guide you.
Big fan of the mountains. Fresh air makes you wild. The wilderness is something to accept, not ignore. Ignorance can be bliss but in the long term will lead to blunder. Imagine a long path with lots of winding sub-paths, that's life. Personally I'm very excited for the Arctic Monkey's next album. Are you?
We took the RM from Vancouver to Banff a couple of months ago and it was an incredible experience. Definitely recommend to anyone considering it. Would love to see you review the new RM USA route as we're considering that for our next trip 😊
As I live in Calgary Canada, growing up I've always wanted to take a scenic train to Vancouver so thank you for the video as it reignited that spark once again
NO WAY! I was secreting hoping you may shoot some video in Kamloops as that is where my moms side of the family live [and I haven't seen them in years, this year I am changing that though!] but yeah as you say you are coming into your overnight stay in Kamloops you shoot my Aunties front porch haha 8:11
Will ? You have taken us on some amazing train rides over the past weeks but this was by far the best. I never knew how beautiful Canada is until I watched this video. The scenery is awesome. I did that trip in 2006 with my father and brother, who came from Germany to my Uni grad. I’ve been to Banff hundreds of times, my brother had been a couple of times, and it was brand new for my father. I will never forget the amazing train ride, and watching people react to the Rockies for the first time. Btw, I’m one of the eagle eyes, pointing out deer, bear and other wildlife. I think the ability to spot animals just happens naturally when you’ve lived here a few years. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. You made an awesome video here.

As much as I love the flights, really enjoying these train reviews and opening up more options of things to do! Oh yeah usual weekly Sunday vibe check in 😉
I've been fortunate enough to have taken this trip 3 times. Although it was opposite direction from Vancouver to Calgary. It helps to know someone who worked there. They were given one free gold leaf package for 2 every year. I got 3 free trips. It was some years ago on the older trains, which quite frankly were probably more comfortable than these newer ones look. I took their Christmas train one year which was pretty cool.

Absolutely awe inspiring landscapes, combined with the splendid joy of a train tour, trains are so much fun! The Vanc to Banff landscapes are all so diverse and fascinating to marvel at from the Rocky Mountains to Desert around Kamloops. So glad you could experience this famous trip whether by train, car or bicycle.
We took this same trip in the middle of May this year and bar none this was one of the best trips we've ever taken.! The food, the staff and the scenery were in our view beyond compare! Our seats were 7&8 which are just behind the stairwell which is similar to a bulkhead. We opted for the gold leaf service. My buddy and I joined what we call The Ski Club or more commonly known as spending kids inheritance! Pay attention to all the info doled out by the staff along the way--historical as well as scenic references because there's a pop quiz on the second day with prizes! I opted for a Rocky Mountaineer key chain by remembering Mt. McDonald! Definitely a trip of a lifetime! Thanks for posting this great travelogue!

If you think that Canadian rules are Draconian consider this: Canada recently passed 40,000 deaths from COVID. Scale that up to the U.S. population it would be 410,000 not the one million plus that they have actually had. Proud to be Draconian.
Another fantastic train vlog will! Really good stuff and ticked off everything you need to know before taking it! Looks so amazing the views do and congrats on 303k subs!
My husband and I have considered taking this trip summer of 2024. You have made it look like a fun and exciting trip. Many years ago we took an Amtrak train from Chicago to Utah. Of course on this trip, we had a sleeper car. It was awful, especially at night. Granted the Rocky Mountaineer puts you up in a hotel each night. I wondered if the Rocky Mountaineer shares a rail with the freight train. Thanks for the video.

This trip is on my bucket list. I live in Ontario, and have been out west once, and would love to take this just to say I did, but at about $2000 a person, that will take a while to justify for 48 hours

Calgary is a lovely place. I did the Rocky Mountaineer when it went from Vancouver to Calgary. Kind regards from London, England.
@@davidmarshall718 On my bus route I have an incredible view of the mountains! And I can walk outside at like 2 am and feel safe! Love this city

The train is so beautiful and spotless clean. As an introvert, I don’t think i’d like the socialising part of the journey 😳
Me neither😁 I think I'd go with a friend, to have someone I know to talk to rather than be forced to awkwardly interact with strangers.
@@ErlonJris Good luck. I wish you a happy time.
@@ErlonJris . Please do try to take this trip and other wonderful travels. I took a 14 day cruise around the pacific island completely on my own. It was wonderful and l had the best of both worlds. Highlight was definitely seeing the kitchen staff having a sense of humour haha
These train videos are awesome. Always fun to see new train designs
Before doing this, i never realised there were so many! Thanks for watching :)
This is a better guide to the Rocky Mountaineer train than you see on tv. A better description of what to expect.
The Canadian Rockies are on my bucket list of things to see. This looks like an amazing way to experience them.
you must do this, whether by car or train. Either way - you are right.in.the.middle.of.it. So awesome and humbling. Best to you!!
Why don't you talk about the HP of your mountain locomotive ?
Greetings from Ireland. My Wife & I did this trip about 2012. Wonderful Memories. After Vancouver, we crossed Canada by Rail to Nova Scotia. A Holiday of a Lifetime.
Really enjoy your videos. My wife has Parkinson's and I'm her caregiver we can't travel like we used to so your videos are a great substitute and also very relaxing after a long day of work and carrying for my wife. Thank you and keep them coming.
That was a great experience and I enjoyed taking it with you. I think I would have preferred sleeping on the train though.
Banff and Lake Louise are amazingly beautiful places. I love that part of the world and need to go back.
years and years ago my mom and cousin and I had quite a wonderful vacation.
As a British person living in Canada not far from Banff would love to do this sometime thanks for taking us along with you
As a British person who has travelled on every railway line in Canada, except Churchill, regards from London, England !
They are one of the best railway companies you are going to encounter. I book them all of the time and they are indescribable with their service.
Honestly so cool to see you do a Canadian tour! And acknowledging the length of some of our freight trains😂
Thanks for the memories Wills. Did this trip Eastbound a couple years ago and must say I’d love to do it again! It was a FLAWLESS experience 😉👍🏻
Fantastic summary of our trip with you Matthew, it truly was memorable !
Always fun time waving to those that come in on the Rocky Mountaineer. One day I'll ride this train ... one day.
PS: Kamloops isn't so bad you know.
Great review! I've made this trip. It's been a highlight of my lifetime of travel experience. Spot on review! Cheers!
As a born and raised British Columbian, this video is a great preview of our area of Canada. The food especially is very pacific northwest Canadian.
I enjoy how you film so to make us aware how it would feel if we were there. Even showing us how you navigate stairs, etc. Good job!
Are you?
Okay 🤔🤨
I traveled on this last month but from Vancouver to Banff, amazing journey, scenes were unbelievable! Banff is the most amazing place I’ve been to
We took the RM from Vancouver to Banff a couple of months ago and it was an incredible experience. Definitely recommend to anyone considering it. Would love to see you review the new RM USA route as we're considering that for our next trip 😊

Will ? You have taken us on some amazing train rides over the past weeks but this was by far the best. I never knew how beautiful Canada is until I watched this video. The scenery is awesome. What a spectacular train journey. The train I thought was the cleanest compared to all other trains you’ve travelled on. Oh and let’s not forget the food which looked so good. I could have eaten the salmon 🍣 and the beef 🥩 steak. This train treck through Canada was so gorgeous it made my heart pound. Well done Will this was fantastic.
Yes the food looked very good.

Hello! Your last two weeks of railroad videos has been fantastic! The Alaska Railroad journey has been on my bucket list for years, but the Rocky Mountaineer trip has been added to the list. Keep the train adventures coming!

I did that trip in 2006 with my father and brother, who came from Germany to my Uni grad. I’ve been to Banff hundreds of times, my brother had been a couple of times, and it was brand new for my father. I will never forget the amazing train ride, and watching people react to the Rockies for the first time.

Pay attention to all the info doled out by the staff along the way--historical as well as scenic references because there's a pop quiz on the second day with prizes! If you think that Canadian rules are Draconian consider this: Canada recently passed 40,000 deaths from COVID.
Scale that up to the U.S. population it would be 410,000 not the one million plus that they have actually had.
Proud to be Draconian.
