Criticized lobbying group for having to much power. Lobbying group, and congress immediately prove her point.
Her brother in law works for the Somali government and she's on record repeatedly praising the dictator there while ignoring the independence movement of the Christians in Somaliland. She is literally the definition of being bought by a foreign government.

Palestinians are responsible
for what is happening to them. Some years back, the west bank and gaza was offered to them but they refused. They wanted all historic palestine for themselves, which included parts of what is today present isreal. They have since accepted, but it's now too late. Palestinians should just accept the gaza and west bank territory they now occupy. The longer they wait, the worst it will be for them as isreal creates new realities on the ground.
Criticizing Israel and/or their Lobbyists is not antisemitism. And she never said anything about Jews having dual-loyalty.
So many bad actors are transposing whatever they want onto her comments, all in an attempt to silence pro-Palestinian voices.
I agree and the fact that she apologized for it makes it worse. I mean, following that logic, criticizing Erdogan or MBS, would be Islamophobic. I think this is wrong on so many levels.
I wouldn’t call them actors. Some people have mistakenly misinterpreted what Omar said, you can blame the media for that mishap. But Angela Davis was also silenced for voicing her concerns about Palestine

There's something deeply distressing to me when individuals are not allowed to criticize the Isreali government without being called "anti-semetic." It essentially means that this government isn't accountable to anyone and every time that someone like Omar is silenced, it means that fewer people will have the courage to talk seriously about these policies which impact so many in the Middle East. I'm not Jewish. My future wife happens to be Jewish as do some of my closest friends. I know that such a thing does not inoculate me from hate speech but I also get rather frustrated at the suggestion that I must be a bigot and hate people I love simply because I don't approve of a foreign government across the world.
I would rather live next door to a Muslim family than a Trump supporter. Wait a minute! Both my next door neighbour's are Muslim, and they are the kindest, most hardworking people I have ever known. One family came from Syria after losing a child to a gas attack, and they have already opened a business and now employee fellow Canadian's.

Here's the thing I don't get: Why is our government on both federal and state levels passing laws that punish Americans for speaking against or boycotting Israel in the 1st place? The 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is supposed to protect the freedoms of speech, press, and protest of AMERICANS from the government, not from foreign governments regardless if they are our ally or not. Additionally, we should be able to be critical of any government without fear of persecution, yet Israel is the only country where we apparently can't and both major Parties seem to be ok with that. Finally, there is a line between being anti-Semitic and just being critical of Israel/pro-Israeli pacs and businesses, but it seems that anyone with a minor criticism of either is automatically labeled as being anti-Semitic, yet that almost never happens when someone speaks out against any other religious or ethnic group.
Update: 1 question I left out: Why are we letting lobbiests from other countries (not just Israel) basically bribing out polticians to benefit their country when they could benefit their own countries themselves (unless they are just corrupt)?

Her comments were not about being Jewish! It’s about manipulation of a political system through lobbying by minority interests that are detrimental to the majority.
By extension, It’s about being a supporter of right-wing governments in any nation irregardless of your religious choice and/or belief and the enforcement of such right-wing views upon another government to the point of shaping that government and its policies with severely skewed and biased influence. No one criticizing political corruption and hardline policies should be accused of anti-semitism and yet it constantly happens making that label just about obsolete (and yet is used to smear people who don’t agree or question and criticize) and THAT is the real danger because it allows people to actually be anti-Judaism and against people of the Jewish faith without being called on it. I don’t want to have people walking around shouting “Jews will not replace us” which is abhorrent and truly anti-semitic. And neither do I wish to have people who criticize the Israeli government and lobbies supporting their right-wing agenda be accused and ostracized for speaking the truth. In Ilhan Omar’s case she was merely criticizing the lobbyists who wield such corrupt power over the US government to the detriment of peace in the world and the political well-being of the United States. There are people of Jewish faith and citizens of Israel who don’t even support the right-wing governments of Israel.
Equating anti-semitism with questioning or criticizing a right-wing government, be it in Israel or anywhere else, is basically untrue and highly dangerous and yet that has been the CONFUSING norm for almost as long as America has been a world power. These false anti-semitism charges hurt Jews as well as anyone who wishes to speak up, tell the truth and criticize corrupt and criminal behaviors let alone the problem of manipulation of the American political system. You can be a Jew, Muslim, Christian or whatever you wish, and that is your complete right which should be defended by all, however, our right to be able to critique any political system that suffers from corruption should also be defended, not removed by ourselves because we happen to disagree or worse, because we harbor a badly hidden prejudice towards another religion (Islam).

Also who owned Israel before it became a state? Should the owners of land be allowed to give it to whomever they like? How did the European Jews arrive in Europe and why did they leave? Not all of then did, hence why the British kept having to send troops there to stop Muslims from killing Jews, long before Israel was a state. For example the Hebron Massacre. As someone who is Jewish and had family that both died and survived the holocaust I've always taken anti-semititsm very personally and I can say that I was not offended by her comments. Nothing she said there was anti-semitic she just trashed on the lobbying in congress. The hypocrisy on the right to condemn her but not all the anti-semitic things their politicians say is just egregious

Would've been good to give more context on the "allegiance" reference. House Democrats beginning their session instantly working on anti-BDS legislation, already enforced in many states where federal workers must pledge essentially not to criticize Israel.

In part, because it sounds like she's saying that Jewish lobbying groups are buying support for Israel. In part, because Benjamin is a Jewish name. Now of course the saying originally simply means that it's all about money -- Benjamin Franklin (who of course wasn't Jewish) is on the American hundred-dollar bill. But using that particular saying -- as opposed to, say, "Money has too much power over policy makers" -- was ill-advised on her part.

Yes she should, since that is not how AIPAC functions. It's actually not a PAC. It is nonetheless an effective PR agency for Israel and a corrupt one at that, but they don't donate to campaigns. Politicians are not paid to be pro-Israel or even to write anti-BDS policy. There are other factors such as authoritarian tendencies, other unrelated pro-Israel lobbying groups (e.g. NORPAC), evangelism, defense contractors, Saudi interests (mutual enemies of Iran and what-not), etc. To only pin it on Jewish money from AIPAC is not only offensive, but inaccurate. It was a very myopic thing to say.

Israel's constitution dictate exclusive rights of self determination to its jewish population, and denies it to Christians and Muslims, which are (excluding the displaced refugees that are guaranteed the right of return according to international law ) a sizable population. I am from Minnesota's 5th district, and am proud to have voted for Ilhan Omar. She is doing a great job bringing tough questions to the table. Telling someone to be supportive of AIPAC in order to be on the committee of foreign affairs is worthy of criticism.
I would never have thought that her comments were meant to be against Jews. I took /take it as Lobbiest paying to have their agenda pushed.

He’s like a second father to her. I’ve met and have spoken with Joe. Stand up regular guy. A real family man, and someone who gets along with thise from BOTH parties. I miss people like him, Colin Powell, and others who seem to have little in common with the polarized public. We are in a diseased atmosphere, and could use the likes of Joe Lieberman.
That's the only thing I'll give props to the GOP; they know exactly what their voters are thinking.
Very few liberals had a single problem with what she said, yet dems ignored their voters and once again fell for the "fake outrage" of the right and left a very very popular, up and coming Democrat out to dry over nothing.
Republicans took an issue of lobbying and twisted it into antisemitism and Democrats fell right into their trap.
I think the Dems also had a more nefarious reason behind it, to isolate the truly progressive dems in order to maintain the establishment dems position on things. They want Omar to lose credibility beyond just this issue but on things that are on the progressive agenda but not the establishment's. They're happy to have her name tarnished.

Is it really falling into a trap if you willingly dug the hole? Senior Dems have ties to AIPAC too and the money they get from such donors outranks the will of voters and party loyalty (when convenient). That's the key problem and has been for years which is why people like Omar, Talib, AOC, etc have been voted in and are getting the cold shoulder from their party leaders even when they are attacked by the GOP who has an actual open White Supremacist sympathizer in their party!
I stand with my Minnesota Rep and the Dems better get their collective $hit together and start supporting each other. I am so sick of us shooting ourselves in the foot.
