Great gift idea. Well executed. I've seen some of the Japanese boxes also incorporate a dovetail wedge and stop interface, to ensure that the wedge can't just pop out.
I would suggest a slight bevel on the locking mechanism. Make it more like a dovetail. That would make is so that the key must be slid to the side and cannot pop out the front.
Great content. I need to get those boxes started soon. The wedge is a neat addition instead of just a sliding lid. Very cool. Thanks for showing the laser work also. I had never seen the tape being applied before the burn. You might consider show casing some laser work by Nicole.
Marc, this video has everything a dude could want. Dad jokes, stylish threads, power tools and hand tools galore, and a finished product that anyone would be happy to receive.
I had an idea to make cheap pine boxes like this and have them come apart when opened. The the box pieces and shavings could be used as fire starter. Because camp fire + booze = good time. I’m lazy though, so I’m still just thinking about it.
Nice work 😊 explained really well. Covered everything and through in some down to earth dad stuff. Neat box 👍 was really awesome of you to through in the plans too.
Thank you Marc. I had some left over eight quarter walnut scrap, and was sick of making inside out Christmas ornaments. Wonderful idea. I'm excited to get back into the shop again
@woodwhisperer It is funny hearing you're using hide glue after listening to the you from 16 years ago talk about the stuff on my way in to work today. I'm enjoying the early podcasts after coming to love its more recent years. Happy Thanksgiving! 👊
Merry Christmas to you and your wonderful family, thank you thank you thank you. I think this will be a perfect time to rip down some hardwood now that I have a saw that can! Christmas is my Kryptonite!
I think there is an error in your cut list plans. The long sides should be 14 1/8 instead of 14 1/16 if you are shooting for a 1/16 over on both ends. You have the short sides correct at 4 1/8.
I thought wood shavings were not good to use for packing materials for bottles? I get the esthetic of it, and thought before to do that also, but the fact that they compress and don’t spring back seems like it wouldn’t be good for shipping.
That box is going to get regifted. Should have skipped the tree and just put “special occasional crap”. That way it can circulate more than one short season per year.
Really beautiful work, Marc! 😃 It looks great and I bet whoever gets it is going to use it much after the wine ends! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
I use painters tape to cover my projects before lasering all the time, works a treat - I can then fill and wipe away the excess without it ruining the finish undee it.
Great project. Definitely on my list to try. One thing I may change is finding a way to attach a string or small chain to the wedge piece so it doesn't get lost.....because I'd be the first to lose it.
But seriously though, you might be able to use a hydraulic press to make some fire briquettes from your old sawdust. Sell some artesian fire logs for Christmas. Name them something creative like "Marks Steamy Logs" or something, you're a creative guy, you'll figure something out.
Why is no one talking about how the box on the right has the wedge in a different direction (compared to the other two)? I expected to come here to see this comment already. Now...at least someone else may come here to see THIS comment. Also, sweet gift box. I dig this idea. Only giving you grief because I noticed it. But, of course that says things about what I notice...
Save $15 off your Duluth Trading Co. purchase of $50 or more in stores or online with code TWW15 - dlth.co/TWW15
You dumped the sawdust at Drew Fisher's house didn't you?
Love it. Very well done.
Great gift idea. Well executed. I've seen some of the Japanese boxes also incorporate a dovetail wedge and stop interface, to ensure that the wedge can't just pop out.
Japanese tool boxes do use dovetailed-like wedging for the top end pieces at one end of the box. Makes for a nice secure fit.
Love the box and being a family dude myself I love the inclusion of the family and pets to make it a bit funnier to watch.
Thank you for the plans! I'm going to make this for my sister for her birthday.
Sweet looking wine box! I’m a big fan of Duluth clothes too, they are super comfortable and last forever. Their shorts are awesome.
Those came out great! Love the simple design and the personal touch with the glowforge
Thanks man!
The Duluth advertising was a welcome addition. Thanks for sharing the gift box idea, I’ll definitely be borrowing this.
OK. The Duluth segment should really be it's own video clip. Great stuff! 😅

I like that little box!
It's been fun watching Marc grow, evolve and become older than me!
Another excellent video! I like that it's influenced by a Japanese toolbox.
Great content. I need to get those boxes started soon. The wedge is a neat addition instead of just a sliding lid. Very cool. Thanks for showing the laser work also. I had never seen the tape being applied before the burn. You might consider show casing some laser work by Nicole.
Ok. The ad made it for me 😂😂😂

Good idea done well Thanks
At least you sponsor ad is funny. Thanks for posting the wine box plans.
Thumbs up for Oreo

Love the new background Marc!
The Oreo segment was awesome!😊
Thank you Marc. I had some left over eight quarter walnut scrap, and was sick of making inside out Christmas ornaments. Wonderful idea. I'm excited to get back into the shop again
Treleaven wine?! Ha - that winery is right here where I live in Central NY - Fingerlakes area. Pretty tasty wine and a beautiful winery!

Merry Xmas 🎅 with Thanks 🌲
Great idea!
I always glue first, ask questions later
Nice!
This would pair perfectly with 'Mockingbird Wine Drink', the $8-est bottle of wine from the finest vineyard in Arkansas.
Merry Christmas to you and your wonderful family, thank you thank you thank you. I think this will be a perfect time to rip down some hardwood now that I have a saw that can! Christmas is my Kryptonite!
Great project. And I’ve got some time this weekend!
Totally love this!! I might make one in the future. Thanks for sharing!! Much ❤️ Marc!!
For 2 reasons 1 and B, haha switched it up
haha finally someone noticed! :)
Nice work

Like the Japanese tool box inspiration on this one. Very cool.
How about a video on your CNC Mark. I got one a couple of years ago and just curious to what you're using yours for
Hey gizanked? I know that guy!
I thought wood shavings were not good to use for packing materials for bottles? I get the esthetic of it, and thought before to do that also, but the fact that they compress and don’t spring back seems like it wouldn’t be good for shipping.
Correct it would not be good to use for shipping. We aren’t shipping them
Stop wood working you are a fantastic fit GQ a see modeling in your future 😂
Maybe one day!
Just curious, what size bottle will fit in there? I am looking to gift a bottle of whiskey that is fairly tall compared to some wine bottles…
Hi, anyone knows where I can find the laser file for the Christmas tree on the cover of the wine box? We own a Ortur laser.
Where can I buy the woodshavings?
What does every think a good selling price for this would be?
Fun video and project. Think i'll just cut the whole thing on the laser though.
ATTENTION MEEEEEEE!!!!!!!
Would it be possible to get an SVG/image of the Christmas tree?
There isn't one. It was just an image we found on Canva and imported directly into the Glowforge software.
Is this the wood whisperer from Flint Hill?
Yes we are located in Flint Hill\Wentzville
looks great. how did you make that zero clearance insert on the miter saw? I like that.
I was also curious about that.
Is it wrong for me to say I enjoyed the ad spot more than the woodworking project?
Oh yea, why don't you wine about it some more :P
That box is going to get regifted. Should have skipped the tree and just put “special occasional crap”. That way it can circulate more than one short season per year.
The word “ask” is not a noun
OH but it is. www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/ask See that! You can learn more than just woodworking here. :)
Hah!! You're definitely a perfect spokes-model for Duluth. (also my favorite clothing company)
We need more Oreo!
I'm just here for the ads!
Attractive. Simple. Elegant. Functional. Outstanding.👍👍 And overall not too bad. 😇 Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
Really beautiful work, Marc! 😃
It looks great and I bet whoever gets it is going to use it much after the wine ends!
Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Love the box and video. Nice touch on the Mario Wonder sticker at 1:15 :)
Nice to see Oreo inspecting your work! 🤣🤣 Love the idea for a gift box!
Good kitty!
Great idea thanks for sharing
Hi Marc. take this any way you like. but I really your box
😳😂
4:00 The creepy little nipple rub! 🤣🤣
Great video! Stopped wasting money on taping before engraving. A little isopropyl alcohol or some light 220 grit removes burning. Happy thanksgiving!
I would really like to make my brother in-law and sister something like this for Christmas. I’m just a beginner so so I’m unsure I could pull it off.
Love it! Enjoyed the humor and Christmas movie references.
what bevel gauge are you using?
Thanks, mate 😀
Another nice project. As for your modelling, since it supports your woodworking empire I won't say anymore:)
,a cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you……
I use painters tape to cover my projects before lasering all the time, works a treat - I can then fill and wipe away the excess without it ruining the finish undee it.
You guys were perfectly on brand for Duluth! 😉
Love the box, will have to use this!
Our cat fishes for hubbies undies 😂
Always such a pleasure to watch and learn from you!!
Great project. Definitely on my list to try. One thing I may change is finding a way to attach a string or small chain to the wedge piece so it doesn't get lost.....because I'd be the first to lose it.
FIRST! 😜
YOU DID IT! 🎉
This is a perfect idea for someone that works for me who is retiring in December!
Cool gift idea and thanks for sharing it with us!
Thanks!
Welcome! Thank you!!
Nice set of boxes! Boxen?
Very nice box lol 😝
My hubby says try "sax"
I think the real gift is the friends we made along the way.
But seriously though, you might be able to use a hydraulic press to make some fire briquettes from your old sawdust. Sell some artesian fire logs for Christmas. Name them something creative like "Marks Steamy Logs" or something, you're a creative guy, you'll figure something out.
That's the f****g long ad 😢
Thanks!
What paper does Nicole use for her laser engraving? Great project! 10:43
This is the stuff she uses: amzn.to/3SLGTvK
@woodwhisperer thank you for your response!
