The carrying case is useful, reveals equipment for testing. Retains lid and holds leads. Would be nice to see a case for multimeters that do the same and hold additional leads like clips and thermocouples, so case is an extension of the test equipment.
Agreed. I used a generic case for a clamp meter for the very purpose of storing extra test leads and alligator clips. I can't stress enough the usefulness of alligator clips in the field.

I regret I don't know if such a test is possible or safe as I am not familiar with it. In practice, the instrument should not damage any electrical insulation material under test at only 250V. But I cannot say for certain how DC insulation test voltages would affect the particular separator materials you mentioned.
