Don Ohlmeyer died recently, September 10th to be exact. First he fires Norm from SNL and then he dies one day before the anniversary of September 11th probably to get out of remembering the victims of that national tragedy. I mean this guy was a real jerk.
Even though I was 9 years old at this time I still miss it dearly. Everything just felt so much more awesome and I guess growing up during those times played a large part but I dunno.. even people's attitudes felt more positive during those times. Everything just feels so fake and stale and anything genuine gets shat on and dismissed these days.
Part of the aging process The world is not going to hell. 1960 when I was nine the world was more wondrous. At least it seemed that way!! But at 68 it still is!! Perhaps more so....there was no Internet!! I can listen to Hendrix or watch norm whenever I want..I can travel on amazing jets...always look on the bright side of life!! Imagine whistling!!
Dave's "couldn't create gas after a bean dinner" is a version of Johnny's "couldn't ad-lib a fart after a baked bean dinner", which itself was probably an old vaudevillean/street line. Johnny said it about Chevy Chase.
Dave literally saying come here. He knows, but Norm ended up ok. He's really one of the funniest people ever. Smashingly great delivery. It's nuts. So good
Apparently Dave lobbied for Norm to get the Late Late Show hosting gig, in 1999 when Tom Snyder left. Unfortunately, the bigwigs ended up choosing the mostly talentless mannequin named Craig Killborn. (At least Craig Ferguson ended up doing something amazing with the LLS, before James Corden shitted it up once again).
Norm should've hosted the Late Late show... would've been magic... and then he couldve taken over the lateshow.. it wouldve been the best fairy tale ending ever
😂🤣 Here’s to when you’re watching this like it happened yesterday, and then they run commercials talking about how The Big Lebowski is the big hit of 1998...and then you do the math and you feel really, really, REALLY old. Cheers!
This may be Norm’s funniest Letterman appearance. Absolutely brilliant. I love how Norm is so inherently funny, he gets laughs just for staring at Dave and saying “It was that very day…” about 1:05
he speaks like he's an ordinary guy, when in fact he is the quickest, smartest guy in the room. pair this with a very strong vocabulary and turn of phrase, and its deadly. simplest example "so i says to the guy"
Yup, that's intentional. He said that no one likes the smartest guy in the room. If you listen to genuine interviews he does, you can hear the "real" Norm. Love the guy.
Yes.. that's what i was expecting Norm to say at the end.. that it wasn't a Bed and Breakfast but just some old guy's house lol. That would made it much funnier. I wonder if Norm just forgot the punchline or ran out of time.
Watch Norm say good bye to Dave on his last show. These two men loved each other. Everyone loved Norm. Miss him. Omg he could tell a story that means nothing and make it funny.
Old Harold Delaney is my client. We intend to file a $1 billion defamation claim against David, Norm, and Paul. The case is captioned “Old Harold Delaney v. David Letterman, Worldwide Pants, LLC, Norman MacDonald, and Paul Schaefer.”
It is so hard to explain to someone how hilarious Norm McDonald is. He just is.
"Anything on the top shelf" What a great line.
You can tell how much Dave loved having norm as a guest
Never used to think this guy was funny. Now I 'get it' and he's the funniest guy I've ever heard.
A Hill wow, that was a pretty quick turnaround
I agree! Back in the day I thought of him as just another comedian but now that I have been studying his work the guy is brilliant. I want to be Norm!
Exactly the same 4 me
You’ve just grown older. Which is basically how people who gets norms jokes are.
@@chinaman1 yep 25 im an old chunk of coal haha :D

aXe m fantastic hahaha
Worse than Albert Fish
aXe m :-)!
aXe m haha, that's something norm would say
Aw, don't make fun of 9/11 man, I walked through blood and bones.
Such loyalty and care from David. By god.
You don't hear Letterman laughing like at 11:06 often. Norm is a legend.
"I went to his office and its this big office"
Everything he says is funny.
That's my favourite part of the whole clip
Ascher Zopf how long are you contractually obligated? I’m bound to them contractually...
Norm's always been such a wonderful storyteller. And a brilliant troll. IMO. :)
Never watched him. I didn't see him as funny. Now luv him and realize I missed a lot of him. He's hilarious.
RIP Norm. 😇
The Big Lebowski movie trailers at the end of this clip....awesome!
"Dirty Work"is such an underrated film.
Absolutely.
Norm is the world's funniest guy!
Or so the germans would have us believe
Norm is so good with his quick wit. It’s always the journey thats entertaining. RIP Norm

Vladislav hang in there kiddo :)
What were you doing up so late.
Norm is an aquired taste and.. my lord.. once you get it your are addicted
Yes, I’m hopelessly addicted to Normahol
Thank god for the hatchery without it we’d all be lost.
That old chunk of coal, heard him use that “never heard tell of a _____” vernacular many times in many stories. A treasure Norm is.

A master.
The date of this show is March 6th, 1998 for all my OCD friends.
DDhide14 very interesting, thanks for sharing
what year was she born?
That was the same night that
@@neuron05 that very night?
I'm a courageous, classy dude.
🤗
RIP Legend
‘It was that very day’.... followed by long uncomfortable look... 😂
Norm didn't get to finish the story. His long-winded stories always have a great punchline.
Yeah I was waiting to see the the old guy's response to Norm's question as to why he was taking so long on his scrabble moves.
Bob Kendall is on fire hee.
Wasnt he on SNL?
That trailer for the big Lebowski at the end is the perfect cherry on top to one of my favorite norm clips
This is a great interview.
Norm should have his own late night show
Hilarious. And thanks for including those Big Lebowski commercials at the end. Weird to see it advertised to the general public like that.

I’m here cause I listened to howie mandel and I looked up Jan 7 1998
This may be Norm’s funniest Letterman appearance. Absolutely brilliant. I love how Norm is so inherently funny, he gets laughs just for staring at Dave and saying “It was that very day…” about 1:05
Like how he gives Dave that steadfast smiling gaze .
Miss him so much.
A guy who could not create gas after a bean dinner...🤣🤣🤣🤣
True love.
Rest in peace, you will be missed.
I love how this ends with a commercial for the Big Lebowski.
Young(er) Letterman had a lot more balls than I remember.
Dirty work is such an underrated movie
really enjoy corn McDonald
So not only do I get the to laugh my ass off with Norm but then you throw in Lebowski too...?
Very well played.
OLD HERALD DELANEY
DON OHLMAYER
GUYS ITS A MIX UP.
NORMAN MACNDONALD AND DAVID LETTERMAN
almost the best joke ever.
Wow, I had forgotten that Big Lebowski was so old. Great movie.
I live in Victoria.. Harold was pretty cool....for a 90-year-old
I like how you left in the two commercials at the end
"he's a...quisling?" "yes!!..no..no"
Maria K "I smelled a Quisling."
The Big Lebowski preview making the cut at the end was a nice touch, good throwback.
Ahhhh he's a good man
'Dirty Work' was decent. I liked it as a kid cuz I loved Norm and Chris Farley and Artie Lange. And I was really into revenge stuff and pranks.
burns in all directions
"avocado" -- crowd goes "whooa what an exotic word" yep this is 1998
anything on the top shelf, lmao
I dont get that one
@K A I thought it was like top shelf booze. Like how at some bars the expensive booze is on the top shelf behind the bar.
@@swashbuckler139 As if Norm had won a carnival game Ohlmeyer was working; "knock over the pins, get any prize on the top shelf."
the beginning song is "she's gone" by hall and oates
walk on music sounds like "hold me now" by johnny logan, Irish Eurovision winner
altho maybe you're right 🤔
I always liked that Dave would get petty
Dave ,I have finally seen your balls ,you are the man
"This just in! OJ Simpson - still guilty !!" LOL

Mr. Pretty Boy, Mr. Cufflinks-and-Cologne, Don Ohlmeyer.
I bet this story was going to end with: It was the wrong house!
Yes.. that's what i was expecting Norm to say at the end.. that it wasn't a Bed and Breakfast but just some old guy's house lol. That would made it much funnier. I wonder if Norm just forgot the punchline or ran out of time.
Norm is gangster
Watch Norm say good bye to Dave on his last show. These two men loved each other. Everyone loved Norm. Miss him. Omg he could tell a story that means nothing and make it funny.
"He couldn't create gas after a bean dinner." Isn't that the same thing Johnny Carson said about Chevy Chase?
Where do I go to buy hoodies I need to know!
Can you get me an Egg 'cMuffin.
Check out my collection of Norm Macdonald stand up if you feel like it.
anyone know what song the bands playing because it absolutely SLAPS
OLD HAROLD DELANEY
The Dude abides
"Well im a courageous classy dude" 🤣
...to the very end.😔
The stuff he could come up with was so funny
He should open a B&B
Does anyone know the song the band is playing when norm comes in? Is it a song or a melody they came up with?? All help is appreciated
Nico Patella that’s not my leg you’re pullin 😉
I hope Harold Delaney got better at scrabble later in life.
So, should I watch The BIG Lebowski or not?
dave states Don Ohlmeyer he couldn't create gas after a bean dinner...lol.. oh my
Norm is the comedian version of the Dude.
"Note to self: i dont want to live"
8:43 no he wasnt
10:22
11:25
13:27 (Just noticed now after watching these things sporadically over a couple of years that he says "Egg EggMuffin")
Lol "aboot" Norm sure is canadian
A boot
Could not create gas after a bean dinner!!!
AV-acado
Did any one catch the fuckin Dude at the end of the show? That really drew the clip together
Eggikmuffin.
he looks like kickboxer Don Frye
+farerse No he doesn't
farerse no he doesn't and Don Frye isn't a kick boxer he's a boxer a black belt in judo and an all American wrestler
Did you know Billy Crystal named the cow from City Slickers Norman after Norm Mac Donald...…….just pulling your leg or am I?
" aboot" very Canadian .
can dave come out of retirement???
Current late shows compared to this? That’s a laugh
Harold Delaney sounds like the original ol chunk of coal.
only 2 B's in a scrabble set. so how did he spell "Boot" without using"raBBit"?
I Guess each round ends early, considering how old Harold Delaney gets like 30-40 points after just 1 round.
Maybe old Harold drew the letter B on the blanks that were missing
I miss this old chunk of coal ❤️
Old Harold Delaney is my client. We intend to file a $1 billion defamation claim against David, Norm, and Paul. The case is captioned “Old Harold Delaney v. David Letterman, Worldwide Pants, LLC, Norman MacDonald, and Paul Schaefer.”
😧 1 Billion Dullar Lawsuit eh? 😊
🤨 Good luck with that! 😁
Tell me Mike, what color is the sky in your world? 🤔
Too many Clinton jokes on Weekend Update.

The unable value july sip because golf quantitatively blink plus a small scooter. attractive, juvenile shake
I don't get. Norm Macdonald can't say a simple sentence without stumbling all over himself. God bless him but not my cup of tea.
