It's so cool to see Norm's confidence on stage growing over time. I also like how right behind his Canadian Farm Boy facade is the dark, twisted, vulgar genius we all love.
Yeah, you'd have to say the farm boy stuff is really quite laid on, since Quebec City and Ottawa are medium-sized cities. Both are also capitals, both, even back then, with the better part of a million residents. Both did probably have a lot of people only a generation or two off the land, and maybe the Macdonalds were among them. But then, if you consider not only Norm's success but the success and repute that his brother Neil has attained as a globetrotting journalist, in a career made up of the most difficult assignments his profession has to offer (decades in the Middle East and Washington DC), it's hard to suppose they really came from rustics. I'm guessing you already thought all this; I just wanted to say it anyway.

Yeah but you'll notice in the first few years he didn't even get to sit in the chair next to Dave and be interviewed . Then the first time he does get to sit next to Dave where he's wearing white pants you see they don't have time to interview him it's just time to say goodbye and you see Norm's legs moving up and down pretty fast kind of nervous like . Although you would think comedians felt they hit the big time when they get on these late-night shows but the truth is that usually didn't consider it big time until they got to sit next to the show host and get interviewed and that didn't happen to him for a while from what I can see here unless they were left out but I don't believe they were . So if he didn't get to sit next to Dave for several years it makes you wonder if maybe it first Dave was a little bit standoffish towards him and then maybe started to like him after a while

Best story teller of my time. I never knew what was coming. Funniest comic of my time, with all due respect to George Carlin. ❤✌ RIP, Norm. Miss you already 🤣🇨🇦😎
Omg! Norm did the celebrity golf tournament joke that Mike Birbiglia does in his act. Wait... who did it first? I'm assuming Norm did by the date of the show. Wow.
As brilliant as he was, he took a time to grow into his final brilliant self.
Revolver wasn't the first Beatles album. It takes time to grow into your potential!!!
He was an old guy in a younger man's body, took time for him to grow into his true self.
they´re french, so we don´t really care. - that´s the greatest sentence i´ve ever heard
@phosphorescent wave I'm from Quebec and yep, never gonna happen. Truth is I didn't even know that Norm was from my city that's fucking amazing! I thought he was from Ontario.
Had to come back to this video series after hearing the awful news. Needed these laughs. RIP to one of the most brilliant minds in comedy❤️💔
So great to have all these together. Some I haven't seen which was a bonus!
You’re the man for uploading this, appreciate it
He sure did make that 1991 crowd nervous when he was talking about homeless bums.
Where you think they get their audience every single day. Jk
Everyone loves homeless bum jokes under insert name
Of bridge.
Usually old comedian videos on UA-cam have comments like "These jokes couldn't exist today!" It's extremely refreshing to see someone take note of the audience response 30yrs ago.
18:23 for Letterman taking off his jacket real quick. Rest is history
legendary
i don’t understand
11:24 is my favorite part. He looks shocked, and generally shocked to be on the couch
Thank you for compiling all of these. Lots of work!
Finally some new content for I'm not Norm to use!!!
I’ve been looking at others’ Norm uploads tonight, and it makes me consider continuing the series with vastly superior videos than what’s been put up.
@@dongiller please upload them especially the late 90s. A better quality of them like this compilation you put up would be highly appreciated for us Norm fans.
@@dongiller Please do this.
BTW are these VHS transfers?
YoureRatherDumb I did. See the description for the links.
Some are, some aren’t.
@@dongiller thank you for your work!
I'm just watching the beginning of Norm's start. Cool how Dave admired one of the funniest guys ever. So glad Norm brought his Canadian humour to the USA. RIP.
Thanks for posting these compilations, Don Giller.
You're a legend, Don. Thanks so much for this.
Excellent, excellent, excellent!
Thank you, Mr. Don Giller!
Just heard the very sad news. The first time I saw Norm I didn't get it. I thought it was so blatantly unfunny. Years later I came back to his stuff like what he did on Letterman and HOLY COW he was so smart and talented. RIP to a very funny man
I've watched this compilation a whole bunch of times but had ALWAYS just cut the video after the last interview, because I figured it was over.
So I just heard "I get to OJ THE TURKEY" for the first time, and laughed my ass off.
Norm macdonald - truly, the gift that keeps on giving. Rest in peace, ya old chunk of coal.
The expertise in off the cuff badinage on display here tells me these are fine comedians!
Thank you Don, for compiling these.
Before Norm joined SNL i saw hiim do that "its me Bob" bit on Comedy Central when they had small stand up comic shows and somehow he stood out as being hysterical.
Love this old chunk of coal
