I had spent an entire year depressed after I split with my ex and no longer lived with my son. He was my world and I could barely function. I spent that year rebuilding myself and consuming all things Norm in my downtime. His comedy was the greatest escape from my deep pain and kept me from doing anything stupid to myself. When he passed I wept. It’s weird how someone you’ve never met can have such a profound impact on your life, but his comedy was inadvertently an integral part of regaining myself. Thanks Norm. I feel the same way my friend. In the depths of problems I came across this wonderful, wonderful comic when I was thinking bad things and this great man pulled me out. I loved Norm. Keep strong my friend.
It's so cool to see Norm's confidence on stage growing over time. I also like how right behind his Canadian Farm Boy facade is the dark, twisted, vulgar genius we all love.
Yeah, you'd have to say the farm boy stuff is really quite laid on, since Quebec City and Ottawa are medium-sized cities. Both are also capitals, both, even back then, with the better part of a million residents. Both did probably have a lot of people only a generation or two off the land, and maybe the Macdonalds were among them. But then, if you consider not only Norm's success but the success and repute that his brother Neil has attained as a globetrotting journalist, in a career made up of the most difficult assignments his profession has to offer (decades in the Middle East and Washington DC), it's hard to suppose they really came from rustics. I'm guessing you already thought all this; I just wanted to say it anyway.
“What are you, zero?” The earliest standup joke that I can remember, I heard this bit as a kid and it always stayed with me. Norm was a constant comedy presence my entire life
His second appearance on Letterman was my first time seeing him. When he finished with the Meadowlark Lemon bit, I remember thinking that I have found my favorite comedian. So sad to have him gone. Memory Eternal, Norm
I watch Norm MAC-Donald clips daily. Of course to have a good laugh, but mostly to just smile. He really made me smile because he seemed genuinely sweet, and his eyes sparkled ✨ , especially when he knew that Dave delighted in his company, as all of us delighted in sort of his company. His mannerisms I know by heart now, all as fetching as the day is long. And yes, he was oh so handsome. I'll miss Norm forevermore because he was 1-of-a-kind, truly. P.S. "He says to me he says to me he says..."-

What I absolutely love about Norm is that he is SO comfortable sitting back in the (his) pocket, and is happy to wait until (or if) you join him. And either is fine with him.
Norm has this adorable little nervous habit of touching his stomach/chest with his hands. He's done it since the beginning and even in his most recent comedy specials, he still does it. It's utterly charming.
Yep he had stomach cancer and I have to wonder if all the times we thought it looked cute that maybe he wasn't feeling good or was even in pain because his friends said he basically had stomach cancer most of his adult life but had beat it twice before but in the end he had it for 9 years and didn't want anyone to know , not even his family .
I’m assuming it has something to do with his past stomach cancer. Can’t prove it but it makes sense that he would subconsciously touch it. It was rather endearing.
Devastatingly handsome, razor sharp wit, superior intelligence... what a loss for our society... why he was not an international superstar is beyond me... RIP, Norm.

Then the first time he does get to sit next to Dave where he's wearing white pants you see they don't have time to interview him it's just time to say goodbye and you see Norm's legs moving up and down pretty fast kind of nervous like . Although you would think comedians felt they hit the big time when they get on these late-night shows but the truth is that usually didn't consider it big time until they got to sit next to the show host and get interviewed and that didn't happen to him for a while from what I can see here unless they were left out but I don't believe they were .
