These guys were too great live or in the studio. Sammy's singing here was out of this world.......he does some incredibly difficult lines here and there. You got very lucky to see them several times. 👏👏👏 I saw them once 😉
@@tannhauser1mm927 You can't over-state just how out of this world they were, especially from 1978 thru 1986. The level of musicianship, showmanship, technical mastery and athleticism onstage will never be equaled. Bands like this and MUSICIANS like this don't happen but once. I've always been grateful that I got to be here for it. Even then, I knew it was special and unrepeatable.
This feels like the ultimate high school talent show entry. The one where you know the kids and knew they were talented, but when you heard them play you thought, "Holy Sh*t, I had no idea!"

I have no doubt as VH progressed Ed used to teach Mike how HE wanted the bass played on certain songs. No doubt. But Ed when he was pissed at Mike would say he "had to teach him" how to play bass.

I too, am a Dutch Indonesian, who's aunt and uncle immigrated from Amsterdam Holland to the United States. My Dad and Mom, brother and sister came by boat to New York with the Van Halen family. Dutch Indonesian's are referred to, as "Indo's", not Dutch - American's. Just saying, wonder why my fellow kinfolk "Van Halen's" didn't address their heritage as being Dutch Indonesian and being "Indo's" ???
This is such a sweet video. How did people get in to see a rehearsal back in the day? I have never been to Cabo? Definitely look like the place to party. I saw them when they headlined the monsters of rock. I think that was 1989. What a show they put on with the scorpions. Long ass day at giants stadium but great memories ❤❤❤❤❤
This was Ed's club in Cabo, he sold it to Sammy and Sammy still has it, I've been and seen them do a birthday party there, it was amazing in 1992.

31 years ago today , Eddie was there 35 yrs ,Alex 37yrs , Michael 36yrs , Sammy 43 yrs , this line up was from 1985 till 1996 -- then 2003 till 2005

Thats foolishness bruh. The old plexi marshall with the variac dropped to 89 volts , that’s what gave vh1 and all the other vintage vh albums the brown sound . If it wasn’t for the plexi with the variac high gain amps wouldn’t be what they would be today including the soldano.

Summer nights. No one before or after Eddie has tapped the way he did. It was musical and a true extension of how he played. Not just something to do. Miss this band and so sad they just couldn’t get past whatever differences they had to give it one more go. Can’t imagine how huge that tour would have been had they reunited.

Damn his tone through the Soldano sounded very clear/articulate and almost hifi sounding but very beefy at the same time. I thought it came out great considering the sonic quality of the recording and the age of the recording .

maybe...but Steve Stevens has told many stories of Edtelling him(STEVE)to record with the Marshalls,and take the 5150's on the road.So all those Sammy era tones that most of us players hate,is still his old marshalls that have been processed to death.
H and C this was also due to the Eventide Harmonizer Ed starting using more heavily around that time.
I believe they played "Dazed and confused " of the cuff (with some short cuts) and nailed it in their own way ... Eddie was and is the Greatest - R'n'R Guitarplayer - OAT ....

No. Van Halen was as popular as ever after Nirvana came out. Alot of 80s bands might have gone away but VH definitely did not.

It's not even close. Wrong headstock, stripes end in the wrong places. Body shape isn't the same. String tree missing. String retainer isn't circular. Thumb wheel at base of neck. Cheap Floyd model, not German. New screw in Tremolo Arm. Output jack isn't a Canon Jack. Thank God for my personal build.

But, I do hope that EVH buys Kramer, so they can build a $25,000 or $30,000 Kramer 5150 Replica, like they did with The Frankenstein. I'd gladly sell 10 of my guitars to get one...
