Let’s just take a moment to acknowledge the bigness of Mike Anthony stepping up to graciously perform on a tribute tour to VH after how he was treated. Respect!
Facts
Clueless.
Sometimes you just need a check
Mikey !
His backup vocals are soo good too!
To hear Joe say, how difficult it is to play one of Eddie’s riffs, is a tribute to how legendary Eddie was. This is coming from a living legend himself. Awesome
Eddie was no slouch himself
So Awesome to have Joe Step in 😮
I was thinking the same thing
He is just being polite
Yes you can not play Ed thinking you gonna do it Sat's styled ,,, it get less and raped , its the same with Jimi , Jef ,, don't come in and change their that stuff
As a huge fan of both EVH and Joe Satriani, I can’t express how freakin cool it is seeing Satch play vintage EVH stuff. Can’t wait for this tour!
Agree
completely!@@dannyspitzer1267
For me, Joe will be the main draw for tickets on this show.
Joe is great
35-year Satch fan here - it's incredible to watch him play deep Van Halen cuts so well with minimal rehearsal. Can't wait to see and hear more!
Amazing senior rockers!!! Michael Anthony is 69, Sammy Hagar is 76, Joe Satriani is 67 and Jason Bonham is 57. Rock on and best of luck on the 2024 tour!
What amazes me the most is that Jason is almost 20 years younger than Sammy and Sammy almost Looks younger than him
My god Sammy! 76 and kills it!
57 is not a senior...I'm 53 lol
amen to that
How in the blue hell can Sammy sound that good at his age!!?? Impressive
Why isn’t Alex there
@@TOCC50 because he only ever played with Eddie and him and Dave certainly have their oddities. Wolfgang has alluded to that before.
Alex ain’t playing without Ed.
I'm 60 and I can't even listen as good as he sounds.
He took care of himself.
You know how badass Eddie was when one of the other greatest guitarists in the world sounded very different playing Eddie's song.
cant come close and Joe is on my top 5 all time list
Same response from me - Satch is no slouch. Eddie had a unique voice, and an amazing sense of intonation
You know it.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤Eddie Van Halen. Rest in peace brother and thank you for sharing yourself with us through your music. Miss you!!!
Wait until he pulls out his Eddie rig. With all the EVH guitars and amps.
Love how Howard asked Joe to do a intro riff to 5150, and he and the rest of the band can't help but go with it. Legends.
Joe is a great player. But he botched that 5150 intro. That's not a detriment to Joe. That's simply how intricate the notes and harmonics are on that intro. Kudos for trying though.
@@icin4dyou embarrass yourself
@@icin4d
There are no harmonics in the intro to 5150. And the notes are not intricate at all. What is an intricate note? Do you even play guitar?
@icin4d Ed was by far the most dynamic guitar player that has ever lived. He touched those guitars in a way nobody can recreate.
Sammy is in his 70's and he still sounds great!
Listening to Satriani play Van Halen is almost as cool as listening to SRV play Hendrix.
Cooler.
@@andybaldmanNot even close, IMHO
Very different folks, but Satch and Eddie are actually insane guitarist that have inspired modern legends too.@@damachine3
@@damachine3 You must be young.
Agree. SRV played it 10 x better
Satriani played it 10 x worse.
its actually cool to see Joe struggle on the mean street intro. Didn't know he was human.
Joe is less technical of all the shredders, so very human. Revolutionary player nonetheless
He hasn’t gotten it down yet for the tour. It was just a sneak peek.
@@rajeshprasad6016 BS
Jedi are not infallible
@@rajeshprasad6016Actually he's more technically proficient than anyone out there-he was Kirk Hammett's guitar teacher decades ago.
Fair Warning is a mind blowing album. The intro to Mean Street is just another incredible Edward Van Halen creation.
It's THE DEFINITIVE VH ALBUM. It's my favorite.
@@fivestring65ifyYes absolutely. Also don't forget the Solo to ' One Foot Out The Door ' try playing that good luck !
My favorite DLR era album by a mile. Love how dark the album is.
@@fivestring65ifymine too!❤
Dave once said that every time he meets a guitar player, they always say Fair Warning is their favorite VH album. And as a guitar player - it is mine.
Thank you so much Joe. No ego, just loves to rock.
Joe satriani is one the greatest of all time but this really makes you appreciate Eddie’s sound and what he did …unreal!!
Sad But True
Absolutely- Satriani is awesome, but he can’t touch EVH
@@bomimo230Satriani will run circles around Van Halen lol. He taught Steve Vai….
@@Blazerghost please!! Put the crack pipe down..😂
Satriani is every bit as good as EVH, probably better in some respects, technically and as a teacher.
I love Joe Satriani, and Sammy still sounds great.
Amen to that bud.
What’s great is how much you see that Joe is just loving playing Eddie’s stuff! A true master , sees greatness and appreciates it !!
Bravo to Joe Satriani for being such an amazing guitarist and class act. I love him and EVH.
Chills hearing 5150. Imagining Ed smiling and laughing. What he left behind for guitar players is absolutely magical. Beautiful job Joe, Sam, Michael and Jason
Same bro, it really got me!
We all know what a master Satriani is on guitar but for him to be ripping EVH tunes is just monumental. The 4 of them sound so damn good and this tour is going to shred!!
To me Michael's back up vocals have alway been a big part of the total sound of Van Halen
No doubt about it!
He's awesome, but him and Ed together was the sound
Michael is all the harmony.... I had read or heard somewhere at some point Eddie mentioned to Michael that he can take lead vocals, but he said no way.
@@elduderino73 I liked both Dave and Sammy, they both brought a very different vocal to a similar sound.
Absolutely
That intro to 5150 is so perfect.
Not really
Michael Anthony on backing vocals is just as crucial to the VH sound as Eddies guitar ever was
That’s a nice thought but come on get real. 😂
I got chills when Joe and Jason started playing 5150 together:) It just got better when everyone joined in!
Seriously
Same! Chills up the arms
HELLLLLLLL YES
Serious goosebumps
That song always gave me chills, still does it.
Insane how Michaels backup vocals have not skipped a beat!!
And his bass playing is still top notch!
0:20 It’s actually nice to see Joe struggle with something on guitar. Not meant as any disrespect, just makes him a little bit more human. 😅 Amazing player!
5150 is my favorite Van Hagar tune. Killer riffs, soaring vocals. Higher soaring harmonies. Drum fills. Guitar histrionics. Dynamics. Melody, fury, chaos.
5150 is one of the greatest riffs of all time and one of the best Van Halen songs! This gave me the chills! :)
Yeppers dat was awesome
couldn't agree more. and the fact Eddy invented that riff just goes to show what a Riff\Rhythm master is was.
Same
Eddie was an innovator and a master of his craft. Les Paul had him play on a birthday celebration back in the 80’s. Satch is a maestro and also a legend. Appreciate them both for their talent and the experience, it’s not a contest.
True. But Satch is better.
@@guitarslim56They'd both say Holdsworth was the one.
at what?@@guitarslim56
@@guitarslim56Joe wouldn't agree with you.
Eddie was the best guitarist ever, period.
Watching the sheer joy exude from Joe while playing guitar reminds me why I keep trying to get better at it.
The Van Hagar era will always be my favorite of Van Halen. Hearing that Sammy and co. Still have it is great
Blasphemy!
Where's the holy water to cleanse that evil statement!?
😄
Sammy over Roth.....NAH!!!Including the Guitar.....
Flying in a Blue Dream is my favorite Joe Satriani instrumental.
I was just played TIME MACHINE last time at #11.
@@Craig5150EVHown that on cd.. blue dreams my favorite as well
Same
Mine too
It's a toss up between that and Made of Tears for me. Regardless, both are phenomenal tracks!
Zakk Wylde covering for Dime, and Satch covering for Eddie is Incredible...
What's next?
Trujillo AND Hetfield covering for Lemmy?😂 how about...Ed Sheeran covering for Tom Petty😂
Newsted for Lemmy
I'll echo the Michael Anthony sentiments in a little different way. Playing the bass lines in the low registers while simultaneously singing the higher ranges of the vocal harmonies is awesome. For one that's gotta be crazy difficult to do.....and two... that has the most influence on the tone and timbre of the music itself. EVH was the life and spirit of all the tracks...but Michael was the backbone that supported it all. Much respect earned and granted....well done sir.... well done
Satriani is hands down the best rock guitarist out there. He can play anything.
Oh yes! The absolute goat by a mile.
He should be able to, he's a guitar teacher
Joe has all the tools, including humility to know he can't do everything.
Absolutely!
on the spot he still did a damn good job he hasnt sat down and practiced these.
Exactly @@SirPraiseSun
The most underrated skill of Eddie is his rhythm playing. It's just as good or even better than his lead playing and Joe did a good job.
100%
Truth!
Yes, his rhythm and lead playing kind of morph into one.
Good? No rehearsal, Fuckin amazing, great
Always have said that Eddie is my favorite RHYTHM player of all time
This is so cool! I love what Sammy is doing with this tribute band. Joe is a legend, Bonham is fantastic and Michael and Sammy are VH. I have even heard that he has asked Dave to join for a few shows.
Sammy has even asked Alex to join them on tour.
Fair Warning, in my opinion, is Van Halen's best album, it was just so freaking raw! Mean Street and Unchained are all time classics! Evidently this tour is coming to Toronto in July 31st of next year, I intend to be there!
That's the first time I've ever seen Joe look nervous. His hands were shaking while playing 5150. Sounded good anyway!
Early Parkinson’s? Looked suspiciously shaky!
No@@mudcast. What is it with little kiddies thinking they are doctors online? Early vascular dementia for you then?
@@musekic4654 People are nervous all the time when performing, whether in music, stage, athletics, or acting. it doesn't always negatively affect one's performance, especially when you are doing something that you've practiced.
He does not look nervous lol
JS 5150 does sound different. Not that it matters.
Damn they sound great. Sammy can still sing in his 70’s. I’d definitely go check them out in concert.
omg. listening to the intro of 5150 just freaked me out. chills and tears. so awesome ;O)
Woah this sounds incredible! I’ve always wished Joe would play some Van Halen, what a privilege to see and a great tribute to Eddie.
Nice shots of Joe playing. He's excellent.
Joe is an absolute legend and just gets better and better. Such skill and technically brilliant 👏
Jason Bonham’s drumming is sublime. Rock steady, bang on & yet it swings. Always a treat.
To me Michael Anthony is easily one of the most underrated and under appreciated bassists. His talent deserves to be recognized.
Underrated? Under appreciated? What the hell are you talking about
Michael Anthony deserves a giant statue in Rock and Roll History! Amazing musician
🙄🙄🙄🙄
Love Joe. Eddie was one of a kind.
The thing i love about Joe, is he is the biggest fan of guitar playing. He knows Eddie place, and loves his place.
every human is,every animal is.
Can't wait for Satch to play "Spanish Fly" in a flamingo guitar. Then continue and finish it with Eruption.
Seeing the mighty Joe Satriani's hands shake as the camera closes in is a testament to the pressure (on him) and the impact that Eddie had/has on the guitar community. Crazy stuff!
Let's remember that this is not just a tribute band, this was at one time half of Van Halen.
Gives me even more appreciation for Eddie's sound from both eras.
got goosebumps when they started to play 5150 ! I love this song (and this album)
Those Michael background vocals are the Van Halen secret sauce and it still sounds amazing
Well put
Es un regalo poder ver esto, cuánto se te extraña, Eddie. Gracias Satriani por hacerlo posible
5150 is definitely one of my all time favorite VH songs, this version was actually really good.
You should check out the Jacon Deraps cover of 5150 --- it's pretty amazing
He nailed 51-50
It is a great song, the whole album was excellent. But I think my favorite VH album is Balance. They sound so close to the original VH while still maintaining that new feel of the band with Sammy. Just a great set of songs on that record.
Yes it was
.. '5150' is some of Eddies finest rhythm playing.
Haha Joe is my idol. Love seeing him struggle and not nailing something. Makes me feel human. Im not convinced Eddie was human 🦆🗡️❤️
Ab he can do it. He’s just being humble.
He definitely can!
Joe wont be able to play eddie's stuff 100% and Eddie wouldt be able to play joe's stuff 100% either...they're great player which have each significant trademark
There’s some really great audio engineering on the HS show! Always sounds so great, props to that team
Joe is obviously telling a white lie when he says he can't play the intro of Mean Street, this is why he's one the most humble and kind souls in the whole universe and there couldn't be a better person to pay a guitar tribute to Eddie's legacy.
I wish Howards sound crew could travel with these bands. When he has bands in the studio, they always sound top notch.
They should make the bands travel to all of the Howards studios and that would be the tour.
Joe did pretty good, but it just shows you how insane of a rhythm player that Eddie was to be able to hit the chops and keep up on the downbeats...
Eddie and Alex were locked in tight, not that one should expect any less, given that they (obviously) grew up playing together since childhood.
No the trick is to play down on the downbeats, not up. Also, play down on the upbeats. It's all down. Everything is down. Trust me on this.
@@guitarslim56that's the Ramones!
Gotta see this TOUR!!! LOVE Van Halen and all the bands with Sammy, Michael, Joe and Jason! All are so ICONIC and amazing! Miss Eddie & Van Halen so MUCH!!!
The Mean Street intro is an unbelievable stroke of brilliant innovation and sound innovation….EVH had many iconic moments - but the Mean Street intro is an Iconic iconic place in time. Nobody could do what Eddie did and it’s a wide wide berth…damn
JS is a BEASTY player that intro to 5150 sounded HUGE
Not even close to the original version. Mediocre at best.

What a treat.. Joe Satriani is killing, as always. Everyone is in top form.
There was only one Eddie Van Halen!
Beautiful !!!!! Mean street is one of my favorites VH songs. Love Joe .....
I forgot how epic 5150 was. Amazing song
This brought me to almost tears... that intro such a great riff.
Hagars vocals still there. He knows where not to go and Michael comes in and helps with those notes. Great job.
I'm speechless on how good this band sounds, everyone is simply amazing!!!
the intro riff to 5150 brings me back, it just cooks, it rocks, it's beautiful ❤️
i've been a fan for along time and still am today. thank you for all the great music
5150 was always my favorite song on that album. Incredible hearing it played by Joe!
It's really interesting seeing Joe play 5150, sounds absolute killer.
Sammy's sounding great.👍
I have tears in my eyes when I see them play Van Halen stuff. I mean Sammy is 76, Michael Anthony was treated badly (erased from covers) etc. Jason Bonham always ready to go all out. And Joe? I can hardly believe he's in. You have to notice his positive charisma. It certainly infects me. The 2024 tour must be captured on BluRay. I'm looking forward to it. I hope that Wolfgang will also be there. I hope that Wolfgang will also be on show from time to time. Rock n' roll boys!
This sounds amazing. It’s incredible that Sammy’s voice still sounds as good as the record version which was 38 freaking years ago.
I'd love to see Dweezil Zappa do a Van Halen tribute show
Dweezil first album was produced by Edward.
Dweezil or Nuno. But of the three of them, I understand why it wouldn't be Nuno, he's already booked. :)
@@TheNudeBrewer if you haven't heard it, seek out Dweezil's album CONFESSIONS OF A DEPRIVED YOUTH, Nuno plays, sings & co-produced with Dweezil.
Well worth a listen.
That 5150 tune….YES…such a great reminder of what a great tune that was. Joe honored it while still sounding fresh and slightly different. Loved it!
They nailed it! Have to see them on this tour for sure. Wow
Can't wait. Got my tickets for next august!!🤟🎸
Nice hearing Sammy talk good of Eddie. 🤘
That's been my favorite Van Halen song for over 30 years now. Great rendition. They need to put that in the setlist! It sounded awesome for being on-the-spot.
That was nice to hear .... I'm looking forward to the tour
Jason's mini drumroll when Mikey says the name of Mean Street is just the perfect kicker.
Of all the older rockers still with us, Sammy's stood the test of time the best
As good as Sammy is and we love him. PAUL MCCARTNEY is still touring at 82 .
Glenn Hughes as well…..
Willie Nelson will soon turn 205 too.
Only time will tell if we stand the test of time.
Damn mike is still hitting those highs. Sammy still sounds amazing. Joe is killing it. Ok, well, come to san diego Boys, I'll be there!
It's gonna be a really awesome show.
from one legend to another one! Amazing skills!
Mean Street has always been my favorite VH song. Goosebumps.
This will be such a great and awesome tour. I really wish Alex would have done this but having Jason makes this a great tribute.
This is totally giving me chills. Wow, thanks to all of you for paying homage.
Saw them in Cabo 76-bday!!! absolutely awesome!!!

Mean street wasn't even close to accurate . He plays it the way so many others try to play it and it's completely wrong .
He is doing Ed injustice
