I'm 42 years of age. Never skated in my life. I have made it a point like 2-3 times a year every single year since I seen this live on TV to come back here and watch this clip. Bring me to fucking tears. Bob is from another planet we were just blessed he popped by to hang out with us in ours.
I saw an interview with him recently and he said that he always smiles because, when you smile, you release the endorphins, so you trick your brain into associating these moments as pleasure (dopamine), getting rid of stress, so he feels more free to do whatever he wants/he can without pressure. And it works! It paid off.
@@animorte9790 Bob is a skateboarding genius but never seemed that interested in putting together a consistent run. He mostly wants to do out there stuff that is highly difficult for anyone else to even think about trying. Bucky has honed his runs to the point where he is almost automatic. He was the big contest winner after Hawk's retirment until PLG came along. It's kind of the Aaron Rodgers vs. Tom Brady debate of skateboarding.
That why I love extreme sports. Bucket was losing his mind watching that run.He knew that run beat him and he still was pumped. If that were NBA or NFL they'd be hating lol
Dude craziest time to be alive! Skaters were monsters, Moro x was being pushed so hard, BMX was being brought places we didn’t think were possible! Beauty time!
It really was an incredible progression of “extreme” sports. I’m damn happy to have lived through it and continue to do so until my body says otherwise 🤙
Bucky & Bob were/are my 1&2 favorite skaters, especially when everyone loved Tony (and rightfully so,he's a god).but those two were just the coolest to me,from the video games to meeting them in person a shit ton of times.they always were the greatest ever to do it
100th comment... anyway I first watched this clip in the movie ultimate x and I remember watching it when I was 5 and me and my dad watched it till the tape ran out of the VHS tape. No I have it on DVD and every time I watch this movie it just brings back memories of me and my dad. Since my dad passed away my life has been forever changed since he was gone, but ever time I watch this movie I feel like he is right there watching it with me. I'm 16 and my dad passed away when I was 14. Thank you for reading my comment, have a nice day
Hey bud, I hope your doing well 4 years later, I feel the same lost my brother back in 2017 and we used to be obbsessed with xgames I still watch it every year. I’m 29 now and the feeling still sucks
I remember watching this on TV. All these guys make it look so easy but the reactions let you know just how difficult it is. Bob definitely has a gift.
He did a Darkside to Fakie, where he grabbed the wrong side of the board, and he threw his board down back to the grip tape side, and SOMEHOW, he nailed the trick. You can even see that he nearly fell from his board, and adjusted his feet. Then the ending was a Blunt to Kickflip, and not only did he land it, he landed it perfectly.
I still can't believe how in the world did he do that Blunt Kickflip to Fakie? That shit was crazy!! I mean i've seen it so many times even in slow motion and it looked impossible to land it from where he put the board? How in the hell did he rotate the board from that position? Not to mention that the competition was over since he landed that trick when he caught the board by the wrong side and threw it to his feet! Damn Bob! Greatest run ever!
I hope all of you that grew up watching these legends and especially ultimate x get to experience their own spectacular moment just like these guys did ❤
facts. i dont see skateboarding ever reaching these heights again in popularity and coolness. these years were the peak. although of course id be more than happy to be proven wrong.
legendary! ~For all young skaters, BobBurnquist has done some of the best NBD on epic street spots everywhere.. I think this is why He,Danny,Collin,Jake Brown skate lip, & kickflip, blunt tricks is from the street backround..
Went to Middle and High school with Bucky we actually wrestled on the same team.Anyway I knew in 10th grade when I seen Bucky ride a 1/2 pipe that he had skills like I had never seen before..BTW If you read this Bucky it was Down the alley from your house on Dollars point Rd.So you know exactly where I'm talking about. You was with the heavy set friend of yours that crashed every time he dropped in .I for got his name. Anyway I have been happy for 36 years for you when you first got signed by Powell Peralta.Keep grinding Homeboy.BTW I'm watching and waiting for episode 15 of the Brat you and your daughter are doing...
@catroolz It's a switch kickflip indy to fakie except he messed up and caught the board before it flipped completely. It should totally be a bail; except Bob goes for it and somehow throws the board back under his feet. Very sick.
If you're wondering why the title: 2:25 2:35 This man saved two different moves, either of which would have caused the loss. Next to having a perfect run otherwise and tons of air. Bucky Lasek has always been my boy though.
wow... I remember watching that run as a kid. I loved Bucky so much I was pissed at Bob for being such a beast haha. That being said, this clip almost ruined it with the over editing and slow mo. I'd rather just watch it as it was aired, maybe with some commentary or something, but you really can't appreciate either run in this format.
Burnquist has a unique style... like the opposite of flare... he's doing hard tricks but he makes then look hard too by ONLY just hanging on to them. It's much more fun watching him skate than someone who just holds everything down in a really clinical clean way. Sort of feel like he could shuvit off a curb and if he whirled his arms and swung his hips the way he does it'd be exciting and entertaining... difference is he's doing switch inverts on mega ramps, so totally has an excuse to look a little squirly.
I started wondering if every X Games used to be filmed like that ? Until I realize it was a special production. It shocks me that I've never seen this movie, I have to correct this asap.
Bob Burnquist e Bear Grylls... I would like to see an adventure program with both. Here's an idea of who would like to see on television two radicals men. I'm a fan of skate and adventure.
Bucky Lasek is in a Special. Category in the World of Skateboarding. Sessioning with the likes of the Very Few. Hawk, Cab, D.P. Hosoi, Losi, Alva, Salba.
I'd really lik to see details on their working on the curvature between their tricks, thats interesting to me-this is not two runs-two tricks in a row at most...=)--::--(=.....!... X .
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING BOB?!" This kills me every time. What a run. Sporting history right there.
Sport heh

Same here. I was 13 at the time and never skated in my life. This run brings me so much joy. I get a dopamine rush every time I watch it.
Lion ... Right on man ...its deadly
ya'll need to buy boards and skate. I'm 44 and drive a truck and keep a board with me. No tricks though it hurts too much when I fall.
Same here. Watching right now for the 5th time.
Brings me to tears every time. You should go skate man it would make it even more powerful
That smile before he dropped in says it all.
When i saw that smile, he knew he had it and we did too.

720 MCTWIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I miss the X Games of the late 90's/early 2000's. I could never decide which one I liked best between Bob and Bucky, but both were great.
Bob (as shown here) had the higher potential peaks, but my choice Bucky seemed a bit more consistent. I love them both so I feel you.

Simpler times they were man
BoB literaly did a mic drop with his board holding it over his head and dropping it down the transtion- best mic drop evur

skaters may get better... but will never get cooler than this. This was the era.

I remember watching this live on ESPN I was more impressed with the dark side flip landing because it was so late he should've fell on that trick
The two tricks he saved and should have missed is what put him on another level. Never gets old.
Idk how that trick was possible. That and the blunt kick flip to fakie, i STILL can’t figure out how he flipped the board
Had to pause his nine club episode to go relive this
Same!

just Awesome Bob!!! We Brazilians are very proud of what you're showing to the whole world....congratulations Bob... keep it up!!!
bobs relaxation on his final trick was the icing on the cake and shows he was in the flow
3:10 this dude in the red is the most stereotypical 90s hype man I’ve ever seen 😂
ahhh man, i laughed hard at that one. Totally missed it until i saw your comment! xD
young Colin Mckay

This is just incredible.
Saw this in person at 9 years old. I don't skate anymore but what a wild memory
Simplesmente fantástico
The slow motion ruins it you can't see the flow bob has as well
Plus they left out half the tricks. The switch frontside to switch backside ollies are both sick.
I'll always remember the 2001 X Games.
The pose at the end is poster worthy. Keep your MJ posterizing. Bob throws down the greatest run of all time and sticks the landing.
Bucky lasek will always be my favorite
great video, but where are the back to back switch ollies (backside, frontside)? awesome board control.
that boardcatch at 0:53 alone deserves a clean 10 :-)
I get chills
+Fruit Living Me too man big time
Tedd Carr what you like skateboarding ?

Curto street, mas essa volta do BOB Entrou pra história do skate. 👏👏👏
a grand slam when you're down by four still only ties the game
he should've said down by 3 runs lol

Two legends, even to this very day.
still the best vert run in history
Skating or not, X-Games from 90s-00s was a way of life.

Kevin Kelly tony hawk 1999 when he did the 900
Kevin Kelly Bucky had a historic X games comeback in Baltimore last place, last run and he just comes in clutch
Met Bucky back in 2005.
