Great fan as his music is so cheerful,Just what’s needed in these trying times ❤Dancing Spirit Unfolding on You Tube
I grew up listening to Acker as a kid in the UK. It was mostly Acker's playing that inspired me to take up the clarinet in the first place. From memory Acker got real short shrift from the trad jazz police in the UK back in the day. I never did understand that cos I can't think of another trad jazz clarinet player from that era ( Sandy Brown excluded who had shed his Dodds roots by the mid 60 and had moved onto a more modern mainstream style of playing ) who came close to Acker's playing. Early on Acker totally absorbed the George Lewis tradition, moved on and by the time this track was recorded had found his own voice and this track showcases just what a great trad jazz clari player he was and he only got better, he obviously expanded his sphere of influences as he progressed. Great video thx fer sharing..
People like this should live forever... Such a great musician...I was around 12 years old when I firsy heard Acker in the early 1960's USA...
used to listen to him on record in the 60s and the last time in Frome a couple of years before he died when he did a concert
He and his band were brilliant! My dad was a big fan of the old jazz bands so when I was growing up in the 1970s I got to hear of great music like this!
Proven once again I lived in the greatest generation of music.
THAT SOLO IS PHENOMINAL - THE KING of Clarinetists - I still listen to this every morning on the way to work to wake me up - RIP Acker you will be missed - truly heartbroken we lost you old mate........ :.....(
Definition of a jazz band...5,6 or more musicians all playing a different tune. To make it all gel takes a lot of skill. Fantastic!
Acker and Colin Smith, great .
Acker, Thank you for all your great music. Always brings a smile to my face.. Rest in Peace, hope you brought that great Clarinet with you!
the man was pure class when he played,no one will ever play the clarinet like he did
Acker had no formal training, and look what musician he turned out to be. He really brought joy to those that enjoyed the clarinet.
Working class zummerset bloke who worked in a cigarette factory who made it up London way and then worldwide. Unique player.
Kako i sekogas : toj e edinstven i nepovtorliv umetnik na svojot instrument . Blagodaram Acker.

I Like British Trad Jazz ! 🇬🇧
My grandad played with Acker a lot back in the day - I wish there was some footage of that, I'm sure he'd love to see it! Such a great musician.
R.I.P. Acker.
Woody Allen made me love this music...and many more
I have listened to jazz for nye on 65yrs,mainstream,trad,modern etc, and I believe Acker to be the finest traditionlist or ballad player of them all.Once he really got into a gig with the odd glass perched on the piano he was truly in a class of his own.Oh and by the way, also a lovely man
Yes, it is also my opinion
Total klasse Nummer von Acker Bilk. Echt stark.

:D Mój ulubiony kawałek :D
Mój też! ... kiedyś zaczynał się nim program podróżniczy Klub Sześciu Kontynentów - to było okienko na świat, przez które mogliśmy zerknąć jak jest poza Polską. Świetna muzyka i świetny program!
Acker was fabulous - I had the honour of playing with him in the late 70's and until about two years ago I used to see him occasionally in my local Tesco.....
He died in 2014!!
@@cheyne15 Yeah, but maybe he still shops...
@@thomas7johns Very droll,love it.

crocodille texmann It's absolute truth.George B.
Zajob??? Nie????????
Dead right with the personnel!
tolle Musiker
It always resembles me 'Klub 6 kontynetów'.
Most UK musicians of that era could only hear jazz on import records... it was exciting to try to copy and out do... at the same time the Blues and Rock and Roll got swished into the mix... plus ça change innit?
There was no better trad clarinettist in the UK, no, in Europe.
Hi, Acker (clarinet), Jonathan Mortimer (trombone), Colin Smith (trumpet), Tony Pitt (banjo), Stanley Greig (piano), Tucker Finlayson (bass), Ronald McKey (drums) - in this video from Prague. Bye George.
George Becherovsky it’s Ron McKay ☺️
@@leahmckay3901 = I should imagine he was your dad or grandad - he was a great drummer as this shows. RIP to him and Acker,
Andy Pandy he was my lovely and greatly missed Dad x
@@leahmckay3901 I wanted to let you know Leah, that dad thought a lot of your dad...whenever he mentioned him it was with fondness...It was well known that Ron wasn't keen on flying, and dad told me a story of a time when they were flying to some distant place and encountered severe turbulence. Unfortunately your dad had just entered the toilet at that very moment..suffice to say he was not happy, but of course the rest of the band thought it was hilarious!...There are some old photos of your dad and the band on mine and my brothers website if you're interested....www.ackerbilk.org hope you enjoy them x
Jenny Bilk Thankyou so much for your reply and for the link to your web page!! I’ve never seen any of the pics of Dad and they took my breath away all over again...I miss him so much as you must miss Acker...I know they had a great friendship (as well as the fisticuffs😂) and I listen to their music often....Leah x
I do miss here the original trumpet player thou'....
