You are so right. I knew Liberace for many years & had a fan club for him for 16 years. I have some great memories of his kindness and thoughtfulness. He was a dear, sweet man who is really missed by all of us.
i love the fluidity in his arpeggios and fast runs. people say he's a joke, but he's the most stylistic and the most humble and charismatic. God Bless Him.
Liberace is and always will be a totally big favourite of mine...I loved how he played the piano......gentle,graciously and loud and proud!!!! God Bless You Lee!! Thanks for the memories!!!!
Actually Liberace did perform for the 1982 Academy Awards, playing the 5 nominated songs that year. He was and always will be the greatest entertainer of all time.
What a fantastic pianist he was, there's no one as good as him anymore. He was simply the best pianist of the last century. I don't care what anyone has to say about his sexuality. What a showman.
Simply amazing, so glad I found Liberace on UA-cam. We just don't have talent like this anymore. The man could play the crate the piano came in. Everything from boogie woogie, rock and roll, pop or classical, Broadway show tunes didn't matter. A TRUE master!
Irony...I am a retired US Army Combat Sergeant, I served OIF5 and OIF6 in Ramadi, Iraq and a lifelong Christian. So my opinion of his lifestyle is well, we all know what it is. God blesses who He will with His talent. I love this man!! I believe that, for whatever reason, God poured out a double portion of love in this mans heart. If I see this man in Heaven, I will hug the crap out of him. I mean...I will shake his hand. Makes me tear up when I see the power of God come through his hands.
@yashti1979 - Hello, To answer your questions, off camera, Liberace was just about the nicest person you would ever want to meet. I knew him for many years and attended some of his after-show parties. He was also very generous and loved people. I could go on & on about him. It's just wonderful to see that he is reaching a whole new audience on UA-cam. I know he would be pleased if he were here today.
Yes, Liberace was one of the greatest entertainers of all time. I saw many of his 'live' shows and will never forget him or his wonderful music and personality. He loved his audiences and gave them a show they never forgot....
+Ivy Edan I have said it many times. This man is a genius. He never uses a script. He looks at the people, he smiles, he brings joy into peoples lives.
@@bethmiletti9540 He was the best pianist ever, & a great showman who knew how to get the audience entertained, Chopin wasn't close to being as good a pianist, In Liberace America had the best pianist showman entertainer ever. End of. Love from Britain. We loved him & still do! X
For all who wasn't around when he was alive, you missed a very talented and warmhearted person who was genuine in his respect and appreciation for his audiences.
What made him truly Great was not just his talent, but his Love of the common people like you and i, who may never have hear classial music. We was what made him Great and He Loved us for it. We Loved him for Him, not what everyone said we should Love him for, We Loved him because he taught us to Love
To Scouzeboy....well said, my friend. I was fortunate to attend many of his 'live' performances and still marvel at his amazing skills at the piano. We will never see the likes of another Liberace. He was so unique and talented at that keyboard and made it look easy, too. He was one of the best ....thanks to UA-cam his memory lives on....
Liberace represents the best of the USA, with its human quality and a talent never seen before, it seems that more than classical musicians, Mozart, Chopin, Beethoven, Litz
The BEST!!! We miss you dearly, Mr Liberace for your incredible talent, your adorable sense of humour and sure for your ever so fabulous outfits. As soon as i can, i shall go to his museum and worship him even more for all the great and beautiful performances he did. Love you forever!
Mr Showmanship. Simply the greatest showman ever. Truely a man of great talent who shated his enjoyment of the piano with the world. There will never be another like him. May he rest in peace.
In my CD collection I have an original recording of Rachmaninov playing the piano. I was struck whilst listening to this video of the similarity between the two players in that the runs both up and down the keyboard (always defeats me!) were executed with unfailing precision each and every time. Behind the mirrors and furs lay a superbly naturally gifted musician with an ear for arranging and then playing the most beautiful music. A true craftsman.
@balto4 - Liberace was as nice to be around as he seems to be in these videos. When he died, his sister-in-law gave me a pair of his shoes. I still have them. Inside, they say, "made especially for Liberace". It's amazing that so many people (like yourself) are discovering him for the 1st time on UA-cam. I've been a fan for lot of years and it's a joy to see him being discovered all over again by a new audience. Thank you for your kind words, balto4.
Liberace's brilliance lies in part in his ability to integrate seemingly disparate musical ideas into a seamless whole - in his hands, the medley becomes'concerto" in a style reminiscent of Liszt. Lee, (with, of course, a nod and a wink!) is just having "fun", but all the glitter and fantasy mask someone who was, in my opinion, a great musician - just wish he could bring back his "magic" to Vegas!
TODAY, MAY 16TH, WOULD HAVE BEEN LIBERACE'S 92ND BIRTHDAY!...(1919-2011)....HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE GREATEST ENTERTAINER OF ALL TIME....WISH YOU WERE STILL HERE BUT THANKS TO UA-cam, YOU ARE STILL HERE TO BRING PLEASURE TO A WHOLE NEW GENERATION OF FANS.....
@skudzer1985 .. Truly any of the great composers, if alive today, could present their compositions on the world stages. There is no doubt about that. It is wonderful that you see Liberace as the man he was who appreciated the great composers and expanded on their pieces while still having a sincere appreciation for the audiences. I am personally thankful that I saw his live performances and to witness his sincerity. I hope your appreciation for LIberace grows.
MrLonesomeJohn you have put it in a 'nutshell'. A beautiful and kind man who made the world a better place. Thank goodness we have the film clips, and recordings etc. the ensures we never really loose him. He was a remarkable talent and entertainer who will be always remembered and loved by those who really were lucky enough to appreciate him. Sparkle on Lee.+
Absolute Genius and Brilliance. "Send in the Clowns" is tragic and bittersweet and heartbreaking, yet such a gorgeous piece. Liberace was always worried about his audience finding out about his sexuality, when in reality they all knew and could have cared less. They wanted and demanded the furs, and the mirrored limos and the costume changes and corlky jokes. And he always left them screaming for more. The Ultimate Showman.
He was such a great entertainer, always having a nice smile for the publicAnd you could always see at his face that this was something he loved to do.Together with his piano and the public;that was when he was happy. That is why he gave everything!
A most inspiring technical master of the piano. A showman above all showmen, and a wonderful caring decent person as well. Thank you for posting the video. Paul.
Oh and these are famous quotes from Liberace, "I cried all the way to the bank!" Responding to the famous quote, "Remember that bank i cried all the way to? I bought it."
I knew of him before for his exuberance, but ... I never knew before of his TALENT! And you can tell he truly just loves to play piano & perform. We won't see his like, again.... :-(
he could have played any style he liked. im so glad he didnt go down the whole root of just playing in fancy concert halls and actually treated piano as more than a show, he thought about modern music and about entertaining people and not just playing them a piece of music. this is the genius of Liberace
People, including my piano teacher, scoffed at Liberace, but his rendition of Sondheim's Send in the Clowns had the hairs on the back of my neck standing up. More feeling in it than many singers I've accompanied ever managed. Showman, yes, but a top artist too
He was one hell of an expierienced pianist. I remember watching him on TV when I was a kid and he was watched by the whole of my family every time he was on TV in the UK.
i love liberace, incredible pianist and the great thing is he had such great taste and a love of being larger than life. its exactly why he was a show pianist and exactly why i prefer watching liberace than any of the boring concert pianists who only play mozart, tcaikovsky and so on. liberace breathed life into piano and that is a huge inspiration for aspiring pianists and musicians like myself
I am a highly accomplished concert pianist and I always looked down on this great entertainers piano playing. But on giving this selection a listen, I realized that there is even a marvelous musician within admitedly the confines of showmanship, glitter, glamour and nostalgic sentiment. He was a great businessman but also evidently a beautiful person and that beauty shows not only in his personality but in his music making as well.
Liberace's version of As Time Goes By brought me to tears the first time I heard it. Its my favorite song of all time. I watched his television show when I was in grade school. At that time, I didnt know what gay was. I just thought he was silly sometimes. But, he will always be remembered for his great musicianship and showmanship. You cant take that away from him.
Hey, same here !! when I was 7 y.o. and watching Liberace on TV, I knew right then and there I wanted to take piano lessons, and I did for the next 10 years! I never got as good as the great Liberace, but, I was close!
So glad to hear this! I visited the museum a couple times back in the late 1990s and early 2000s and once after the remodel. Glad to hear it will be opening back up in a more central location.

I was riveted and mesmerized by this performance. I toy around with keyboards and can only envy Liberace's absolutely amazing talent for playing piano.
