Oh my! This was indescribably delicious! This was far more interesting than a standard orchestra or piano version and so much more satisfying. Khudyev and orchestra was 100% synergistic. These tempos are much more exciting and energetic than usually performed. This actually sounded Persian instead of English light fare. I love the smiling faces and appreciative reception.
A piece called "In a Persian Market", written by an English composer, and performed by the Taipei Chinese Orchestra on what looks like a combination of European and Chinese instruments. A wonderful performance, and a glorious antidote to the stupid nationalism rampant today.
A beautiful old melody so sensitively reproduced by this very talented young conductor and all the musicians and with traditional instruments; perfect fusion. Music knows no barriers or frontiers
Besides great and amazing harmony and redition, this can be considered as a human combination in solidity and peace as a Asian orchestra played a musics about Persian composed by a Western man conducted by a central Asian man. Those four elements made it really become a world music. Asian style made me so melt and proud (+heart)
"Central Asian conducting an Asian orchestra, with music by a British composer about Persia." makes more sense. The composer, Albert Ketèlbey, was born in Britain. The conductor, Farkhad Khudyev, was born in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan or Central Asia. The Taipei Chinese orchestra is Asian. Not sure what you mean "Asian orchestra conducted as a Western man playing a music about Persian."
I've been listening to different versions of this captivating piece for two days now. I just found this, this morning. Everything is here - recording quality, dynamic arrangement, and a conductor that's a joy to watch. His appreciation for his musicians almost brought me to tears.
I remember all of Ketelby pieces I uses hear in a old radio near 50 ..but the sound was flat ...This version enhances the oriental spirit using instruments of China, under a direccion addressed to rescue the original sounds
I heard this in 1956 when I was 16 at a school concert in then Malaya. Then played it on violin. Sounded like a CHINESE MARKET as BHL (see below) said. Ketelbey at his best!
I have been enough lucky to listen this beautiful piece of music "par magie" / randomly as we said in french ! this is absolutely fantastic, great job Farkhad !
ecco il modo migliore per stregiare un pezzo di musica classica. questa è una marcia militare non una rappresentazione sensuale di un mondo per noi misterioso.
The musicians have mastered Chinese instruments and the Chinese musical idiom, but they can also read a Western score and interpret it for their instruments. That’s damned good musicianship!
Following Gorge Poveda, the Taipei Orchestra is to be praised for keeping Ketelbey’s original sounds. In other words, the ensemble didn’t make the piece Chinese (Sinicized, for a better term) regardless of a lot of Oriental instruments. Now please look at the fiddles. Generally speaking, in classical orchestral performances, strings take a pivotal role. And in the said section, violins share a portion of sonority at least equal to that of viola, cello and bass. Under Khudyev’ s baton, the tradional Chinese fiddles (surrogate violins) stayed inaudible, except during a very short moment at 6:16 - 6:40 when playing alone. ALL things considered, this is a rendition of quality, and visually attracting, a nice combination of instruments from different origins.
Que Puerto decir o tra gran ombra de el gran copositor ver la version primitiva el los ancor vinte dos a ponerosla ah ora or gustare mucho todos sua versione gracias amigos gracias
A beautiful performance and wonderful to hear original Chinese instruments in the ensemble. Well done! What are those instruments with what look like organ pipes?
Underneath our skin.... the same red blood flows. Regardless of our religion, race, Culture, creed etc.. we are all essentially the same. Only egoists and narcissistics think otherwise.
its called the chinese sheng, the instrument is a free reed instrument with a total of 36 pipes which can be played independantly or in chords. You also see a whole range of sheng in this orchestra from the soprano sheng, alto sheng, tenor sheng and bass sheng you can tell by the size of the pipes.
That Persian caravan could be booked for speeding it was played ever so fast and the market juggler was pissing himself to get home for lunch, the only thing right was the princess travelling through the market.

Sonido de Fantasía. Diferente. Excelente. !!!!!!!
Excellent! It reminds me of the late Alistair Edmond Thomson (RIP), he gave me the original piece by Albert Ketelby
I heard this in 1956 when I was 16 at a school concert in then Malaya. Then played it on violin. Sounded like a CHINESE MARKET as BHL (see below) said. Ketelbey at his best!
As i have a CD with Albert W Ketelby conducting all these unusual tunes. To hear this Chinese Orchestra rendition is utterly fantastic.

OMG! This is so incredible! Very interesting sound, indeed. The violin section is totally replaced by er hu.
not just erhu, it is the entire hu instrument family, which include gaohu(high), erhu, zhonghu(middle)
It's drop-dead-beautiful when the violins come in after the harp. Really nice.

Muy sentimental y bonito.

Una gran música descriptiva

It would be interesting to hear it played on traditional Middle Eastern instruments.

Much too fast, where are they rushing to! it makes one edgy.
An excellent performance. Has a more oriental feel than symphony orchestra version
Belíssima apresentação. Bálsamo para a alma

Sounds like in a Chinese market.

A beautiful performance and wonderful to hear original Chinese instruments in the ensemble. Well done! What are those instruments with what look like organ pipes?
That's the ''sheng''. It's a type of reed pipe.
It’s a sort of super mouth organ.
@@simone222 Ahh, thank you i was wondering if it was a type of sheng, I have played a smaller hand-held one many years ago.
I play this on flute and it's not easy for me
something different something great
