That's a much happier story than the real Samuel Morse story of the telegraph. He was an artist and was on a commission in New York when he received a letter saying his wife was dying, but by the time he got home she had already died. It was at THAT time that he started thinking of a way to transmit messages much faster than what they had at the time.

I can still recite the Preamble to the Constitution because of Schoolhouse Rock. If I am ever on a trivia show I guess it will be of some use! I bought the cd set for my kids when they were little. But they found it pretty primitive! I ended up watching them by myself! Still love them.

Everybody in my class was doing that by the time it got to about three months, but I waited till like there was only 3 weeks of school was left, so that was fun XD.

Some of the information on this video is inaccurate. For example, Henry Ford did not INVENT the automobile. There are many people responsible for inventing various forms of combustion engines over the years as far back as 1769! However, Karl Benz is generally considered the inventor of the first combustion engine suitable for a horseless carriage. Henry Ford IS however responsible for starting mass production and sales of combustion engine cars around the beginning of the 20th century.

Whitney: The cotton gin was astounding at the time, but NOT necessarily a good thing, as with increased efficiency, it drastically increased both slave labor and the import thereof.
      www.reference.com/history/did-cotton-gin-affect-slavery-a91af83069280409#
Edison: The light bulb wasn't just one single invention, is was actually a progressive evolution of incandescent lighting, over almost a century's worth of different researchers and scientists. Also, Edison did cocaine and he was an awful person, so he's not the best role model.
      www.livescience.com/43424-who-invented-the-light-bulb.html
Howe: Just like the light bulb, the sewing machine was an ever-developing series of inventions, and even after Howe's was patented and began being sold commercially, many inventors came after him and made improvements on it. Howe was just the first to modify a machine that would be easy to sell, before he died.
      www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/the-many-many-designs-of-the-sewing-machine-2142740/?no-ist
Ford: The automobile is a much older invention than some may think, and Ford certainly didn't invent it. He only developed, like Howe, a model that was easy to sell.
      www.loc.gov/rr/scitech/mysteries/auto.html
In the end, I suppose you could say that some of these people were real inventors, like the Wright Brothers and Marconi, but most were just good salesmen and took their ideas from previous inventors. And, they were lucky enough to sell their product before they died.

    • @limegrass6194

@kevin willems what you mean? This song was basically pointing out how capitalism leads to progress. There was a demand, and the inventors supplied.

    • @limegrass6194
      @limegrass6194 4 роки тому

@kevin willems I dont know why you dont just put your separate points into different paragraphs so I'm just gonna respond in 1 reply.
I know the setting of the inventors in the song is a bit off, like how Morse invented telecommunication because of his dead wife, or how the cotton gun was invented for black slaves to use and not the white man as shown in the video, but this video is for kids and when they grow up they will see the bigger and detailed picture.
Also, capitalism isnt about stealing innovation, I dont see how that is, other than someone like Edison. Making innovations is where you get the big money since people want better versions of everything, so companies are in an arms race of making the better version of what their competitors are making. Ford wants to make better cars than Toyota and vice versa. Sony wants to make better consoles than microsoft and vice versa. Hasbro wants to make better toys and Mattel and vice versa. The companies make better products to sway consumers, and in return the consumers obtain better products, probably at a cheaper price too. I see this as an absolute win.
Of course there is cases where people abuse capitalism, like slave owners or oil companies, but pretty much every else is not awful like they are. Not everybody, and I'll tell you this, not everyone is awful.

@kevin willems again, please keep things in a single reply to keep it tidy. If you posted the reply and want to add something, there is an option to edit the comment.
Anyways, I don't see how paying your workers is exploitation. Like, if you think the pay is too low, then you can either work harder for more money, or get a mew job. Like, I guess not everyone could own a yacht or a private jet, but most people are fine with having a humble home and the possessions they can afford. As long as workers are getting paid, it's a symbiosis.
Some people in our society need to be the eyes, some need to be the hands, some need to be the mouth, some need to be the heart, some need to be the lungs, and so on. An eye ball cannot eat without a mouth, and a mouth cannot see without and eye. We all have our roles, and as we make progress, the bottom class will be able to experience things that the higher classes get.
Keep in mind that whenever you go to McDonald's or a chinese restaurant or where ever you go out to eat, just remember that you are experiencing the luxuries of a medival king, if not more.

@kevin willems Tne ones on the top of the social ladder are regular people, they just climbed higher, that's why it's called a social ladder. Being born rich or poor means you stay rich and poor, that actually the main point of the USA, that you dont have to settle on being at the bottom. If you want to be like one of them rich guys, you must work hard to climb to the top. If your at the top, be aware that you may be outcompeted and your company will fall apart if you do not prepare for the workload ahead.
Like, people like Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gate were just like you and me, but they had ideas and made those ideas a reality, now we, the people, have Microsoft and FaceBook (though I dont use facebook myself, it still is important). On the other side, look at Lego, which was family run, but the grandson of the founder couldnt handle the company, which made Lego lose a lot of profit, so much that the company almost had to sell it all, but then, someone outside the family came and fix it and rebuilt Lego and now its considered the best toy of all time because someone was smart and wise, dispite not being in the family.
I tell you these stories to show where you were born does affect who you will be. It may seem impossible, but one thousand steps starts with one. Remember, owners of companies, no matter how corrupt or generous, needs an org chart, and they want to best they can get in their org chart to bring in more profits, so what you ned to do is be the best so that your boss's boss will want you working for them, and let this continue until you are reasonably satisfied. Remember, everyone wants more money, no matter for what, or for whom.
Like I said, not everyone will have a yacht and private airplane, and that's ok. We will never reach economic equilibrium, and that's ok. Workers dont get their pay equal to the value of their product because the company need to make a profit, and when they make a profit they will expand, and when they expand they hire more workers, more works means more profit, and more profit means moreexpansion, means more workers, and it continues this symbiotic relationship. Expansion is ok. If workers dont like their pay, it's ok, just climb up the ladder or get a new job. It's all about choice the workers make that makes them successful. Sometimes you may not win, but at least you joined the race. Choice is what America is all about. What do you choose?

@kevin willems ok, you need to stop making multiple comments, it's really annoying, just saying.
So anyways, you want an example of the American dream?I am an example of going from poor to middle class, at least my parents are, and I was there for about half of it. I saw the evolution of our home, and the things we put in it.
When my dad moved here from latin America, he literally lived in a shed at someone's house as it's all he can afford, but he worked hard and bought a house after being married. The house was in disrepair, the walls were poor cared for and all that. Instead of paying a mega ton of money on a carpenter, he fix the house himself, and maybe some relative came to help, I dont know all the details, but still he fixed a poor house. Years later he slowly but surely gained more and more, like more TVs gaming consoles, ATVs, a trailer, and more, all these slowly over time, ut not much else. Then, as I aged, I noticed we were getting more and more, and ever since my brother started working, our house income increased a lot, so much so we could afford to build a new room in the back, which was just a renovated laundry room that we turned I to a 2nd living room. In this 2nd living room we put a big fancy TV. Fir a shack to a middle class home in california, that is my dad's story. Let's also factor in my mom loves wasting money yet my dad was still clever enough to limit the loss.
You want me to look around me to see whether or not the American dream is real? Well, my dad is an example. He doesnt have a fancy job neither, he is a landscaper and a construction worker, people you believe are being exploited. He is also very smart with money, like be buys and rent out homes in other countries for passive income.
You picked the wrong person to try to disprove the American Dream, because like I said, my dad lived it, and many other parents too, and many more stories have and will be made.

Alexander Graham Bell did NOT invent the telephone; it was invented by an Italian guy and Bell stole the patent.
