I guess nowadays people will question it, but you have to remember the time it was made. Afrocentrism, or "black pride", was thriving in the early 70's, and educators were trying to do more to promote the acceptance and understanding of the black-American culture to the white world. Music is the universal communicator and was used to heal wounds after the riots. It's educational value speaks for itself, obviously.
captainblewhard exactly. that is why we still had to teach our children about community organizations like of course black k panthers and Latino panthers in new York city and chicago expo'. my mother is from North Carolina recently they voted against black studies in schools be cause they way white establishment disrespects our history and we got very tired of them cheating us. thanks for showing the genre of our culture appropriation.

@@aurorastenulson2562 Yeah, Bob Dorough should not be credited as the artist, grady tate sang this episode of school house rock. However, Bob Dorough wrote the song.
videogameboutique may he rest in peace too, the real smooth creator of SHR and a real jazz musician himself, I love they don't have coffee in Brazil. hee hee he's very funny. three is a magic number is his only rememberance at 97 he still does his homework but the song hits number four on the billboard jazz single charts.
I wonder if the creators of all these films realize that they'd help millions of kids with their math, grammar, and civics lessons. I know they all helped me. Also amazed I know the words to almost all of these.
My 'SIX' siblings & I grew up LOVING Schoolhouse Rock. We SO looked forward to them on Sat. mornings. My youngest son loves them today! SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK ~ TIMELESS.🙏♥️🇺🇸✌
Absolutely my favorite Schoolhouse Rock song and the "Throwin' down jacks" transition is one of my all-time faves in any song. I remember just randomly catching SHR during '70s Saturday morning cartoons on ABC and, man, if you were watching another channel, flipped over and saw that you'd missed SHR on ABC, it was a bitter pill and you had no idea when your favorite SHR would pop up again. Back in the day, when you missed TV shows, movies, whatever, that was it. You might catch a rerun in summertime but when they were gone, you had to wait it out and hope you were luckier next time. Good times.
These are new ridiculously extremely high numbers I know about simply because I know third, fourth, fifth and sometimes even sixth powers of some numbers that nobody knows about except Mars mathematicians!!!
-i was definitely watching these when they came out and life was very good---this was always a fave of mine. I was a little girl in L.A. and listened to the AM Soul stations.
Omg,what part of L.A.? I know this is 3 months later reply, but nostalgia brought me here lol :) I was also a lil girl growing up in South Central part of L.A.,otherwise known as da ghetto lol :) i say that lovingly of course... :) but yeah,i also listened to the soul music AM stations haha :) Omg,schoolhouse rock was one of the few fond memories of my childhood,i can still hold on to,hank God for UA-cam! lol :) Omg,i am feeling so nostalgic, watching these,wow... :)
I tutor children in mathematics. When we get to multiplication, I show them a DVD with these multiplication songs after explaining the process. Parents are always surprised I knew of this show from my childhood.
I was there at that time period in the 1970's as a little kid though. Sometimes we watched it on the school classroom, we enjoyed it and learn it at the same time. Now that I am 53 years old I still love to watch it only as my school time period back then. They sure don't make those cartoons back then to entertain little kids of today era? ☮️✌️🕊️☮️🥴🤭❤️😯
I love Schoolhouse Rock all of the best songs of all time from 1973 to 2009 on ABC it was one of the longest running Saturday morning shows back in the day!!!!!! The singers became iconic stars of all time!!!! R.I.P. Bob Dorough, Grady Tate and Blossom Dearie!!!!! Thanks for posting this video!!!!! I love it!!!!! I love the 70s!!!!! Can you dig it!!!!
1:15 Going to the candy store. I'll take six of these and six of those, and six of them, and six of the other, and also six of the red, six of the white, and six of the blue. I'm putting it in one bag,That's 42.
You guys have absolutely no idea how helpful this has been this alone and I promise you THIS ALONE out of everything else helped me to master my multiplication
we watched this in 3rd grade at Rich Pond Elementary. I remember me and my class would watch it just to sing along, unaware we were learning our times tables lol
One of the grooviest School House Rock vids. Love it! "Each one loaded down with 6 casks of oil and spice. Brought quite a price. 6x11 is 66. 11x6. [fingering the cash] He had 12 wives! He better be rich. Each one had 6 kids. Six children each. 6x12 is 72. 12x6. Ha! totally cool!
I love love love the "stumble-stagger" on the 1st bar of this song, then the RECOVER! (It "sounds" like a "glitch", but I think it was accidentally intentional. Y'know, to F w our minds here in the future!) B cause, I distinctly remember it from when I was a kid on Saturday mornings back in the 70's! Also, I just GOTTA cover this song sometime soon! (I already did '3 Is a Magic Number')
Notice the colors on the six balloons that the boy taking the subway is carrying-red,orange,yellow,green,blue,and purple-each balloon's color,is a color,of,the rainbow,or spectrum. I wonder if the popping sound we seem to hear at the very end, is supposed to be the balloons popping,as the boy boards the subway(in which case, the subway door would close on the balloons, thus popping them?)
At first I wondered why balloons this kid blew up with his mouth floated like helium balloons, but it's probably because 6 is 2 times 3, and 3 is a magic number.
I guess nowadays people will question it, but you have to remember the time it was made. Wish we had more Afrocentrism in the world in 2020.
Same with the Verb song.
Also what we called being socially correct and accepting. Even from the Our Gang classics promoting racial harmony.
Before 1980, there was a widespread perception, encouraged by the media, that everyone was getting to a better place, together........
I like how the urgency of the rhythm and layers of instrumentation increase with the multiples of 6.
Me too
You Have Good Ears 💪
Also the rhythm guitar and keyboards get way more intense
I had to read this a few times before i understood it but you're right

This cartoon was made in 1973, so taking into account inflation, $9 then was equal to $48 today.
aramanth he had 72 kids - that money has to last
Well, if I become president, $9 will end up being $191,102,976 and $81 would be the cube of $191,102,976!!! 191,102,976 is the sixth power of 24!!
aramanth he's got to be cheap look at all the damn kids he has
Ikr
"He had 12 wives, he better be rich" lolol
Lucky he didn't have 144, 1,728, 20,736, 248,832 or 2,985,984 wives, LMAO!! I just did six powers of twelve!!
they had lot of babys XD
I didn't think anyone heard that lol
When I was a kid, I'd wonder, "Why does he have to be rich"? At the same time, my dad would be cracking up walking by, with a cup of coffee. I thought he was laughing at me. It took a while to realize what he was laughing at.
Hahahaha
2:05. "He don't wash no dishes" And his face when the guy falls. My favorite part of the song! And the hair! :D
"Not with SIXTY diamonds," that's for sure; Grady Tate wasn't lying when he said that.
How about with 777,600,000 diamonds? That is 60 to the fifth power!!!
:D
And the lesson of the song: "It makes a big difference how you spread it around."
No, the lesson is: "He had 12 wives! He better be rich!"
Lead vocal by the great renown jazz/studio session drummer/percussionist GRADY TATE!
May he rest in peace!

Not with sixty diamonds!
Cool!
Would you wash dishes with 12,960,000 diamonds? That's 60 to the fourth!!

Yes, "6" is my favorite SHR song, with "0" a close second. (I still have to zip through "12" occasionally in my head)

They had 9 dollars each (Yeah!)
not for nine.
Dang, that prince dude got busy at least 72 times?!?!?
they couldve had twins, triplets or quadruplets, but even so thats a lot.

2:53 The sound of the Subways tire screech in this use to scare me. But now not so much anymore.
The grooviest of all of the School House Rock songs! Nothing can beat it, though Verb comes pretty close. However, this one will forever be my fave!

This perfectly illustrates what is wrong with the world today. There isn't nearly enough funk! Gotta have that funk and get down with your fine self.

Schoolhouse Rock looks like a spin-off of Sesame Street. Maybe the same animators provided sketches for both t.v. shows.
awesome guitar, bass, and vocals

This song is very jazzy even though Grady Tate died from Alzheimer’s Disease complications 2 years ago. 😿
fushickens and shaq rapped over it, the song is called "wuts up doc" or "can we rock".
This one's got a different art style than the others. I didn't think it was SHR at first.
