Swing SLOWER And Hit The Ball FARTHER - This Really Works
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 вер 2024
- How can you swing slower and hit the ball farther? Sounds crazy but this really works and it can work for you too.
This is all about how the swing 'feels' and a slower feeling swing can in many cases produce much longer shots with all the clubs.
In this video is use the blast golf sensor to show you just how you can swing slower and hit the ball farther, the method also allows for more consistency and control

Excellente vidéo je vais m’entraîner avec ces exercices pour ralentir mon swing merci!
You're awesome Chris! Your explanations and drills are so understandable.
Thanks
Great video Chris. I was once told that using the word Ernie in your head on the backswing and Els on the downswing works. I wonder if Big Easy uses that drill!!
Can't wait to implement this tomorrow. I'm hitting the ball well at the moment, but I can feel my swing is starting to get quick and a few bad'uns are creeping in to my game!
Wow, what a difference! Didn't mis-hit an iron all round and actually missed four greens long as I was striking the ball so well. What a drill, what a difference!! Thanks Chris!!
This works really well combined with the 'Rip your 3 wood from the fairway' drill. 👍
I really like the idea of the 1&2 simple but very affective when trying to keep the right swing tempo, thank you
Well done Chris, not sure John Rham would agree with you but another great lesson thank you.
Great video. Swing tempo 3:1 is for the full swing. For short game shots it’s 2:1. Would love to see you do a video on bunker shots . I’m off 1 but when it comes to bunker shots I’m terrible most of the time I take more than 3 shots to get the ball in the hole.
The ball behind the ball to slow the swing down has been brilliant for me.
It puts me in control and I can make a really slow and effective transition and I get much cleaner shots.
My fear is people are going to tell me the swing and the transition are too slow and I need to get on with it and hurry up.
Excellent drill, noticed immediate improvement after trying this on the range
Love this, glad it helped
Brilliant video Chris, tks.
This small tip was just what my swing needed. Made a huge difference in consistency and massively simplified my swing thoughts.
One of the best coaching videos I’ve seen.. superb Chris
Thanks Paul
Brilliant lesson.
Great video Chris, came just at the right time . Been speed training and it’s totally screwed my tempo . Thanks 🙏🏼
AWESOMENESS!! Love the tongue-in-cheek comedy as well!!
Thanks Brian hope it helps 😁
That side by side comparison was very useful, I could see my bad swings on the left & compare that to what I need to shoot for. Thanks.
Is this something you've been working on Chris? You swing is looking great right now. This is something that has come at just the right time for me.
Great video and drills Chris. This is an area of my game I struggle with, so can't wait to try these drills and hopefully see an improvement.
Nice tips. Everyone more balanced, smooth and controlled too. I know when I don't rush my swing I get better results but I still sometimes get too quick.
Great video. I had a coach years ago that taught your third drill. Rather than "One and Two" he had us say "Er-nie Els" as that was a pretty good swing to emulate for tempo.
Thanks Cr ... good practice ideas .. as a musician, I count a triplet back and strike on the "1" on the downswing.
I was taught to say “100 and 2” and have basically used from the start 2 years ago. Because I have a problem not finishing to a complete finish, I have added “3” in order to make I complete it.
Love it David, to be honest we can use any worlds, but I do think they help
I love the way so many want to criticise the professional's instruction.
Thís is amazing - great drills and tips - thank you so much sir
Firstly your out of the toe drill for driver has worked heaps. Still a lot of work to do but with the help of contact spray I’ve moved face strike from heel to “general”middle-toe. Now 1&2 tempo is awesome even though you didn’t mention it, it’s a great pre shot routine to set you up for this swing. Fell apart on back 9 today I would 100%put it down to tempo or rushed swings.
Very understanding video thanks alot for the video keep them coming 👍
Cracking drills Chris.
Thanks
Great video Chris ..like the one AND two drill..could you suggest a drill for the club coming back from the top of the swing to get lag and doesn’t go over the top..I seem to struggle on how to get the arm lower and a more rounded swing..thanks
Love all three of these drills. I can definitely see them improving tempo and ball striking!
Thanks Nick
Nice tips.Makes total sense. Many thanks.
Outstanding swing training video. Loved it. Saving video and will review numerous times. I'm practicing the swing as I write this to you.
Thanks Dennis appreciate it
Great video yet again! Your videos are always so informative and I like to revisit them to remind myself of interesting facts.
How accurate have you found the hand speed in Blast?
excellent video Chris, I am noticing a slower more deliberate take away is giving me better contact. Your videos have been very helpful.
Great to hear and often a slower first move away can give that improvement
Great video thanks Chris. Will definitely try these out. Can you go too slow on the backswing? If you look at guys like matsuyama and morikawa they’d seem to be more like a 4:1 ratio and they’re obviously two of the best iron players around. For the amateurs is it a case of potentially losing rhythm when we do that? I’ve recently tried to be very slow and deliberate on the backswing to get my hands in a better place but I wonder whether I’ve taken this too far.
Yes you can go too slow and throw tempo out. I’d say that those you need ruin are probably closer to 4:1, but they would be the exception
excellent video and drills Chris, definately going to use these drills next time I'm at the range👍👍
Thanks Jon
Nice package of drills Chris 👍
Hey chris great instructions as usual ! I was thinking one- two while i was swinging but not the and ! Now i will !
Thanks Mike, that little word added could make a huge difference, hoping it does for you
Excellent as always Chris! You have such a nice swing!
Thanks
bud i love you like literally it was what i was struggling with and you post this video
thnx :)
Haha, glad the timing was good 👊👊
Excellent advice, makes a ton of sense…
Always a pleasure watching your videos!
Thanks Christopher
Thanks Chris. I’ve struggled with tempo since day 1. Gonna try these drills today.
Thanks Steven, a feeling of a ‘slow’ swing would really help, even through we want plenty of speed down at the ball
Brilliant, Chris. Just don't get cold outside, please, we need you!))
Thanks for another helpful and easy to understand video Chris! All the best for the new year! Cheers.
Thanks
Just an amazing video 👊🏼 keep up the hard work m8.
Thanks
Hi Chris, great vid. Tempo was exactly what I needed to work on. Went from an 87 yesterday to an 80 today. Thanks again! 🙌😎🏌♂️
Thank you so much for the video Chris, it really works on my swing practice. Could you share the application name on your phone for measuring speed and distance? Thanks again 😃
Thanks, it’s the blast golf app I’m using here
Thnx Chris for this great video. Could you share what app are you using to get these data? thnx again
This video was awesome. Great way to think about the swing. Really great content!
Thanks Jordan
I implemented this today on a course out here in Colorado that I've never played before. I shot my best round. Finished with a 97. Every shot I was in my head "1 and 2." Lol
Dont really agree that a fast backswing is a problem, a lot of pros have backswings as fast as the one on the left side, it's just that in this video you did not really get to anywhere near the top on the backswing and did not finish the backswing before starting down. For some people like me, a slow backswing causes more problems than a fast one
I’d agree that some have fast backswings, but they generally have fast Dow swings allowing them to match the tempo. All to often when a golfer tries to swing quicker then increase the backswing speed, loose the tempo and produce no extra speed. A good tempo was the message in the video, a fast backswing is fine if you can generate club speeds over 100mph 🙏🏻
True a better clean hit generate in a longer Shot. But to generate longer Shot you need to generate higher swingspeed and ofcourse The rigth hit on The blade. but i watched your swing now ur good swing was faster. I migth missunderstood The titel. But its 2.diffrent swings so in my mind The better swing was a normal swing good video.
good stuff, thanks, keep up the good work
New to your channel Chris, been playing catch up with your videos but really like how simple you make everything, this is certainly something I'll be putting into practice as I do tend to rush the downswing 👍
Thanks Peter and welcome to the channel, really hope that some of the videos can help
Great stuff as always!!!
Two words. Simply Awesome! 👍😎🇦🇺
Thanks Marcus
This is priceless.
feel some of this applies to my love making.....
Great tip Chris. Thanks
Thanks Paul
Great information there Chris
Thanks Tommy
Hi John just subscribed to your channel.enjoyed you lesson , hopefully enjoy many more Dave 🇮🇪
Thanks David and welcome to the channel
Damn that is a great video! You are so clear in your explanations.
Thanks so much 👍👍
Jack Nicklaus used the song
Moon Riv-er...
Great Video. My number one struggle; tempo.
It is for many James, hope this helps through
Chris, seeing instruction on UA-cam, teaching fast start of backswing, but slow in transition. Your thoughts ?
Hey Jeff, I do like to see a fair bit of energy int the swing early on, but definitely see too many who rush the transition so a little smoother there can help so many
Hey Chris I always look forward to your videos. I was having a problem with fat strikes now I'm striking too far infront ,about 4 to 6". Is this from a forward sway . If not what? Can you give me some advice.
Hey Randy, it’s likely that you are shifting too much forward he’s, either that or you are swinging the club too much out to in, one of those is probably the cause of that issue
To be fair, the second swing was way shorter so naturally had to be quicker and slower swing speed.
Was going to make the same point too. No surprises that greater shoulder rotation leads to higher club head speed. Still, the notion of a slower back swing is more likely to lead to a larger shoulder turn and better results. If only I could consistently implement this on the course 🙄
Unrelated question but, should the ball be moving back in a straight line? If it doesn't is this an indication of something?
Excellent Video
Thanks Scott
how about Jon Rahm? he has a very fast tempo on the backswing. Thank you!
Hey Victor, yes his tempo is definitely quick, but would still fit this 3:1 ration due to his quick downswing too
Well that second swing was no faster... was just MUCH shorter! That was a Rahm backswing. You should compare 2 swings of the same lenght at 2 different speed to actually mean something
So I’ve also heard to have a fluid backswing that feels like you’re “swinging” the club back, not raising it back, in order to use legs and remove arms. When I do this I feel like I’m trying to place my arms into a position which I’ve been told not to do. Any clarifications here ?
the right was a long swing and on the left was a short swing
New golfer! Great tip! What app is that.
Thanks Sam it’s the Blast golf sensor and app, great tool to help your swing
Ive always wanted to incorporate my baseball swing of sorts into my golf swing
What app is that, and does it require extra equipment? Great Video and tempo and speed for the golf swing!
Hey Jonathan, it’s the blast golf sensor and app, does require a device that sits in the end of the club, but really great piece of kit
My swing has gotten too fast… and very inconsistent. I’ve been trying to slow it down, and have started seeing some improvements. This may be the advice I need to finally get back the tempo and rhythm I’ve been missing!
Thanks 🙏🏻
Hi chris how would the tempo compare with the driver would it be the same 1 and 2
Thanks
It would yes, tempo stays the same
Thanks
What app is he using?
Every time I try to develop swing speed, i mess up my swing. When I stop thinking of swing speed and swing naturally, I hit the hit the ball sweeter, higher and more consistently.
What app is it that tells you your swing tempo and swing speeds??
It’s the blast golf sensor and app, great device 🙏🏻
Great video, I rush all my shots
You are certainly not alone Garry, hope this helps through
Does anyone know the name of the phone app Chris is using to track the shots?
It’s the blast sensor and App
Swing on left no body rotation
What app is that on your phone that tracks your swing?
Hey, it’s the blast golf device and app 🙏🏻
Hi Chris, can this apply to driver as well?
Yes absolutely
What app do you use for the stats?
Blast golf sensor and app
These are great drills that I'm definitely going to try. But the problem I always run into is my hands and arms won't let my weight shift without firing. Everything always has to go together.
Hey Dan, sounds like a sequencing issue here, never east to work on but you are right that you need to get your body leading the downswing
Thank you Chris, I really never knew that until I started watching these videos because I've made it work. I just figure getting it fixed will help my consistency.
What's up with the beard Chris? I had a double take and thought your mask had slipped of your nose. Are you channelling Dustin Johnson? Just ribbing ya big fella, great video and very good 👉points
And yet I have to relearn this every shot!
Well the left was a much shorter backswing
It was really short, actually felt a little longer than that
You didn’t slow your downswing, simply slowed your back swing. Do the same 2 swings on a sim that shows club head speed at impact. The “good” shot is probably faster
Both Jon Rahm and Tony Finau have quick swings and faster tempos.
Agreed, but there is a difference between a fast tempo and a poor tempo. I’d guess that both of those players still work on 3:1ratio. If you can generate huge speeds on the downswing you can afford to have that speed going back.
I'm pretty much smashing the ball already.
So Rahm seems to have a quick short take away and an insanely quick transition. Is there something special he does? Or is he just a freak of nature??
Hey Ashley, yeah he is pretty quick but his tempo is quick, would still be a 3:1 ratio but as his downswing is so short and fast his backswing has to match. The issue I see with so many is a quick backswing and transition but slow at impact, this completely throws the tempo out. If you can be 120mph at impact you can afford to be a little quicker in the backswing 👍
@@ChrisRyanGolf yeah... I can't seem to get above 114 :/
You can also swing faster and hit it further
The faster swing was also a shorter swing. It looked like a 3/4 swing to me.
certainly was a much shorter swing
To be fair you took a deeper back swing on the first one. That is why it was a better shot.
What are you using to measure your swing speed?
The blast golf sensor and App
Left swing was half the length of the right hand swing - so it would always be quicker. Shame you could not get the swing lengths the same,e would;d have had more meaning
100%
