3 years after liking this and I have listened to many more DFAM performances. I just came back to this one again and I have to say that of the many DFAM fans and aficionados out there you are really the one that totally understood this instrument from the very beginning. Probably even more than the genius who designed it. I will never sell the two that I have and I plan to spend much more time with them now that I’ve had this refresher course.
This is so sick, great work on this machine. I use a DFAM myself in some of my techno but it's a tough beast to wrangle. So unpredictable, and little changes on the controls have such huge impact on the sound. You really show off how patience & restraint - slow, smooth changes - are what make this machine sing. Second the popular idea in comments that a huge pounding 4-on-the-floor kick would have made me leap out of my chair to dance at certain points :)
The DFAM sounds amazing! I don't like loud noise, sound, or even loud music really, so I know when something makes me want to turn it up, it must be something special. :) Thanks for sharing!
That is a very beautiful video! I’m very happy that my DFAM will arrive this week. Amazing pallet of sounds from one little machine! And very, very Tracey :-)
Imagine the amazing live sets you could play if you know what was going to come out of the DFAM! But I guess that would take away from the exploration and free form expression. Best advice is have another drum machine on hand for when you create a big build up so you can always get back to a beat when you need it. With that said the DFAM is easily my favorite synth!
I was having difficulty with the Dfam until I layered in my TR8. Even if you only line up one kick per cycle, it ties everything together and makes the DFam sit in the mix really well. Gets harder when you try to do anything outside of typical techno beats, but I'm a n00b and still learning.
@@christophervincent77 Yeah the TR8 would be perfect, sometimes you can dial in a nice kick, but I find it's better to make all the other sounds on the DFAM and have a solid reliable kick. also pair it up with Delay and Reverb to really fill in the sound, I have sends on the TR8s not sure about the TR8.
At 13:27 if you dropped in the right kick and some hi hats it would be blast off time. So many interesting detours would be possible in this gorgeous long form jam. Really impressive workout on the DFAM, very dynamic throughout, love the timing and subtle tweaks. Also aesthetically, this looks really great wide screen format. Just got the DFAM, SUB, and MOTHER, this is easily one of the best DFAM videos I've seen, subbed and liked. Very inspirational.
Love it. Just got a DFAM this week. It is ALIVE....... Delay and reverb ad an extra dimension, especially those echoing cut-off filter blips you do. Any chance you could share a pic of the panel settings at the start ? Nice work.
This is a terrific sound. I've been researching DFAM and other options for a while and I am swaying towards DFAM. Just out of interest are you using the Octatrack to create the pulse and sequence the DFAM? It's one of the best sounds I've heard coming out of it for sure so congrats. I'm working on a dark noise project and i'm interested in DFAM also for making weird distorted noises and it looks good for that as well. Thanks for reading.
@@andyexplorestheworld2467 Yeap, pure dfam 🙏😋🙏 But it is not all that easy. The machine is unpredictable in many cases and it always hard for my to make it play well with others because of the pitch control. But that's also what makes it spacial. Dfam and mother 32 must to have combo. But of course it is great on its own.
@@perellovemusic Thanks! I play a Lyra 8 and that is the same so unpredictable but again that's what makes it ace for sonic exploration. The DFAM is next on my list. I haven't managed to try one yet but the sound is out of this world. Just out of interest the stuff I make is much slower, can DFAM do very low BPM? Sorry for all the questions! It's really helpful
Hello, did you prerecord your tracks into a DAW or are you playing on multitrack mode? You got more than one sequence going on. I know there is two isolators, but it just sounds like there's more than two tracks going on. It's quite excellent!
Hello man! I’m still doubting about getting one of these, I have a roland tr8s and a korg volca fm, I definitely want to get something different, I make techno, and love percussive sounds and sequences, do you think this would be a good option?? It wouldn’t be used as a drum machine directly, because I have the Roland as I said before! I’ll wait for your answer, thank you!!
Wait can someone help me understand, is this the dry sound of the instrument all by itself or is the artist doing some kind of mastering/adding reverb and the like
Complete newbie question.... In different setups I allways see a reverb add on. Why is that? Those Moog's are full of effects and stuff, so why the reverb? might seem a dumb question, sorry for that. thx for considering an answer.
DFAM is ok to do Minimal on its own but needs other machines for compos. Not keen on minimal myself as it gets a bit boring but some of the rifts are very interesting It`s missing something I don`t know what to call it, maybe "body", "atmosphere", "sub theme", "accompaniment", patching". Or simply layered with other sounds. Like "Ghost in plain site" says below, you don`t know whats comming out so needs composition, layering. It`s a series of rifts with the same beat, almost the definition of Minimal.
actually, in this case you're right. the reverb is resonating and creating a constant tone which does detract from the DFAM. This is a great track though.

Totally agree.
I, too, come back to this again and again in awe:)
I love the inspiration I get from these types of tunes and amazing fellow Moogers
I just did a meditation to this, and it was delicious. Thank you!
Been researching the moog studio and this is the first time I've heard a composition like this. It's strangely cathartic. Well done
I just bought second dfam 3 mothers a subharmonicon a matriarch and 3 strymon pedals
Yes! Some really good slow knobtunrings ;)
Very nice sounds. There are so many places during the jam, where i just want THE DAMN KICK COME IN !!!!!!!!

Cool dark marching tune ❤ subscribed
This was a joy from start to finish. I'm picking up a DFAM soon and you've given me something to aspire to. Thanks!
Can't stop watching this jam! Will definitely give the DFAM a try... Thanks for the inspiration with all your great sessions!
Only 4 minutes in and loving it so much. Great job 👏
Great jam, thank you.. sounds like one of the best drummachines in the universe
imo best techno sounds in the universe than a drummashine.
I love it! First video which really let me hear the incredibly beautiful qualities of the DFAM. Thank you!
this thing is just so amazing. it can do the minimal techno standalone by itself. love it. love how you play around with it. pretty inspiring, mate
this thing sounds like all the real techno tracks were made with this thing... a kick some hats and go. absolute techno monster!! 👹
dfam has the craziest textures. awesome!
Very nice tweaking . . . the sounds are very nice indeed . . , great beats and great mixing.
I was clapping and cheering at the end!
That is awesome - thanks for sharing. I think you have just convinced me to buy one!

i feel the exact same way
Thank you sir
Still I have a lot to learn but thanks for getting me lazy ass off the couch and back to my dfam
your skills inspire me
Very tasty for the ears and nicely done! 👍
awesome jam! Hooked from the start.
That is a very beautiful video! I’m very happy that my DFAM will arrive this week. Amazing pallet of sounds from one little machine! And very, very Tracey :-)
I typed “trancey” not “Tracey”! Damn autocorrect!!!!!!!!
This is a fine example of how easy, and enjoyable, time is to kill on the DFAM
This is just awesome, man!
Also dope "Film Look"
If you could eat music, this would be a 5 star buffet
Ha Ben c’est quand même pas mal la progression sur le son, les harmoniques et la rythmique. Chapeau camarade du son ! 😊
Very beautifully done!
Very nice sounds, love it
fantastica jam session hipnotica
That was great 🖤
This is top notch stuff. Subbed.
Thanks, I think it is my best video :)
Perel Love Music I just bought the DFAM/32 combo. Looking forward to playing. I’m glad to see the DFAM can do ‘subtle’. Thanks for posting man.

nice jam! DFAM is my favorite analog synth also. you can do so much more than percussive sound with it!
Fantastic. Great work.
I enjoy very much!!
Well tasty, can't wait to get a dfam. Really nice noise you've made here
Actually, I take that back. After listening to it all, .it's f'*king brilliant. Lovely stuff
Impressive.
just a,azing and inspiring!!
Glad you think so!

It was solo machine 🙏😋🙏
Awesome! Thanks.
Excellent
Yes good sir yes!
Very well done my friend!
Belle session bravo
This is so good It's imploring for a fat kick!

I’m coming back to listen to this every now and again. Sooo good!
Did you use the memory man as a looper or as a delay only?
Minus the actual sound of the synth would this style of music be achievable on the polyend tracker?
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯

Yes, Octatrack just sending clock to dfam and adding reverb and delay.
It is perfect for your project 🙏
@@perellovemusic Thank you. It's such a cool sounding machine. So the great sound is really the DFAM? I have other reverb and delay pedals.

Great! What is the reverb model?

Be aware that there is no midi on this thing
It is not a drum machine 🙏
I do jot think it will do the drum machine work well
Am I seeing it right that you are getting clock input from the Oktatrack? And does the clock input take Sync?
Yes!
How’s that?
Octatrack only sends out MIDI clock and no CV right?
Wait can someone help me understand, is this the dry sound of the instrument all by itself or is the artist doing some kind of mastering/adding reverb and the like
minun musiikia voi kuunella Facebookista.
Dope...subscibed!
sounds great...sorry but where patch the in ADV/Clock to??
It receives strong audio trigs from Octatrack to adv/clock
@@perellovemusicCare to explain what is the reason for that as opposed to using its internal tempo? Thank you!
Oh My D(fam)! Fucking insane man 🤘
DOPE‼️
Good stuff, are you still jamming with it? I might buy this with a Mother or Sub
shit hot...can i ask a uestion ive just got minibrute 2 how do i get these to playing together..im newbie so easy answer pref
Sync to dfams adv/clock
This machine is universal
I wanna put drumset to this👊
Lo malo es no poder colocarlo al ritmo de tu producción ya que no tiene entrada digitales 🧐
subbed

Too much reverb . I think it kills the raw feel of what you are doing
impossible

I like it this way, in that specific jam. Because this is the only instrument playing. But I understand what you sre saying.

this is not music
I feel sorry for you
