  • Moog's Drummer From Another Mother (DFAM) is one of the finest analog standalone drum machines. Below you'll find a bit of explanation what happens here...

    MY RELEASES ON SPOTIFY:
    open.spotify.c...
    ________________________________________________________________
    The pitch is connected with the noise level (that's the white cable). You can see the knob position clearly around 1:19. The fifth pitch knob is in the highest position, that's why the noise is loudest at the fifth beat. Whether you hear that white noise of course depends on the low pass filter.
    Furthermore the 8 pitch knobs affect VCO 2 which I bring in around 0:42. I then change the amount of the FM synthesis - meaning that instead of playing the "melody" it changes the tone of VCO 1.
    Around 1:30 I change the VCO Decay and the VCO 1 EG Amount drastically - that's the funny sound that I use from time to time to make you smile.
    Later I combine this with a shortening of the VCA Decay. Around 3:00 I change the tuning of VCO 1 - it's difficult to hit the right tones and I fail slightly, but you get the idea.
    Around 3:50 I change one of the pitch knobs and you can hear the impact of this on the noise level.
    At 4:20 I change the wave-form of VCO 2 from triangle to square. The rest is repeating these ideas in different combinations.
    A last note: When I stop the machine on the first beat, I turn the VCA Decay up to have a nice final tone. I love that bass.

    Best dfam jam I've seen, really shows alot of the potential without much patching. Definitely my next module.

      Thanks a lot for your kind words! Much appreciated! This was my first serious jam (after one week of playing around). Nowadays the DFAM is often buried with so many other sound sources - I think I should try this minimal approach more often again!

    Nice to see someone churning out some actual melody from this thing; most of the DFAM videos on here are just caucophanoius exercises in the art of annoying your neighbors. Bravo! 🤘

    Edging towards this little beauty. For a while I’ve been looking at purchasing the Roland tr8s but this moog is a real hands on machine. Looks like a lotta fun. Who needs presets right?

    • @BlackSnowOnChristmas
      @BlackSnowOnChristmas  3 роки тому +1

      Yeah, it's great. And actually it's not that complex - it doesn't take much time to figure out how to get which sounds. You don't need notes etc. So I absolutely recommend it, if you dig the sounds!

    • @Error6503
      @Error6503 3 роки тому +1

      The world really doesn't need any more music with TR808 hats, snares and (especially) claps all over it. Get the DFAM and every piece of music you make will be absolutely unique. You can always download an 808 plugin for Ableton if you want to sound like everybody else.

    • @BlackSnowOnChristmas
      @BlackSnowOnChristmas  3 роки тому

      @@Error6503 Absolutely yes! But at the same time this is true for most analog drum machines - you can always get much more than the usual library sounds!
