Thanks for the great videos you are my favorite on UA-cam, I recommend your stuff to all my friends. At age 69 and after 50 years of playing golf I feel like I am in the light for applying the correct fundaments. Kept them coming!
Absolutely brilliant video. I’ve watched many videos, but this one I rate as the best. I immediately got improvement using this pre-stroke drill guide for irons & woods. I’d love a similar one for the driver; I see you mentioned keeping armpit over ball at strike. Thank you again 67 years old & reinvigorated thanks to you! 😊
Another piece of gold! Different topic but I've been able to simulate your towel drill in our 3-5" of snow and hitting foam balls. It pretty much locks your feet! A little over 2 months to go until courses start opening here
Hi Giles, this is absolutely brilliant!! So important to be able to have an individual goal based on our own flexibility and physical build! I love the fact that you've given some really good ideas on how to take this drill onto the course to help during a round. Similar advice around driver swing would be appreciated. Love your work!
Very informative video…after watching this I realized I’ve always over-rotated my left hip causing the whole lower body to break down as you noted…the question is what position should the left hip be in at the end of the follow through?
Excellent Drill Giles. Setting up for impact is a good way to trigger our golf swing. It gets us moving. Too many golfers tend to get stagnant or frozen over the ball. After watching several of the Pro’s this past weekend, in San Diego, I noticed they were constantly moving before impact… I think most of us amateurs could benefit from this, as it takes some of the tension out of us, and therefore our swing…
Giles, I see a lot of videos on the position of the elbow in the lead arm. I setup with a strong left hand grip but my left elbow looks more like my right elbow (facing out). Other youtube coaches recommend left elbow pointing at target. Thoughts? maybe an idea for an upcoming video? As always, some of the best golf instructional content on the internet.
A great video. Thank you. However, as you know your demographic then why not make a video specifically for them? As a 50 year old (with both hips being replaced 10 years ago) I had to relearn my swing and contact set up. At your age I was hitting off 3, these days I’m almost as fit, just a bit stronger, and have had to re learn the impact position a couple of times just to keep a single digit handicap. Especially have a couple of breaks from the game due to business activities. My range of motion is up on the 26 year old version of me as my hips were discovered to be faulty when I was 8.
@@Gilesgillgolf I get that part. Perhaps what I was trying to explain was missed. Living on a golf course (also HQ for PGA Australia), and having a par 3 tee as my backyard I see so many golfers struggling with this. Especially ones that lack your youth and flexibility. Just think most of your audience will not pay much attention to this. I 100% agree with this video, still just don’t believe it will resonate with the masses as much as you hope it will. Perhaps a similar video designed from the start, with you pretending you’re almost 3 times your age. My 28 year old son who hits of scratch and is also a full time golfing instructor agrees and has altered my father’s swing to compensate for him approaching 80. Just a thought.
Hi everyone, who’s done this drill & found out that they can’t rotate as much as they thought?

Wow, thank you so much! I’ll keep them coming

Great to hear! Will keep that in mind for driver but yes you have the checkpoint right there

Nice work! Hope your game is shaping up nicely for the new season

Thank you! Yes it’s very similar with driver but the ball will be under you lead shoulder
Great exercise! A coach that finally matches things to the player!!!!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it
This is actually brilliant content - theory plus practical application. Thank you!
Glad you liked it!

That depends on your flexibility levels but as long as you’re able to maintain balance then you should be in an okay spot
Reminds me of Gary Player's kick in to start his swing. Great stuff Giles.
Definitely does! Thank you!

Exactly! Pros are always rehearsing the positions they want to achieve, especially the impact position
Think- Matthew Wolf. He hits it pretty good….

I’ve spoken about that in previous videos. Go check out my setup for longer drives video
Great video. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you liked it!
When doing the initial rotation portion of the drill is it ok to let the back heel come off the ground slightly?
Yes it is

But this video is for everyone… the whole point of the drill is that each person can find there own impact
