@Gilesgillgolf: Yes please! I’m a physicist and we love data; the more the better. As for my stock distances they have decreased significantly over the past decade - I’m in my 50s now - but I think I can use what you teach to gain some distance back. Golf courses are not getting any shorter!
Genius! Best teacher who actually explains step by step where each part should be and what it should be doing. Just got yourself a new subscriber. I'm pretty much just letting my turn hit the ball and no compression. Hopefully I get this and get me swinging correctly.
Hi...best instruction I've seen for the turn. You clearly show the mechanics of the move. I've seen others try to explain it, but your explanation make perfect sense. Decided your a man to follow..!! Thanks a bunch.
Excellent, only just found this video but subscribed immediately. This is the best, no nonsense, straight to the point, description of the two release patterns I’ve ever seen 👏
Great video! I've slowly gone from a long to average to slightly below-average distance player, despite not losing any strength or flexibility. Turns out...my grip was just getting weaker and weaker. I'm still struggling to get my weight into the left foot ball and then heel, but these drills are helping a lot!
Excellent job Giles on explaining how to get added distance with the irons! Many years ago, I moved my weight to my right heel on the backswing and to the left heel on the downswing. Because of a hip injury, I began to restrict my hip turn to prevent additional injury to this area. I am now going for chiropractor treatments and this situation is being addressed and eliminated. I am now getting more freedom of movement in my hips which in turn gives me more rotational power. I am gradually working my way back to the distances I once had. Your videos Giles have been very helpful in my rebound! Thanks Again!! Keep Up the Good Work!
That weight shift to the ball of the lead foot is absolutely the hardest thing for me to get a grip on. I have taken a lot away from your videos. My accuracy with scoring clubs has shown a remarkable improvement from the tips you have provided on take away, when to hinge, how to hinge and how to keep the club on plane. I'm going to try this, including the drills. A modest improvement in strike efficiency would make my game so much better. Wish me luck and thanks for sharing.
Love your videos Giles! Do you have any more videos on footwork and eventually getting weight onto the lead heel & staying in balance to deliver the force( to create the swing speed)? Im having some trouble. (If not - can you add it to as an upcoming topic video?)
The impact position with the hips turned and glutes pushed back is so crucial and it’s quite achievable for most amateurs with a lot of practice. Ie me!!
Excellent drills to insure correct impact position! It is a shame that millions of golf lessons are given each year yet players continue to struggle to achieve a 25 handicap. Your straight forward approach is easily duplicated and yields amazing results in a very short period of time, making this seemingly difficult game much more enjoyable.
great video Giles!!! One thing though I see that theres a roughly 2 degree decrease in the launch angle before and after. Is that something to consider as per myself i struggle w my M2 8 irons launching at ~30 degree and have no idea how to reduce it @@??

Great video and it’s a drill I think I need. Being 60 yrs old now has created speed issues for me, and I’ve likely been forgetting the importance of rotation. Great information with explanations plus a drill is what really makes the difference.

Played for 26 years . Best hc was 10 when I was younger - at 45 I’m playing off 13. Even after all these years if I ever try to concentrate on my hip rotation and try to be open at impact I spin out with my shoulders . Mental or physical block I don’t know 🤷♂️
Hey Giles use fan of your channel some of the flaws you have been describing are ones I have. I am doing what you are doing in this video but still struggle with a duck hook or snap hook is there something I should be focusing on in the down swing that may help this? I don’t want to have to change my neutral to strong grip
@@Gilesgillgolf There is always a debate as to whether the hands should be in front of the trail or lead leg at impact with irons, so I think a slow would clear that up. Great instruction by the way.
If your clubheads are offset & you square the face at address, the handle will be already in the shaft lean position with the grip pointing at your front pocket. If you keep the thumbnail of the top hand on top of the grip in the backswing, your wrist will be flat with no cup or bow at the top. If that position is held at the top you'll have the wrist cock & lag you need into impact. This is only from my experience but should be the same for most.
@@Gilesgillgolf I understand your point that you can't hold angles but I was under the assumption that the angles would be released thru impact which has been my issue for a long time, meaning where do you release, especially the wrist angle? I'm not casting from the top or losing the angles in the downswing but to tend to flip at the bottom at times. The timing of the release is what I need to find. I appreciate your reply.
Any serious golfer knows that when you hit off a golf mat that it will go further and is easier. If you really want to prove anything you are saying then you should hit off the actual ground. Everyone knows the ball and club acts totally different from a mat then hitting of the ground

I noticed today a correlation between preventing my shots from leaking right and raising my lead heel on the back swing. I think this move practically forces the toe to heel weight shift on the lead foot, which you coincidentally describe in today's video. I think lifting the left heel is great for adding backswing rotation which can have a lot of benefits like increasing depth. As well as that is can help promote that good foot work on the way down

Is it compression or angle. I noticed the longer distances basixally had a lower launch angle.
Lower loft at impact produces more compression which lowers flight. Can’t have one without the other
