Yes but in the end he went out on his own terms and snuffed himself ; in a perverse way songs like this remind me …. only speaking of me and my manic depression… that you never ate the most depressed Also live your commentary but you should stick to the sings intention in that in the dnd he kills himself but dies it pridefully and defiantly and ends it in his own terms . We shouldn’t sugarcoat or judge that outcome either
I think the sound your asking about was more in the middle of the solo, wherein Glenn Tipton did a string pinch and it creates a sharp piercing sound. It isn’t a harmonic or muting of other strings to allow the high note to carry as he did at the end of the solo. A string pinch is a little more difficult to perform exactly right. It can also happen accidentally. This was before Glenn shared his Parkinson’s Diagnosis, but you can already began to see his slowed movement and playing, but he still hit that solo. That might be the first time I’ve heard him pinch that note in the solo; so I cannot say if it was intended or not.
Fantastic deep emotional song. Specially if you have mental struggles. Also one of my favorite Judas Priest solo's 1st , by Glenn Tipton . A pioneer himself, along with his counterpart KK Downing, as they marched themselves, and us all from hard rock in to to realms of Heavy Metal . Thank you for reviewing this band/song . If you do get a chance have a listen to the studio version, it is equally as powerful, and ever so slightly different, in vocal phrasing . Cheers from Australia. 😎🤘
ROB HALFORD went through a fair amount of emotional distress himself - he was gay when it was still stigmatized and dealt with drug and alcohol dependencies fortunately he has moved past those issues for many years
Music can really be a saving grace. I have never wanted to live, but my friends and family won't let me go. Whenever things get too difficult to handle, I have to go back and listen to the song that saved my life back in 1988. It's an anti-suic!de song by the band Kix. It's called, "Don't Close Your Eyes". Thanks for what you do!!
I know it's not a popular Priest song but you should listen to Run of The Mill..very, very early Priest and such an incredible, melancholy song about getting old. Thanks for what you do.
@ where did anybody say that? I’m not sure where you picked that up from but to be honest, for me anyway, the really good priest albums, pretty much stopped after defenders of the faith so everything from defenders back to the beginning is still in my playlist in some form, but I don’t recall ever saying that I only listen to the first album.
These are the kind of bands that I grew up with. I really didn't understand all the lyrics because I don't have my hearing aids in. Thank you so much for breaking it down for us. It helps when I check these songs out on Utube music videos for the songs and lyrics. This way I get a better understanding of the message the band is trying to get across. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on this song. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
You needed to hang out with me in the mid 80's as I was all over Judas Priest and stuck with them until now. They're still making incredible music in 2025
The technique the guitarist uses is called a harmonic. By lightly touching the string it suppresses the fundamental frequency of the note allowing the higher frequencies to ring out.
Rob Halford (the vocalist) would love to talk to you about these matters and his lyrics, he's very friendly and open, try to make contact with him to make a live together ❤️🙏🏼
You should check out Beartooth. Start with a track from their first album "Disgusting" and then check out a track from their recent album, "The Surface " to see the difference in the lead vocalist/song writer after he's gotten past his depression/alcoholism.
This song and a few other Priest songs were blamed on a double teen self ending. The parents of the teens tried to sue the band for encouraging their children’s actions by their music.
While its not perfect like it used to be, I have so much respect for Glenn Tipton who played that awesome solo at 7:12 while having Parkinsons :( He retired from touring few years later. My favorite guitar player of all time
This is the perfect Judas Priest song to react to for a mental health theme, since it clearly describes a deep depression.. it's also a beautiful sad song. I was trying to think if any other songs from them might be relevant to a discussion of mental health issues. Off hand I would say that "Screaming For Vengeance" is perhaps relevant to feelings of anger and resentment. "Breaking the Law" describes the singer's imaginary crime spree as stemming from how he feels "nobody cares if I live or die, so I might as well begin to put some action in my life." Well, maybe it's a stretch to connect them with the mental health discussion, but now that you've discovered Judas Priest, I think you'd enjoy many other songs of theirs. My very good friend Aldo passed away a few years back. They were his favorite band (and definitely one of my favorites, too), so they tend to remind me of him.
Rob Halford can still scream with the best of them! This is why you need to do research into various styles of music outside of what you're taught in the limited scope of school. There's so much out there to take in, especially within the heavy metal community.
He Is muting all the strings except the one he's on to make the feedback come in and also since you mentioned the metal gods you should react to Judas priest Metal Gods haha
Amanda do you reckon it will get easier am struggling more than ever now am trying to deal with it all but they seem to be stronger am than me how did you deal with it I don't want my light going out yet but maybe I should give up trying
Please do not give up. I don't know what your particular circumstances are, but I can assure you that problems do eventually get resolved. If your struggles are primarily internal/emotional, I would encourage you to talk to a good counselor if you can afford to. Or perhaps a trusted clergy member.
You are way off. This is about Rob Halford (singer) being gay and not being able to come out of the closet. Unfortunately society looked down on gay people at the time this was written.

I’m glad that you finally got around to checking out this tune.
Love & Peace.

"Victim of Changes" is another one of theirs with deep mental health substance. It's about digesting one's aging.
You got it. Listening to Judas Priest makes people feel powerful, which is exactly what people need when they are at their lowest and most vulnerable.

Love Judas Priest, seen them quite a few times over the decades. A mate of mine Andy Sneap now plays and producers for them which is rather cool 😁
Could you ask him what Ritchie is like I've heard he's really nice

Glad you're here to share that with us.

The 50th anniversary remastered version.
It's probably my favourite priest track.
@@stephenhitchen8753 Mine as well for sure!
So you guys stopped listening to JP after album #1?

Great reaction and a beautiful smile.
One of my favorite songs. Metal is (to me, anyway) very cathartic; it’s gotten me through some tough times over the years.
I admire your idealism and I am glad that you are able to find in music that is often all that has kept me going.

The last Rob does is masterpiece and superb class ! From scream til his darkest in one breath..
You needed to hang out with me in the mid 80's as I was all over Judas Priest and stuck with them until now. They're still making incredible music in 2025
Nice take on this song, this is one where it says more than just the words on paper and I like your take on it.
Peace.
It's funny you said Metal Gods because that is the title of one of their biggest songs
The technique the guitarist uses is called a harmonic. By lightly touching the string it suppresses the fundamental frequency of the note allowing the higher frequencies to ring out.
Masterpiece song
One of the best rock-metal band🤘
I'm just pointing out one line in this song. Rob literally says, "The wind kissed him goodbye, and then he died"
Rob Halford (the vocalist) would love to talk to you about these matters and his lyrics, he's very friendly and open, try to make contact with him to make a live together ❤️🙏🏼

I know you've reacted to Aurora in the past, I hiiiighly recommend "your blood"
It's such a good song!
This song and a few other Priest songs were blamed on a double teen self ending. The parents of the teens tried to sue the band for encouraging their children’s actions by their music.
It wasn’t this song but better buy you, better than me
Second best guitar solo ever played, number 1 will always be Painkiller of course.
While its not perfect like it used to be, I have so much respect for Glenn Tipton who played that awesome solo at 7:12 while having Parkinsons :(

Good choise ! Glenn looks so good in red and black outfit .

All hail the Metal Gods 🤘
Victim Of Changes - live from US Fest 1983.
Can do a reaction video to oliver anthony momma's been hurting.it will pull on your heart strings
Amazing song. Still think the 70's and 80's albums are the best. 👍🤘

I would give the studio version a listen as well. This is almost 40 years after the original release and Rob Halford's voice is immacualte.
He Is muting all the strings except the one he's on to make the feedback come in and also since you mentioned the metal gods you should react to Judas priest Metal Gods haha
I would love it if you could react to Annihilator - Alison Hell.
