In Part 3, I'm swatching the coloured pencils from last week's art haul and sharing my first impressions of both the Derwent Lightfast and Holbein Artists' Coloured Pencils. I'll also swatch four of my favourite Caran d'Ache Luminance colours, the Winsor & Newton Designers Gouache paints, and share a closer look at one of the Etchr sketchbooks I also purchased. Beautiful colors! I really recommend you water soluble pencils. I think you’d love the inktense by derwent. They come in beautiful colors (nothing garish) and when dry they are permanent which is wonderful to layer. Other beautiful ones are the Albrecht Duhrer by Faber Castell, these ones when wet they work just like watercolors and the color selection is as well amazing. Finally the museum aquarelle by Caran d ache are also amazing, these ones are a bit more opaque when dry, which is wonderful to creat under painting to later work with color pencil on top.
I think that my illustrator friend Mel uses the Inktense pencils! These all sound very intriguing, I may have to give them a try someday! Thanks for the suggestions, Francisco. :)
I use an eraser to help rub the leftover stickier ones off after peeling as best I can, works good... even better if you wet the sticker residue slightly too 🤗🤗🤗 (I had to do it to all my Derwent Drawing and Graphitint pencils last week that I bought because of you... dang, they’re gorgeous colours! I’m totally in love/lust with Derwent Drawing Pencils now.... and in dreamy love with Graphitint too). 🤩
Beautiful colour palette as always! Btw I have fallen in love with that Luminance Dark Indigo, the intensity of it is quite special! :) And yes I also noticed the Luminance crumbling the most. The Derwent hardly ever crumble, lovely pencils all of them including Holbeins! 🧡
Derwent are oil based pencils and Luminance are wax based pencils, this is why the wax pencils « crumbled » but I have both of them and love them very, very much 😊
The Luminance Dark Indigo is one of the colours I couldn't be without - I'm so glad you love it too! 🧡 It's so interesting to use their Pink White pencil over the top of it as well.
That was wonderful to watch, I love your colour palette and how you describe every shade! I’m getting the Derwent Lightfast Pencils for my birthday as I heard they work very well with the Derwent Drawing Pencils. Fun fact: I was just colouring with Caput Mortuum Violet when you swatched it - my favourite Polychromos besides Cinnamon 😊
Thanks Brigitte! 🧡 I hope you enjoy the Derwent Lightfast; they remind me a little of the Luminance and a little of the Derwent Drawing Pencils in the way they feel when working with them (both of which I love!). That's so funny about the Caput Mortuum Violet! Such a gorgeous colour.
Great video! I've been watching whilst doing my own painting and have made slow progress because I kept stopping because the colours sounded so good I wanted to see! 🤣 Your videos are such good company for when I'm drawing and so informative too! Thank you!

To get the labels off, warm them with your breath and sort of keep fogging them as you peel them off and they usually won't leave a residue and come off easier.
That's a great tip, thank you! I'll try that if I have some tricky labels (these ones actually came off very easily without leaving a residue, which was a nice surprise!).
Found more of your W&N gouache swatches! It looks like Acryla Gouache at it’s thickest dries more matte but also pencils seems to grip better to W&N gouache as there is no acrylics in there. I find my pencils sometimes glide over the Acryla, depending on the specific colour. 🧡
This is true! I don't tend to work over the top of Acryla gouache like I do traditional gouache (although I do use Acryla to paint over the top of pencil sometimes!).

My absolute favourite pencils have always been the Prismacolors but they’re so difficult to buy individually because of the price. You’re making me want to try out these different brands!xx
This made me want to swatch the colored pencils I recently got from Derwent! I am learning how to use them, I more used to watercolors, but I would like to start using them together. Your videos are really inspiring regarding mediums to try and enjoy the creative process!
Thanks Isabelle! 🧡 I know what you mean as I'm quite new to coloured pencils too. I've really enjoyed experimenting with them and mixing them with other media. Also, in case anyone is interested, Derwent's website is having a pretty good deal on the drawing set right now.
