It's like watching the council,1 working,6 talking.
Watching the way you recovered that I dont think I would be rushing to get you guys to do any work on any of my classic cars
Agree, too childish and millennial, unsubscribed ¡
Yip. Total bellends
It was surviving quite nicely until these guys found it 😩
These guys shouldn't be allowed near any machines and, cut out the swearing.
Pour oil down the plug holes. Ten say they want to start it! 😂😂
The wheel turning backwards is quite normal when the prop is locked
( in your case with a seized engine )
In this circumstance if 1 wheel goes forward the other 1 has to go backwards.
This can happen on land rovers on certain circumstances like when jacking up etc as the handbrake is on the prop shaft.
Hope that was of some help to somebody.
Looks like a good shell rear arches , tire well and general panels look bloody good be interesting to see it on the ramp
Loving this! I was 10yrs old when my Mum hired a brand new Sierra L in 1983! Same colour, remember the small headlight front didnt last long before all gor the wider Ghia model lights.
The facelift happened in 85, I believe. And yes, like you said, they all got Ghiaesque front ends
My friend had a d reg Sierra 1.6L with the bigger lights which were long range driving lights. The base version retained the smaller front lights with the slatted grill until the end. It was only the L & GL that got this upgrade. There was an LX release after the upgrade. There were 3 faces of the mk1 Sierra in Europe but in Latin American version which had the single headlight and slatted grill but had the indicator front fog light combo of the ghia

but given the amount of pornography available at the touch of a screen , they’re doing better than many from 1983 & 2023 😐👍
I had one of these on the same year in white only cost me £30 back in 1996ish. Such memories. Great car and very comfy too. Had a job on stripping it out and cleaning it as a plasterer had it before me and looked like he had blown up bags of skim plaster inside it. Good times 😀.
Great job lads hope to see this come to life and be restored 👍
I had in the 1990's 2 Sierras 1.6L and a 2ltr Ghia..my dad had a XR4i in the early 80's..if only I knew than what I know now I would of told him to keep it..he also had a 2.8 injection Capri.. after he sold the Sierra.
Yeah but you have keep them somewhere undercover and spend time on them. If I had kept every car I've had....I'd be a millionaire.
Looks like it should come up a treat with a good pressure wash! My dad had one as his first company car, Sunburst Red with the 1.6L 'lean burn' engine, registration A278 CCF. It seemed like an absolute spaceship at the time, compared to the old '70s turds he used prior to its arrival, and the next door neighbours' square-rigged Cortina and Granada.
It's the same engine as the Cortina. The pinto.
Best Engine for SIERRA was the V6 2.0 - 2.3 & 2.0 DOHC with 5 Speed Transmission soft and silent running ; missing this engine sound and ceapest way to drive a V6 ..... and the fun in snowy weather backwheel drifts ! @@Iaintwoke
@@wolfgangemmerich7552 Don't remember the V6 2l only the 2.8 and 2.9 Edit. My mistake apparently the same engine. Did much more work on Escorts with the CVH at the time. Didn't realise they made a smaller V6. I do remember the 2l V4 they put in the Transit Custom though. Sorry 😔
@@wolfgangemmerich7552 The V4 being earlier I believe in the old round nose Transit.

That is surprisingly clean, doesn’t look like it would take much to sort out! Good find 👍
Will be rotten underneath, not worth saving.
What a video!! Fair play boys!!! Subscribed on the back of this video!!! Best thing I have seen in a long time!!! Can’t wait for part 2!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks jonny! stick around we will get a part two!
My grandad bought an identical A reg Sierra 1.6L new back in the day. It was his pride and joy!
Back in the day, I used to be a ford mechanic at the main dealer in Stockport when your car was new ..! Then I went onto building and tuning. Oh,, and racing.. Good luck fella. ✌️👍🇬🇧
Classic fords have such a cult following it’s amazing really lovely Siera.
Its like watching Laurel and Hardy playing Mechanics. To be fair Guys well done.
Looking forward to seeing the concourse restoration of this one
😂😂😂
The Sierra was a fabulous car everyone owned one at one time. That upholstery will clean up like brand new.
A bit of TLC and she will be so nice to drive.
Totally agree
Top notch stuff, they have their faults but I love the mk1 sierra shape ..
Brilliant find .
You have won me back with this .
Although clever and ingenious I'm not in to lowering cars, after the imp I didn't think you would do a garage find again 👍👍
hahah thanks! i have no interest in lowering this car, back to stock and smarten up for this one!
@Joshwaa___ looking forward to the next one 👍
@@Joshwaa___near the start you mentioned old Ford's and rusty strut tops, tbh I've never seen a sierra with rusty strut tops, that's more the earlier generations of cars, like cortinas and rear wheel drive escorts etc etc, this generation of models like sierra, mk3 escort etc are more battery trays, sills, rear arches etc etc and yeah this one appears to have done very well, good vid 😊
I think a shout-out should be going to Sam, the carpenter guy. He's there working like a Trojan, scurrying around doing all of the jobs to make access to the car and get it moving whilst a lot of other spare parts stand around looking gormless pointing their phones at it. Respect to someone with a logical brain and who actually grafts.
he is the hero!
Excelente rescate... quiero ver parte 2❤
Had a few of them in 90s reliable cars except the 2.3 V6 that seized on me.
Good Afternoon Josh. What an Incredible barn find. I take my hat off to all and everyone who was involved in finding and bringing this Great British Icon of the 1980's. Pretty Good condition for the age of her. Really Good bodywork and paint very Good. She needs a really Good wash and a full detail on her. A very Good Interior clean and vacuumn. A nice bit of tidying up. Have a look at the Electricals as well. I am very Impressed Josh with your Barn find. I can not wait to see the finished project. All the Best to you and your Friends. 😃😃😃👍👍👍👍
thankyou jonathan, much appreciated! i am glad you enjoyed it!
You are Welcome.☺☺👍👍👍@@Joshwaa___
Congratulations on an amazing find. Great bunch of lads. Looked like a fun day 👍
thanks :)
Great episode man! Enjoyed every bit of it!
Ye have got to get it unseized!
working on it!!
our 64 yr old old buffer of a chum whom loves bangers but hasn’t his own internet & always turns up to distract & waste my afternoon has been captivated by your exploits which has allowed me to get on with the necessary instead of hearing the details of his generally uneventful week ! I’d began his distraction by showing the Austin A35 not having been started for 51 years video which in turn had recommended yours - so thanks guys & welcome to the 1980s …😁👍🐢
You’re welcome 😂
fantastic video! great family watch! proud to be an original fan.
Hello original fan! glad to see you and your family have had a fantastic viewing of this high production movie! i welcome you to many years of enjoyment of viewership
Had RED 1.6L in 2006 my dad built up the engine, brakes would let go at times and needed to pump pedal. It would stall at low speeds or slowing down due to vacuum leaks, so pretty much had to use all 3 pedals to slow down and handbrake too just in case I had to pump the breaks. At work the road was very steep, car 1.6 was so underpowered it killed 1st gear. Ended up using 2nd to set off from Stationary, along with all vacuum leaks and brake pumping. At work 2nd Gear wouldn't cut it on the steep road with 4x passengers so always reversed it up hill 200 yds, with people cracking up everyday seeing this madness. Eventually 2nd gear was on its way out, burnt the clutch after using 3rd gear all the time. Never let me down until it told me (smelled clutch and let go) that its time to say goodbye and rolled up on to street parking called scrap man to take it. What an adventure.
Funny you mentioning the 1.6, we had a red one as well. Lovely and big/comfy but it was so obvious that the car was too heavy for just a 1.6 petrol. Why oh why did't they just have the 1.8 diesel? and then all petrols at 2L+. It also made them very, very thirsty. As you say, imense amount of gear work involved to compensate.
@joebryant5722 I passed my test in 94 driving a Cortina Mk3 and that was a 1.3, looks like it was a trend of underpowered engines that carried on to Sierra.
Plugs out, lubricate upper cylinders first to avoid popping the rings. Core plugs can be suspect with a frozen block, head gasket etc. 😮
Ahh, the jelly mould car 😂❤😮
Just came across this video 😮 hope ya get her going 😊 I love a good old classic Ford I'm bringing back to life a 1982 Ford granada on my channel 😊 iv subscribed hopeing to see more ❤
Thanks !! i’ll be sure to check your channel!
@Joshwaa___ I love all old school ford's your vid was grate was a true time capsule find 😎
It looks very clean. So a very good project.
Subbed for the Sierra absolute beautiful car, i can not wait for the build series on that beautiful motor.
Nice Sierra well worth saving. It must have been sitting there since 1993... its last tax date was October 1st 1993 & it comes back to a green Sierra. This one looks blue.
Yes man love this car and your youtube channel
this is my childhood car. my mother and father had Sierra's. Dad a 1.8 L (1985 C943 PAU Blue of some description) Mum had a 2.0 GL (1983 A953 XNL Champagne Gold)
Loved it- great video
my first car was one of these, £250 - rotten, cylinder 4 pissing oil out the spark plug hole and tappets louder than a diesel and I loved it!
Great find - Looking forward to seeing the restoration on this. Subscribed 👍🏼
thanks you!!!
What an adventure !
An hour long episode what a way to start the week! Loving it man😁
happy monday !!!
Hey what a video 😊thanks a lot
My pleasure 😊
This was made the same year that I was born.🤯 I remember seeing loads on the road, so to me, it's a modern vehicle still 😅
🤣🤣🤣
Absolutely amazing vid a Sierra Mk1 these are very sought after. Remember a cozzy engine will drop right in there or a V6 Essex lump. As long as the body shell is in good condition its definitely worth doing. A replica Sierra Cozzy mk1 . Yes it should be done.
cozzy engine but sleeper would be very good 😂
Do people put windsor V8's in these?
@@JohnSmith-rw8uh I know the Windsor is a small block v8 but it's not an engine easily accessible in the UK . Our gift from Chevrolet here came in the form of Rover's infamous V8 which is right on the size and weight limit for many older British home market cars. i've seen a Granada stablemate to the Sierra with a Rover V8 engine installed but not a Sierra. That doesn't mean there isn't one in existence but its a person's own imagination that is the limiting factor. Rover V8s are harder than ever to find now dead or alive but basically this is because they've been out of production for at least 30 years and we're the coveted choice of engine for custom and hot rod builds in England. They've been tuned raced restored and classified to rarity and big money price tags are the norm for a complete engine.
@@twowheelexploration9228 find a Ford Scorpio and lift the Cosworth Cologne V6 out of it. Also a great upgrade for a Scimitar GTE.
Great old Sierra
Greatings from Sweden 👍🏻
It has the dreaded VV-carburetor. There's a large rubber below inside that carb that must be in order to get the engine to run.
These engines are very sturdy. Shouldn't be to hard to get it running.
Nice find!
I was going to upgrade to a weber, save me the hassle!
I have had 5 of these and one estate. The pinto engine is so easy to work on. I used tp remove the head, de-coke it, lap the valves and put all new gaskets on as well as a timing belt. The last one I had was the estate and it bad the 1.8 CVH engine. I prefer the pinto's. I used to change the fronts from single headlights to the double as they look better and fit the Ghia interior.
Just came across this channel what an exciting video! Can't wait to see more just subscribed 😊
Thanks man, check out the other videos too!
Always liked the siera. Watched a cosworth beat lota big v8s. Many years ago in nz. Was the grip n yer turbo. Before id seen a skyline. Cheers
How does this bloke own a garage when none of them seem to know about cars.
Okay buddy 😂
@@Joshwaa___ lump hammer chisel and pipe grips hitting its camshaft to free the engine or the alternator?? God knows how much time you lads wasted there, instead of just getting the thing out straight away and then having a proper look at it in the garage. Before you even have a go, me and my dad have rebuilt two cars, and engine conversion and a head gasket. But nice one on saving a rare car, but use your bus fare properly.
It was originally registered in Newcastle or Sunderland CCN,
that’s where the previous owner bought it 🤝
@@Joshwaa___ so its came from my end of the woods,
Assuming the clutch was working, I'd have tried dumping the clutch while it was being towed around the yard instead of dragging it. But it does seem pretty well seized.
I'd pull the plugs put realease oil or a bit of diesel down the bores
that’s what i was trying while it was being dragged, clutch was returning and felt normal but j think it was just bending something and the clutch plate was actually just seized instead 😂
Why not, might as well trash it rather than looking after the engine and refurbishing / rebuilding it properly!
@@Joshwaa___ 00
Great clip! Reminds me when I seen the original Ford Sierra designs on the wall of the property where the designed David Wilkie stayed with his parents in Glasgow. ( I looked after them both) I ended up having two Sierras myself. The clutches went all the time ! did not last long.
Good work, boys. Im viewing from Trinidad and Tobago 🇹🇹
How on earth do these people get sponsored.
Can't beat copper wired high tension leads for reliability for racing 😅
Absolute beauty I'd be interested if it gets running and the price is sound its still good to be a daily runaround, I'd have it over my volvo. Great find lads best a luck
Great car I remember looking at them brand new in the Ford dealers back in 83
haha damn! maybe you looked at this one 😂
This, the Taurus, Tempo and Thunderbird were all new futuristic vehicles for Ford back in 83.
Great find just around the corner from workshop . Sam needed down at my workshop :)
eveyone needs a sam!!
@Joshwaa___ I have a nephew by that first name. Also is training for carpentry right now. 😊
Let’s goooo! Home from work and some gresswells relaxation!
Proper episode for you!
Great fun fella’s. My dad had an A reg 1.6L from new and no word of a lie, the body work on yours is better than ours was when we sold at about 10 years old. It had no rear arches left in it at all. Hope you do another video 👍👍
there’s more videos on the channel :)
A plate would be 1984...the year I left school ! that'll be a Mk1 Sierra......we won't mention the car is on the road illegally...but..we'll ignore that 😂
Was thinking that myself 😮
Enjoyed this. Good on Sam
while it was in gear and in motion, just jerk the clutch. press it in and let it go. Trust me, works alot better than just having to drag it. it will put alot greater pressure on the system and dont forget to drown the pistons with WD . and dont forget, while in gear....clutch in clutch out, clutch in clutch out. It will jerk it loose!
oh yeah we did a bunch of that off camera we was trying all the tricks man, was a proper downer when we couldn’t get it to spin 😂
The British John Ludwick
haha, we’re very similar !!!
Found you from Taylors E28 episode and that sierra is pretty rammed in that shed! Nice find.
Thanks! hope you enjoy the rest of the videos 🤓
This was a mega watch! Looking forward to seeing the restoration
Throw those Champion spark plugs as far as you can out in the woods get some ACDelco or get you some Bosch
I was abt 9 or 10 years old when the Sierra first came out in 82/83 was very very modern car at the time, they were everywhere in the 80's.........
The compulsory fitting of catalysers for the export market really nobbled the high power output on the Ford range.... All politics by the American tree huggers... But all got top dollar in the UK 😅😅❤
27k views is crazy! keen viewer, been here since that "first" video of your mk ii. Good to see you get some recognition
33 on mine screen 😉 it’s awesome! thanks for sticking around !!!!
Pretty annoying how many times the cameraman says amazing, otherwise good content 👍
Amazing
Awesome
I stopped counting at 35,!!!annoying really, shame as good otherwise
Better than the stop frase horror
I didnt notice until I saw this comment. Thanks for that 🙄🙄🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You fellas are funny as. You're like the english junkyard digs. keep on keeping on.
i’ll be sure to have them back on 🤣
Came across this video amd though oh yeah il watch see how it starts off.. ended up staying for all of it, then subscribed because its was a damn good video 😊 well done.
i am glad!! keeping someone entertained for over an hour is hard !!
thankyou!
No seatbelts , no MOT and no insurance ? Driving on wrong side of the road ?
That attitude is why England has fallen.
Literally couldn't pick a more pointless thing to complain about.
This was like watching a Laurel and Hardy clip.
Just seen your post on Facebook
Just seen your post about his post on Facebook.
thanks for coming over!!!
enjoy!
What’s the facebook I’ll follow
was “cars you don’t see anymore”
a nice Little Nugget Classic car and no rust The engine Bay is not even cramped awkward Like A modern car That's How We like it😊
That van is a beast 💪
That is a very cool van. Unfortunately is not available here in the USA. 😮😢
The head has to come off to remove the cam guys. You could try removing the starter motor and pri barring the flywheel ring gear to help free the engine.
The cam comes out from the rear after taking cam sprockit off.
I’m here from cars you don’t see anymore on Fb , great upload
Epic, thankyou!
Many many years ago I found a 3 door 1.6 Sierra, super base spec, wasn't even an L, swapped it on a Mk2 escort ex rally school car which would probably be worth more these days but its the Sierra i wish i still had.
I had at least 3 Sierra company cars. 1.6L & 1.8GL C reg & a G reg . No doubt all scrap now ....😮
rarity finding this one then!
@@Joshwaa___ Some one on u-tube did a check on how many Sierras were left on the road in the UK. I can't remember the exact details but I think it was in the low 100s....
Rather than oil or wd40, next time you are working on a seized engine, try pouring evapo-rust down the bores. I've seen it get through the threads of a bolt better than penetrating oil, and since it gets rid of the rust without eating the metal, it should free up the rings without any manual effort.
wheel on pass side rear, mk3 cortina i believe, nice to see this video!
A hour and change gained, love u. Very good
Loved the video Josh you have a new subscriber will follow up on more of you vids too thanks for the upload
thanks very much!
I subscribed for the sierra content that is a sick car, can not wait to see what it looks like at the end the color is banging.
Thank you!!
Good save chaps. Not sure quite what the tom foolery dragging it around the yard achieved though
was clutch kicking it to see if we could get it to free off and get the engine to spin, that’s all. wishful thinking lol
I owned a first-generation Ford Sierra 1600GL the same as this one it was the best Ford I owned it never missed a beat
You're a brave man. Those things rotted quickly.
Had one of these many many years ago she was a fantastic car
Top video mate… good camera man as well!… next Mat Armstrong 😉
thanks sir 😎 hahaha we will see!!
Done well to pull that out with the mystery machine and some dental floss tbh 😂
Wow 1984 ford the year I was born pretty cool ford fully restored
Cracking car makes me wanna save a few pennies and grab some like minded mates and grab a something similar, my dad had an xr3i escort cabriolet on an e reg, used to go camping in it with a 6 man tent with mum, dad and my sister, tinted windows and subs in the boot, loved that car. It would make my dad smile so much if I got one, I just need somewhere to store one to work on it. Definitely worth a sub and a like from me.
My parents had a A reg Sierra 1.6GL just like this but in blue. Single headlights only during the first couple of years of production.
1:02:50 Look even the dog's got British teeth.
Hey guys if you would take that WD40 soak everything that is Rusty it will get everything loose and also lube up all your bolts and stuff just let it soak for a minute! Break Cleaner Works the Best tho you can use that stuff on everything!
Letting it soak as we speak!
@@Joshwaa___ can’t wait to see you guys to get it fire up!
Looking like a solid body shell which is a shock as all old fords rot like mad ive welded plenty of the years try putting a mix of oil down pistons and let it sit more then a hour more like a few days then might turn over as it's been sat 30 years put it back on the road as fords are going for good money i would leave it all standard if your going to sell it but was a good find guys
you’ve pretty much said my exact plans!! it was all hopes and dreams on the day for getting it going!
@@Joshwaa___ thats good to hear I hope you keep us updated on the car your a lucky guy getting a good ford Sierra that clean mate
Hello lads. Such a shame water got in the head, that engine is finished. The block might be reusable, but everything else will be rusted solid. Are you going to try score a direct replacement or go big with something like an Essex V6? Good on you all for rescuing it and putting in the graft.
gonna just get a complete longbock and chuck that in as they’re peanuts!
I agree water ingress has defo rusted/welded the rings to the bores and will need rebore+new pistons + rings as well as a crank re-grind and shells at minimum and that is just bottom end, if the engine number matches the car docs/chassis number then I would look at geting a full engine rebuild (not a job for novice) if not try and find another motor as the body seems to be in a good state, well done for getting her out although there was a couple of times I was thinking NOOOO dont do that 🤣 🤣
uk towing tips : towing in gear with a seized block can and probably will bend/snap the con rods and/or crank so try not to do that.
hazzard lights on a moving vehicle are a magnet for the blue light cash extractors😁 they are for stationary only not when being towed 😉
haha just subbed and noticed you are futher on🤣🤣
That's where I left it !
It was a pretty heavy night.
